Talk to me... Welcome!

Hello Jvmills, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  ♦ Pabix  10:08, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! Wasn't expecting a response - thanks Pabix!! Am quietly in awe of the whole Wikipedia project.. but look forward to making some (useful) contributions. Thanks Jvmills 10:17, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I admit it was a standard answer; these are, though, my own words. I encourage you to contribute. You can go to the Wikipedia:sandbox for your tests; and excuse my poor English, but I'm, unfortunately for you, a « froggie ». ♦ Pabix
Your English is better than my French - so I am a "rosbif", no? ! Jvmills 10:32, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no prejudices! ♦ Pabix  10:35, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. See the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. -- Dalbury(Talk) 12:02, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you believe that this tag doesn't belong on your page, talk to me. Silently removing warning tags can be seen as a problem. -- Dalbury(Talk) 11:57, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies if I have offended you in some way. I had created content for the areas Costa del sol and Costa Calida where I live and work, and whilst I realise that this is not a links directory, I thought that my sites are of interest to individuals looking for property in these and other areas? If they are not appropriate or not wanted then by all means remove them.
I will not remove the above warning tag - I didn't realise it was policy to not delete these. --Jvmills 09:38, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On a completely unrelated note - I've just read your talk page and noticed your Theoretical Linguistics project. I studied a joint honours English Lang and Lit BA at Newcastle University (UK). It was over 12 years ago now, but I can remember my tragic essays on semantics & pragmatics, dialectology, proto indo-european etc.. arrgh - Funnily enough I have just gently reawakened my interest in all this stuff by buying a book this last week called Balderdash and Piffle which is a great non-technical look at the etymology of many English words. Google it, I think there is a series on BBC to go with the book. --Jvmills 13:01, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just found a Wiki on Balderdash and Piffle- they are searching for the earliest known citations of common expressions/words. --Jvmills 17:40, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK. No, there isn't a policy as such (that I can think of) about not removing warnings from talk pages, but removing warnings without a comment or discussion is typical behavior of vandals. I can see that you're not a vandal, so I maybe should have spoken less harshly. We do try to keep commercial links out of Wikipedia.

Do join us in the theoretical linguistics project. It's been more than 30 years since I finished my PhD in linguistics, and I've been out of the field ever since, so it's a bit of a slog for me. -- Dalbury(Talk) 19:38, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Proptrack

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Proptrack, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Mission Fleg (talk) 07:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
