Head coaches lists
@Jrcla2 and Rikster2: Hey, guys. It's long overdue that someone creates a List of Florida Gators men's basketball head coaches. Can you provide three or four examples of college basketball coach lists that you believe are well done and among the better examples out there? Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 05:33, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Dirtlawyer1: I would say List of North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball head coaches is the standard to use among the existing college basketball head coach lists. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:59, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
- List of Oklahoma Sooners head basketball coaches is aso a good one. But feel free to browse Category:Lists of college basketball head coaches in the United States Rikster2 (talk) 23:38, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Lewisthejayhawk and Orangetycoon41
Jrcla2, happy new year. I think User:Orangetycoon41 could be a sockpuppet of User:Lewisthejayhawk. Thoughts? Jweiss11 (talk) 06:31, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Jweiss11: There certainly seems to be enough supporting evidence to think that. If so, wouldn't he be technically a sockpuppet of User:Dereks1x? Jrcla2 (talk) 15:15, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
2000/1000
Got our first 2000/1000 guy of the season - Shawn Long of Louisiana-Lafayette scored his 2000th point this past weekend. He had 1000 rebounds as of last year. Rikster2 (talk) 11:15, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Wow good catch. So early into the season, too. Most guys don't get that achievement until close to the end of their senior season. Jrcla2 (talk) 20:56, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Jameel Warney may also hit this in his next game. He's 15 points shy and already has 1000 boards. Rikster2 (talk) 21:14, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- Added today. Jrcla2 (talk) 17:06, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Erv Staggs
You really think he's the same as the NC A&T coach? He would've been a player on that team. More likely a junior/senior deal in my opinion. Rikster2 (talk) 15:32, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- I don't know if he is, I couldn't find a definitive source one way or the other, but the media guide lists "James Staggs" as the team's leading scorer in 1967–68, the same season that the NC A&T coach navbox had James Staggs as head coach. Can you find a source? Jrcla2 (talk) 16:25, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- What's the source that says Staggs coached there? It is a 1-year tenure between two of Cal Irvin's - this source says Staggs played for Irvin. When I search coaches with the name Staggs in the NCAA database, nothing comes up. Could it be the navbox is a mistake? Rikster2 (talk) 16:37, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- This source shows James Staggs as the coach in 1967–68, but this shows he was their head coach for 18 years, which would include the 67/68 season. This also shows an 18-year head coaching career. Maybe the ESPN College Basketball Enyclopedia is wrong, since every other source indicates that Irvin was the coach that year? Jrcla2 (talk) 18:39, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- I think ESPN is wrong. Notice for most years they list leading scorer as well as coach. I think for this entry they used the wrong name. Rikster2 (talk) 19:01, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think you're right. I've definitely found misinformation in that book before, and it doesn't make sense to think that Staggs would be a player-coach. I'll adjust the article and navbox accordingly. Jrcla2 (talk) 19:25, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- For the record, ESPN absolutely sucks from a research perspective. Just today they had a tweet extolling Kay Felder's PPG while leading the country in assists. They credit "Jason Jordan" of Davidson in 2006-07 as having the highest PPG while leading the country in assists. They of course meant Jared Jordan of Marist, while Jason Richards of Davidson led the country the next year. Rikster2 (talk) 21:57, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- DraftExpress isn't much better as far as basic player info is concerned. I primarily use that website for the high schools, which are normally reliable, but beyond that it's a waste. Jrcla2 (talk) 01:01, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

CAA tourney
Hey - are you going to the CAA tourney? I have business in Baltimore Monday and may go to the final if W&M makes it - won't pass up possibly seeing history. If you are going let me know, we should catch up. Rikster2 (talk) 02:13, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

NBL articles
Hey - Thanks for creating these by the score! I have one request - as you create them, can you add their deaths to the relevant year in basketball article (eg - 2016 in basketball). A user went through and created a ton of these but didn't populate them fully. I add deaths as I can, but it's helpful if as the creator you can add it at the time just as you would for a high school alumni list or adding onto a list of surnames. Thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 14:28, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
- Ok sure, I'll keep that in mind going forward. For whatever reason I got the itch to knock out all of the Pittsburgh Raiders players since the team only existed for one season. It's now fully populated (still needs a parent article though). It was kind of fun discovering the head coach for the Raiders in the process, Joe Urso. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:34, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Help stubbing out bio articles to preserve navboxes
Jrcla2, how's it going? Corkythehornetfan is in the process of identifying NCAA Division I coach and athletic director navboxes that have few blue links and are therefore potential candidates for deletion. He's compiling a list here. Given your focus on college basketball, I thought perhaps you would be able to attack the basketball coach navboxes on the list and see about creating new articles such that each navbox has at least four blue links. I plan to tackle any athletic director or football coach navboxes that appear on the list. Let me know if are able to chip in here. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 01:11, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ok I'll try to knock out a couple. Jrcla2 (talk) 01:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Template:2016_Villanova_Wildcats_men%27s_basketball_navbox
Hi,
I saw your deletion of the Villanova bench players. I believe that WP:NNC or WP:NOTEWORTHY governs - notability does not apply within article content. Otherwise, the list should be called something like "2016 Villanova Wildcats who played in the title game," or "Partial list of 2016 Villanova Wildcats." Not even all those who played in the final are necessarily notable beyond what might be relatively short time.
For many other teams, players who barely played are included on their team lists.
Let me know what you think.
Regards, Ira Ira Leviton (talk) 20:32, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Notability is not temporary. If they are notable now, they're presumed notable forever. And a lot of players on other teams become notable for non-playing reasons, but still warrant articles. Literally every single college basketball, college football, and college baseball championship navbox only contains players who pass WP:GNG, even if those players are notable for reasons entirely unrelated to the sport itself. Those championship navboxes are not supposed to be banner-hangers and memorials to every player and coach who happened to be on the roster (that's what the season articles are for); they are supposed to include only links that help navigate between articles. Sometimes, as in the Villanova navbox, certain notable players do not yet have articles, hence the red links. But no, not every player or coach deserves to be on them. SEAOFBLUE
Isn't there a clause with SEAOFBLUE regarding tables? I swear there have been discussions regarding OVERLINKING and SEAOFBLUE in terms of tables and how they are an exception. Would you consider doing the same to All-NBA Team (too many entries I'm guessing is a reason why not)? Why so set on implementing SEAOFBLUE on All D-League Team? I personally don't see the big deal in having them all linked, looks patchy to me with black and blue scattered. In saying that, I will NOT add them again :-) DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:01, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
- I would definitely consider doing the same to All-NBA Team. By keeping players and teams linked only the first time they appear, it is cleaner and less arduous to sort through who's been selected before. Plus, keeping duplicate entries unlinked saves kilobyte space on the article, helping it to load faster. Jrcla2 (talk) 15:47, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Jrcla2, I have a name change in for Category:Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles football and its subcategories. Since you created this category, I thought you may want to chime in here. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 03:05, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I just supported it. All that I ask is you add clarifying descriptions to each of those categories explaining why they're called the Diablos, so that nobody in the future erroneously tries to name them the Golden Eagles again. Jrcla2 (talk) 03:09, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for commenting. The clarifying descriptions sound reasonable. I also added Cal State Los Angeles to List of college nickname changes in the United States. Jweiss11 (talk) 05:35, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Conference POY article?
Hey - I am making a push to finish last year's CPOY articles (at least as stubs) and wondered if you might be willing to create Juan'ya Green, the 2016 CAA POY? I know you have slowed down your article creations, but frankly so have I. There are 7 CPOYs left so I figured if I could farm out a couple I could finish them off. Years moving around in infobox
The IPs are not doing it on purpose, it is a glitch with using visual editor to edit infobox information. Rikster2 (talk) 14:25, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- Oh, interesting. Thanks for explanation on that. Jrcla2 (talk) 16:07, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi! Looks like something is missing from the 1986/1987 season. Kevin Houston has scored 953 total points, but if you multiply 311 by 2 and add 268, the result would be 890, not 953. I don't really get why the website doesn't have the statistics on 3-point field goals, although it's available starting from 1987 (not 1988 as it claims). Taking this into account, we shouldn't consider the website an ideal source, and honestly I think the authors could have made a mistake in 1944/1945 season in Mikan's points. 2016–17 South Alabama Jaguars basketball team move
Hey, I saw where you moved the title for the current South Alabama Jaguars men's basketball team season to a title without men's in it. According to the team's website and the South Alabama Jaguars page, the women's team no longer uses the Lady Jaguars name so there needs to be a distinction between the men's and women's team now. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.IncredibleSE (talk) 01:56, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- I think if the articles should have "men's" and "women's" in them, the corresponding categories should be renamed. My opinion is that until the categories are renamed, the articles should match them. Jrcla2 (talk) 02:07, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Sockpuppet Investigations
Do you have any experience with Sockpuppet investigations? I suspect I'm dealing with one, but am hoping that someone more neutral can take a look before I request a formal investigation. Would you be willing, or have an idea of someone I can discuss it with? Billcasey905 (talk) 14:31, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- I have some experience with them. A couple years ago there was a prolific sockpuppeter who disrupted all college sports' WikiProjects. Check out his long SPI archive. When opening an SPI, you must provide strong evidence to support your claim that what the user is doing is problematic in some way, and also provide as many appropriate diffs as possible to support it. Jake Pelkington/Bob Pelkington
I think you created the Jake article. I am almost positive that they are father and son, but can't find a source that definitively states it. When I search newspapers.com I see some paywall articles that seem to confirm it, but nothing freely available. If you get a few moments, do you mind seeing what you can find, or do you know anyone who has premium newspapers.com access? Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 17:26, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can find, unfortunately I don't know anybody with paid newspapers.com access. I know Cbl62 has always been good and old and obscure references though. Jrcla2 (talk) 18:53, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Rikster2: I found the confirmation, but it requires two separate sources (when combined, they are the smoking gun).
- Part 1: Bob's obituary says "Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Pelkington." Since Jake Pelkington's real first name was John, that's a good start. Still not conclusive by itself though. You'll notice in the obit that Bob Pelkington was also preceded in death by his brother, John "Jay" Pelkington.
- Part 2: John "Jay" Pelkington's obituary says "He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Jr. and Elsie Pelkington." The middle initial "F" makes it official, as Jake Pelkington's middle name was Francis.
- Jake is definitely the father of Bob. Jrcla2 (talk) 16:09, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Luke Kennard
So, I know you don't have a ton of time for articles, but I didn't know if you would be willing to create an article for Luke Kennard of Duke. He's probably the front-runner for ACC POY (with Justin Jackson) and will certainly be an All-American. There is also a picture from the McDonald's All-American game. I started to do it but at the end of the day couldn't bring myself to write it. Food for thought. Rikster2 (talk) 23:33, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- I'll consider it, but you're right in that I don't have multiple hours at a pop to research and write a start-class article. I made an exception for Marcus Keene because I was between classes, but I'm in a really tough Econ course right now that will probably consume my life until it's over. War Eagle in Auburn men's basketball template
You recently removed War Eagle from the Culture & lore section of the Auburn Tigers men's basketball template, citing that it is "used primarily for the football team." I don't think this is true. War Eagle as both a phrase and a fight song are used across all Auburn athletics, hence why I included it. There is plenty of footage out there of the fans shouting it at tipoff or of coaches and players using the phrase if it needs to be cited. AuburnShuffle (talk) 21:37, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- If you feel strongly about that I am not going to fight it. But I hate it when links are added to navboxes and then those navboxes aren't even added to the article itself. As a principle, all navboxes are supposed to be insular and not take the reader away from accessible-related articles. Jrcla2 (talk) 21:50, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- That's a fair point, I should have added the template to the War Eagle article. I'm thinking that maybe the War Eagle mascot should be a separate article from the War Eagle phrase/fight song, but that would be a fairly big undertaking. I'll leave things as is for now. AuburnShuffle (talk) 21:56, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- A split could be used, if the material is strong enough for both. Jrcla2 (talk) 23:36, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
Lafayette Lever
Hi Jrcla2. Please forgive me if I'm putting this in the wrong spot. Although I've been editing Wiki pages for around six years I still can't figure out how to contact editors. I understand your logic behind reverting Mr Lever's page. As a seasoned NBA viewer and historian, I can assure you that Mr. Lever himself prefers his birth name over his unflattering nickname. When he was playing in the 1980's he was always refereed to as Lafayette 'fat' Lever, never just 'Fat' Lever. It is bad form to disregard someone's true name because a few actors have spread a non-accurate moniker. Hopefully Wikipedia is above such low brow attempts at humor. Thanks! The rakish fellow
- See Talk:Fat Lever. The consensus and common name is "Fat". Jrcla2 (talk) 15:22, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
