Citations
[edit]Jytdog, I don't know if you can use this, but here is what I have at the top of my talk page for quick access: -- BullRangifer (talk) PingMe 17:18, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
Here is a basic citation template I like to use:
- Template: <ref name=" ">{{cite web | last1= | first1= | last2= | first2= | date= | title= | website= | url= | accessdate= }}</ref>
- Contents: <ref name="Harding_11/15/2017">{{cite web | last=Harding | first=Luke | title=How Trump walked into Putin's web | website=[[The Guardian]] | date=November 15, 2017 | url=http://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/nov/15/how-trump-walked-into-putins-web-luke | access-date=December 24, 2017}}</ref>[1]
- Result: Harding, Luke (November 15, 2017). "How Trump walked into Putin's web". The Guardian. Retrieved December 24, 2017.
I like to choose a unique ref name, so I use the last name(s) of the author(s) and publication date.
- See this citation tool: Yadkard
- An alternative date format is the ISO format: "Harding-20171115"

- Thanks! I will put a link to that handy Yadkard tool. Jytdog (talk) 17:53, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- I always have to add the proper wikilink to the source, and sometimes add the author name(s). Then I create the ref name. It saves a lot of time. Occasionally it gets the date wrong, so I always double check with the actual web page. -- BullRangifer (talk) PingMe 18:17, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
Jytdog/How
[edit]I just followed the link to Jytdog/How and... wow. Thanks for writing that, it's a great resource - someone ought to create a welcome template with a single link to that page. Do you mind if I stick a link to it on my user page - if only to help me find it again for future reference? GirthSummit (blether) 16:25, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
