Couple of doubts

Hi guys I’d like to ask some tips please. I am thinking in creating, or starting if you want, an article of biology stuffs and I am almost ready but still have some basic doubts such as:

i- I know I should use good references, etc. but in etymology section can I too use a dictionary as main source? I couldn’t find nothing better than a dictionary to explain the words I want it.

Yes, you can use a dictionary as a source because I've seen where people cite either Merriam-webster or Oxford. Regarding images, I know that usually administrators can alter images, so you can ask one of them. I hope this helps,

Images tips

I have already researched WP enough (kind of) to know that images would be better when used as thumbed size, though not necessarily; and that users can set the image’s dimension in their personal preferences. So, I want use images, however still I’d like to manually size them bigger than thumbs (because most are wider horizontally and they don’t fit well as thumb in a regular display). How can I do that (sizing images) without having so much risk of another editor move them to thumb? I mean, which is the right format? For instance how I edit to keep an image with 350px and none mess it later? By the way I already saw a lot of articles (and featured ones) with many images larger than thumb. So, what is the catch? If you want to size an image so that it is 350px, you can use the "|300px|" parameter. However, do note that Manual of Style for images specifies that images should generally be left to the default size unless the default size makes important details difficult to read, etc. If this is the case, you can feel free to add that parameter. Otherwise, you should leave the default. There is no real way to stop other editors from changing the image size without protecting the article itself, and chances are that that is not entirely necessary. – GorillaWarfare (talk) 04:54, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you GorillaWarfare, I have appreciated your help and I will follow your instruction. Anyway I’d like to say that I am aware of the Manual of Style for images, but I see a huge gap there. The current default (thumb) size works well for vertical/square images, however for images with width 2/3 (horizontally) larger than the height, most of images are wrecked. One solution, as you said, it is to use the manual sizing (and blocking the article if necessary, but who grant that? administrators?). Another one, if may I humbly suggest it, it is what exactly was implied here: should exist two kinds of default size: the vertical one (like the existent until now) and the new horizontal "thumb" (may be we should call it toe size) with something as 300px of width (therefore with a height, at least 1/3, lesser than width). You veteran guys could start a discussion to implement (or not) such change. What do you think? If you do that, please let me know, and since now my vote it is yes to the thumb and toe as default sizes. JuneEleven (talk) 19:52, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
