NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Jupitus Smart,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

AFC Query

Hi, I am a university student in a Wikipedia Education class (OLES2129 at Sydney University) and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia. I choose United Nations Special Fund as my topic and accidentally submit twice. So you rejected my topic, now I almost finished the page and could I move my page to the main space now? GODHHP (talk) 00:44, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

@GODHHP: My rejection was a technical rejection and you seem to have followed the instructions correctly. However I would not suggest moving it to the mainspace yourself and would suggest waiting for a reviewer to review it and do the needful. Jupitus Smart 06:05, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Antonio Gaidon draft page deletion

Hi Jupitus Smart

My page (which I have spent years creating) has been deleted. You moved it a few days ago to draft and now another person has deleted it. Can you help retrieve it? Or tell me how to get it back? Thanks. MasisaM (talk) 07:31, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

@MasisaM: Your article was deleted by an administrator because it was copied almost word for word from here. You can continue editing on your sandbox page or even on Draft:Antonio Gaidon provided you write the article in your own words. Wikipedia is very strict about copyright, and prohibits copying from external sources. Jupitus Smart 16:34, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Gratzie

Good Citizenship
Thank you for your assistance, and for helping me to de-crappify my approach. Ddubb0044 (talk) 00:20, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you @Ddubb0044:, though all I did was to implement a usual norm. Jupitus Smart 03:29, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Questions of declined draft "Dhulipala Mahadeva Mani"

I am the creator of said draft and I have a couple of questions regarding this draft. First, could I possibly have help on which specific lines I need to reference? Second could I please have some tips on how to improve my article?

Link: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Dhulipala_Mahadeva_Mani

Thanks, --Fhurfu21 (talk) 20:34, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

@Fhurfu21:, the family section for one is entirely unreferenced. Also the references from quality publications (a list of which is provided in WP:ICTFFAQ) mention the subject only in passing and the better references are not from sources we consider reliable. Jupitus Smart 00:12, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Request on 18:34:57, 7 June 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Employedwriter

I submitted an article that has been rejected. I have made the article by comparing it to other approved pages in a similar category (Everest Spices and Mc Cormick Spices). The company is from India where internet marketing as well media coverage has picked up only in last decade. As such the independent online presence as well as media coverage of the company is limited. However, it is a major and well-recognized brand.

I would request you to reconsider your decision or allow publication with "stub" tag.

Employedwriter (talk) 18:34, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

@Employedwriter: I am aware of the notability of Badshah but am constrained by the fact that there was a lack of quality references to pass the article. I suggest expanding the article with better references so that the next reviewer may decide favourably. Also we have stopped passing stubby articles and if you feel any of the other companies do not merit an article, feel free to nominate them for deletion at WP:AFD. Jupitus Smart 16:27, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Rejection on my Wiki article

Dear Jupitus Smart,

As I see, you have rejected my wiki article as I have not done the minimum citations required. I have made the necessary changes and have resent it for submission. I request you to please take a look at it.

Draft:Thomas Abraham (Designer) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shreyavinod (talkcontribs) 11:04, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

@Shreyavinod: I do not consider these one line Page 3 news to be good enough to impart any real notability and would therefore suggest waiting for another reviewer to go through the article. Also you are supposed to reveal any conflict of interest you may have, including monetary compensation if any, for writing this article. Jupitus Smart 16:32, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Rejection on Draft:Sfera (geodesy satellite) article

Hello Jupitus Smart! You have declined Draft:Sfera (geodesy satellite), about soviet geodetic satellites, article because of a lack of Wikipedia:Reliable sources. However this article is a stub (see Category:Spacecraft stubs). And 2 reliable and published sources are present : Gunter's Space Page and Encyclopedia Astronautica. Additional sources are https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov and https://www.n2yo.com in the table. The first two are reliable and massively used in the encyclopedia (cf this link and this other link). In addition, there is 6 interlanguage links (the German and the French articles are more developed). Best regards! Artvill (main account on fr.wikipedia), Artvill (talk) 11:45, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Artvill:, No references were present on the revision that I rejected. There were only 2 links provided as external sources, and no inline citations. The article seems to have been improved subsequently, though I would still leave it for someone else to review. Best. Jupitus Smart 16:53, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Draft:Alik Ismail-Zadeh

Many thanks, Jupitus! Could you please be so kind as to tell me how to link photos from Internet to this page I am editing. Perhaps you can send me a link, where I can read about this. Thanks. Regards, Alik — Preceding unsigned comment added by ATIZade (talkcontribs) 17:36, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@ATIZade: Please visit this link. Please note that you cannot upload random pictures from the internet as Wikipedia is very specific about copyright issues. You are therefore requested to only upload images captured by you and which you do not mind uploading per Wikipedia's policy of waiving of your personal copyright on the image for a share-alike usage license (or in an extreme case you can also upload pictures that are copyright free, which you happened to find online). Jupitus Smart 15:50, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Poster

Could you upload this poster on Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:204:D18C:4B58:34B7:8130:3C68:B60D (talk) 12:05, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

I would rather wait for the official poster to release, and would not want to upload fan made posters. Jupitus Smart 15:51, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
Not fan made, it's the official poster [1] [2]. 2405:204:D007:52B6:3C94:B81:BD62:667A (talk) 07:03, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
This is just one of those placeholder poster that comes along with the film announcement. Please wait till the team releases the official poster which is expected to be soon. Jupitus Smart 14:55, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Could you crop the title part only and upload. Title is official design, won't change. 2405:204:D487:5CEE:D54F:76E6:C7DA:8997 (talk) 15:35, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
That's not how it works. Nothing is official about the poster and I personally feel its better to wait for the actual official poster which is expected soon. Jupitus Smart 17:38, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Apartamento draft

hi Jupitus Smart – thank you for moving the draft of Apartamento I'd been working on to the draft namespace and for taking the time to alert me as thoughtfully as you did :)

Tonight, I moved the draft to the article namespace, thinking the article was in a good enough place to be published. I need to clean up the citations some. Although, I assumed that I could do this once the article was "live." Do you think the assumption I made is sound? Stussll (talk) 04:21, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

I don't think that is the correct thing to do as there are a lot of articles on corporates which are paid for and its always better to have a verification mechanism to ensure there is no conflict of interest. However I would be reserving judgement, and will not be moving it back to draftspace, so as to let another new page reviewer decide. Jupitus Smart 06:09, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Question about Mamadou Diabaté article

Hello and thank you. Wanted to check if the link to the draft page should match the title "Mamadou Diabaté (percussionist)", as there's another well-known musician with the same name. Thanks, Lucas Lucasdavidjames (talk) 01:44, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the heads up. Jupitus Smart 02:17, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Jupitus Smart,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

DYK for Djamaa el Djazaïr

On 15 July 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Djamaa el Djazaïr, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the new Djamaa el Djazaïr mosque (pictured) is the tallest building in Africa? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Djamaa el Djazaïr. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Djamaa el Djazaïr), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello Jupitus Smart,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello Jupitus Smart,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 807 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Sudhi Koppa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Saul0fTarsus (talk) 10:28, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:16, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Jupitus Smart,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello Jupitus Smart,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Professor Dinkan moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Professor Dinkan, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. - The9Man (Talk) 06:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Jupitus Smart,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

I do not understand why you have stated my sources are not verifiable? There are several newspaper articles referenced, and other Wikipedia pages (for the 'Notable Members' section). If you click on the various Notable Members (with Wikipedia links) you can trace the family to see that they link back to this Lakhutia family. Please state what sort of sources/references would be accepted? There are several newspaper articles and news reports uploaded onto Youtube, etc, that have been referenced. I have provided far more reliable sources than several of your Wikipedia pages! Further, due to the various riots and genocides, the vast majority of this family's legal documents/ hard sources have actually been destroyed in fires, lootings, etc. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Hola, Guten Aben, Namaskaram, Vanakkam

This is Jupitus Smart

I need help

First of all, thanks for the suggestions in my draft page Draft:Jaadugar. I have created pages Gullak and Shivankit Singh Parihar and Sameer Saxena which has not been reviewed yet. Its been a week or more but nothing happened. As you are a new page reviewer can you please review my pages. Jogesh 69 (talk) 17:17, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

@Jogesh 69: I have moved the biographical articles to draftspace for incubation. Do not submit them for review without upgrading them. Both needs articles talking in detail about them including their roles/contributions. As for Gullak, it seems okay to me and I will be reviewing it if you were to cleanup the article by adjusting the image size and toning down the use of peacock words in the article. I would also request you to detail any possible conflict of interest you may have with TVF as per the laid down norms of the encyclopedia. Feel free to reach out in case you need any clarifications though I have to warn you that I am semi-retired now and won't always be around. Jupitus Smart 17:40, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

User:Jupitus Smart, I want to clarify that I am not related to TVF and their company in any way. I just like their content and feel that they are notable enough to be featured on Wikipedia. So I create articles mostly about The Viral Fever Jogesh 69 (talk) 17:44, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

@Jogesh 69: Creating articles about TVF shows you like is okay. But articles about TVF crew, movies they plan to release seems too great a liking. Anyway keeping editing in a non-partisan manner and you will find that Wikipedia is a good place to contribute. Jupitus Smart 17:48, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, but there is a problem in Jaadugar. It is not yet released so I can add more references but cannot add more details about it.Jogesh 69 (talk) 17:51, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

@Jogesh 69: Add whatever notable references you find and any relevant data you can include from the contents of those references. Movies under production can have an article though its not very common unless the production itself is notable which is why this was draftified by another editor. Try waiting for the movie to release after which this would probably be deemed notable, or try improving the draft and wait for a reviewer to assess if its good enough to merit a mainstream article. Hello! Your submission of Shrine of St. Paulina at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Draft: Seethalakshmi Prakash

Thank you for your review - I was expecting it to take months to get reviewed. I don't have any relationship with the subject - except from me watching her work and others like her. We live on different continents with a 10 hour time difference. I hope to edit and revise the draft and add more information and references. But I did feel one of the references cited (Times of India - is one of India's Newspapers of Record Newspaper of record), and the referenced article was exclusively about this subject.

Once again thank you for the review - I will try to do better. This is my first attempt at editing. Sankarnair2 (talk) 01:03, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

@Sankarnair2: Continue editing articles. You will find that many many more relevant articles are waiting to be made and expanded about Kerala and its people. Jupitus Smart 03:37, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Sushil Chandra Roy Chowdhury

Thank you for your message, regarding my first article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sushil_Chandra_Roy_Chowdhury. My initial draft did not have any citations, therefore it was declined. I then searched for old articles - newspapers and magazines (the news of the 1930s and 90s). Due to only having references in print, and unable to find these in any online internet archives, I made a compilation and posted the collection of different sources as a pdf in Wikipedia Commons, linking each page of pdf(having the necessary reference). My article is mostly constituded of direct lines picked up from the reference to reduce any chance of bias due to COI. Please proofread my article and see if the references are satisfying the context to make it suitable for publishing. Thank you, again.Aditya Roychowdhury - Periodic Table (talk) 05:19, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

@Aditya Roychowdhury - Periodic Table:, I sympathise with your predicament but it is strange to note that none of the references are online and all the references seem to be uploaded from your family collection. Also picking direct lines is not allowed due to copyright restrictions. My expertise in articles pertaining to Bengal is limited and I would therefore refrain from judgement. @Titodutta: would you be able to help out. Jupitus Smart 05:25, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Ranjit Sundaramurthy

Hello @Jupitus Smart: I am Pranav 311. This talk is regarding my new article Ranjit Sundaramurthy. I am not being compensated or paid to write about this subject in any way. I am writing about this subject because many teenagers and youngsters in India recognise this subject and google about the subject. Since Wikipedia is one of the most trust worthy platforms for information I want you to help me publish this article here. I am not personally connected to this subject. I haven't edited the article like you have asked me to. Please let me know what I should do next. Thank You. Pranav 311 (talk) 19:08, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

@Pranav 311: The article still doesn't seem very inspiring. Most of the references are user generated like Linkedin and Zauba. We need references that talk in depth about the subject for this to pass. Jupitus Smart 13:31, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Jupitus Smart: I have also mentioned references from reputed news channels like The Economic Times https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/company/fever-entertainment-private-limited-/U55101KA1997PTC022160 News18 https://www.news18.com/news/auto/indias-first-mclaren-720s-supercar-is-here-1506803.html and Yahoo News https://in.news.yahoo.com/meet-india-supercar-superstar-ranjit-200758087.html . Please let me know how I can improve the article. Thank you. Pranav 311 (talk) 18:23, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

@Pranav 311: The Indiatimes reference is a directory entry about the company wherein his name is not even mentioned. The News18 reference mentions his name and 2 of his cars, but is exclusively about the detailing the superior features of those cars. The Yahoo News reference is a syndicated article published from Pop Diaries which is appears to be some Page 3 news aggregator and won't be considered a reliable source. Best. Jupitus Smart 13:40, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Ennaval 2019

Hi there Jupitus Smart. Thank you for your input in making the draft for Ennaval better. I'm not paid to create the page but just a deep interest in writing and Malaysian Tamil movies. The reason i added the Youtube & Facebook link was because it directs the readers to official tv news. In Malaysia, thats where we could find the reliable source for the movie. But since it is not allowed, i've removed them accordingly as per your input. Could you please review and let me know if everything is okay? your assistance in this matter is highly appreciated.

Thank you :) 🙏 Tamilvimarsagan (talk) 03:53, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Tamilvimarsagan: We need 2 reviews from any leading publications as per WP:NFILM for this to pass. The reviews (vimarsagams) can also be in Tamil (sorry for the bad pun). The Malay Mail link is broken. The Cinema.com.my reference is a directory entry mentioning the details about the movie in a manner similar to IMDB. The Raaga link seems to be WP:COI piece with not much details and the finas link seems to be some Page 3 news mentioning some promotional event. Hope you can improve the article to meet our standards. Jupitus Smart 13:48, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Request on 15:23:08, 1 June 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Dannjay69

Hello Jupitus,

First of all, thank you for reviewing my submission. It's unfortunate you came to the conclusion it wasn't deemed important enough to be an article. I'm a bit confused by that conclusion. Lauren has a VERY wide reach on social media, has been in a movie, released music and has many fans/followers. There are various pages on Wikipedia already made of people probably less important. Please advise. I had those extra sources found on top of the numbered ones but don't know how to change them.

Dannjay69 (talk) 15:23, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Dannjay69: Adding references about her brother won't help her cause as we don't believe that notablity is inherited. The references about her are trivial mentions and does not seem to indicate that she is notable. Also a larger problem is that the information mentioned in the article is not fully sourced from the references, and we require it to be so. In case you feel that any other non deserving article made it to mainspace, please consider nominating it for deletion at WP:AFD. Jupitus Smart 15:29, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
You may also choose to re-submit it in case you perceive a systemic bias and wait for another reviewer to review the article. Jupitus Smart 15:30, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Not sure what happened but I had a whole paragraph written out. Wikipedia is very confusing. I believe she's a very notable person independent of her brother. I respectfully invite you to visit her Instagram, where she has over 4 million followers. I don't believe anyone who's not atleast somewhat notable can amass a following that large. The references mention her as she's one of the stars of the movie, "Next Level." Also, the movie and soundtrack executive producer both have pages on here, so I figured she would be relevant enough to have her own.

Dannjay69 (talk) 15:44, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Dannjay69: Wikipedia can be confusing for newbie editors. As I said include references for the unsourced parts including the entire Early Life and Career Sections and resubmit the article. In case the references added are deemed notable, your article will pass. Jupitus Smart 15:48, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

It certainly can. I had another person who sort of "adopted" me but he's not responding anymore so thanks for taking this on. I found other, better references but don't know how to delete old references and add new. I had an IMDB link that was deemed by the old editor to be not viable. I found something else but don't know how to exchange.

Dannjay69 (talk) 20:08, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Dannjay69: IMDB is user generated and is not considered reliable. Read WP:REF to know about adding references. Jupitus Smart 06:30, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello there. You removed a sentence (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1026317727). I request you to check the Mathrbhumi source. If you are a Malayalam reader, you will understand that everything I added is true facts. I think I added it in improper way. Can you fix this issue and add it back. Thank you Pillechan (പിള്ളേച്ചനോട് പറ) 15:53, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Krishnavilasom Bhageerathan Pilla:. I have added back the requested details. Please ensure that the reference is against the appropriate point in the article where it is used. The details that were removed were mentioned against the Hindu reference and was not seen in the reference which is why it was removed. Jupitus Smart 16:05, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Shrine of St. Paulina

On 5 June 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shrine of St. Paulina, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Shrine of St. Paulina (pictured) is dedicated to the first female saint from Brazil? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shrine of St. Paulina. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Shrine of St. Paulina), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:02, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi, could you please undo your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Grandiose Digital Media. The article shouldn't have been moved during an AfD (certainly not one so overwhelmingly going for a "delete"), and if you reopen the AfD, I will move it back to the mainspace to let the AfD finish correctly. Deletion of Draft:Ramdas Padhye(ventriloquist)

I was working on the article on Ramdas Padhye and was working on it under Special:MyPage/Ramdas_Padhye However the article was moved to Draft:Ramdas Padhye I was still working on the article and had placed {{subst:submit}} The article was in development stage. However it was deleted due to G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement. Also there was {{OTRS pending}} How can I continue working on the draft? The draft keeps on getting deleted. Also if the draft is kept, other users can improve the article submitted by me. Please do help as I am new to wikipedia guidelines and it is difficult to write an article for me in my own words.Indiapuppet (talk) 13:20, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Antstream Arcade - submission

Good day, Thank you for reviewing Draft:Antstream Arcade. I have made changes to make the page hopefully read less like an advertisement however before resubmitting I would like to get a second opinion. Is there a Wikipedia community that would give feedback and suggestions on how to improve the pages? Regards Ant Shrew13 (talk)

@Ant Shrew13: Re-submit the article. The review process is a community feedback exercise in itself. Jupitus Smart 16:02, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Alright, I will do. I don't want to waste anyone's time reviewing it if there are clear flaws. Ant Shrew13 (talk)
I have a friend who has offered to read through it first. Once that is done I will resubmit. Thank you Ant Shrew13 (talk)
@Ant Shrew13: Take your time and re-submit when you feel ready. Jupitus Smart 16:14, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey, how are you? I had a question that I had thought to ask before but then the time passes by and I forget. For Draft:Devayush M Chowdhary you said that directing one movie is not sufficient. It is logical and I agree with it. When I read WP:NDIRECTOR I was not able to find where it was written though. Is there a different discussion that happened over this? If yes, will be grateful if you can point me to that. I want to understand it better for future use. (I think the right thing would be to redirect to the film if the subject has directed just one film and has nothing else to their credit). Thanks for all the great work; I keep re-declining your declines and keep seeing your name here and there. Cheers! Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 12:59, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

@Nomadicghumakkad: The idea that one credit does not equal notability is a generally accepted norm. It is more clearly mentioned in WP:NACTOR and the same could be applied for directors. I do support the idea of re-directing to the page of the movie. However it is evident that this article is a paid for one, with a previous version of the article having been made by another user - User:Maxim5 (who has indicated his COI and had made Draft:Devayush Chowdhary and Adda (2019 film)) which was why I declined the newer draft. Jupitus Smart 16:00, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Hey Jupitus Smart, thanks for this explanation. My initial understanding was that Director would be part of WP:CREATIVE (which is also where it is grouped) and it says The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. and hence even one might be enough. Thanks for poiniting out the COI issue. Didn't know about that. Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 17:27, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

BookMyShow Page Deletion

Hey Jupitus Smart,

Thanks for sharing your response, this helps a lot. Please can you add on some comments through the draft regarding what are the changes suggested. This will help me to work accordingly towards the content, reference & other citations. Thanks! Shruti12111998 (talk) 08:22, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

@Shruti12111998:, It appears the draft has been deleted. I sympathise with you as I feel that Bookmyshow merits an article but given its history of promotion, only an experienced editor would be able to create an article fit for mainspace. Jupitus Smart 12:26, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Please check IP

From our discussion at WP:RFPP re Rolls-Royce Boat Tail (which I won't continue because that page needs to be archived frequently), 92.218.124.105 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) repeated their edit and blanked my warning. I blocked them for 48 hours but that will escalate if needed. Would you please check their other edits, preferably all of them but in particular at Template:Rolls-Royce vehicles and Rolls-Royce Sweptail. Johnuniq (talk) 10:00, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

@Johnuniq: I looked at their contributions and have reverted some edits which I felt were surely not made in good faith. I have left some other edits which are without supporting references as I felt that they were done in good faith. Feel free to revert them. Jupitus Smart 12:21, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Ankhain

Jupitus Smart sir, why my article Ankhain declined? I gave references of two renowned newspapers. Sanahassan88 (talk) 17:37, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

@Sanahassan88: The references are 2 line press releases. They do not impart any notability. We need more coverage. Jupitus Smart 01:56, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Jupitus Smart sir, could i provide more press releases including the poem from Ankhain Sanahassan88 (talk) 03:43, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Sanahassan88: Add whatever relevant materials you can find. Do not copy the poem verbatim from its published source due to copyright reasons. Jupitus Smart 16:14, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Jupitus Smart respected sir, i resubmitted more related references and materials to enrich this article. your guidance is required you are requested to check please. Thank you Sanahassan88 (talk) 16:20, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Sanahassan88: I believe it was understood that the poem itself cannot be used as a reference. The NHT reference does not seem to have the correct page linked as nothing related to the poem is published in the page reference. I do not believe Urdu Factory is accepted as a reliable source. Please indicate any conflict of interest you may have including whether you are being paid to write this. Jupitus Smart 16:27, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Jupitus Smart respected sir, i did not paid for this. I want to be a contributor in wikipedia. i also published another article that is declined due to only one reference that is from another writer. You are requested to help me. thank you sir. Sanahassan88 (talk) 16:30, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Sanahassan88: If you want to be a writer on Wikipedia, I suggest you leave this article and write about something else. I believe there are many other prominent places and persons from Pakistan, waiting to have an article created about them. Best. Jupitus Smart 16:33, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Khalid Nadwi: Most of the sources are from entities associated with the subject. We need sources from independent and reliable sources for this to be considered. Jupitus Smart 01:32, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

Abhilasha Will

Hello Sir, I made an article but it every time moves in to draft article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhilasha Will (talkcontribs) 00:52, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

@Abhilasha Will: Leela Owen has since been deleted because it was not deemed notable. You may recreate the draft if you can rewrite it in a neutral tone. Jupitus Smart 15:51, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Question

Does this draft have a problem? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:BitMe ItsJustdancefan (talk) 00:55, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Seems to have already been promoted. Jupitus Smart 16:06, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Regarding the Movement of Shahnaaz Khan's article

References which I provided are of Times Of India, Hindustan Times, ANI all reliable sources. Secondly if Shahnaaz Khan is moved to draft how https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chhavi_Rajawat is still there! There should be a notable issue too! Same references are given.
