Edit summary and preview

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In the future, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. -- MightyWarrior (talk) 16:34, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply re. Cotuit, Massachusetts

[edit]

Thanks for your message about the Cotuit, Massachusetts article. There is no such thing as a "guiding editor". We are all here to help each other – Wikipedia works by forming consensus within the editing community. Editors are allowed to be bold and make changes that they believe are right (as changes can always be re-modified or put back). Note that no edits are the 'property' of a particular editor, so changes can be made by anyone, anywhere. However edit warring (where an edit is continually reverted to-and-fro) is not a good thing. So if you have any issues about changes or recommendations that someone else has made, the best way to resolve them positively is to discuss them with the editor in question, which usually means or their talk page or on the discussion page for the article itself (as you have done). It may be worth dropping user Nakon a note to say that you've responded to his comments. For information, if at any point you feel you can't reach an agreement, then there are various more formal ways of resolving things (see dispute resolution or third opinion). Two of the overriding Wikipedia policies in all this are to assume good faith and civility. I hope this helps, please get back to me if I can be of any further assistance. -- MightyWarrior (talk) 09:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:CotuitBaySpring2008.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:CotuitBaySpring2008.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
