Amended from text on the Adolf Hitler talk page
Justyourkamerad, on WP we use the usual name in English for a political office, place etc. which is not necessarily the 'official name', Hence we use Taoiseach for the person running the Irish govt, but Chancellor for the similar political office in Germany, since the former is common in English, but 'Reichskanzler' isn't, especially married to the English word 'Germany'. If no 'usual name' exists, we'll often use the 'native' language name. The other edits you did I've undone since it's especially unhelpful to have one name in the infobox, but a different name in the text. The article about the political office, such as President of Germany, is where the 'native' title should always be found.
I hope having your first 9 edits reverted isn't disheartening, but it might be a good idea in future to check whether there is some policy or norm before engaging on a broad number of changes as you did. Pincrete (talk) 15:47, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Pincrete, thanks for replying. I apologize for breaking any rules during modifying the other pages. I assumed due to most other German politicians had their office title in German. Such as Schleicher being named "Reichskommissar of Prussia" in his page. So since that role is a specifically German adopted title it would keep its German name right? Justyourkamerad (talk) 23:46, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- No apologies needed. Although I don't know those other German politicians, their offices or articles, I'd also assume that no generally used/accepted title exists for "Reichskommissar of Prussia", although the article about the office doesn't use that name - so I'm not sure really, nor whether that title should be altered to its English form.
