Ithaca Bakery and Collegetown Bagels Our group is proposing the idea of creating a Wikipedia page for Ithaca Bakery Company. This includes both “Ithaca Bakery” and “Collegetown Bagels”. Currently, there is a Wikipage for Ithaca, NY which mentions Ithaca Bakery, but no page for the actual company. Given the success of the company and history and presence it has in the Ithaca community, we feel that this would be a beneficial addition to the Wikipedia pages. Additionally, there will be a wide variety of sources available since local newspapers, University articles, personal interviews, and historical sources that exist and are obtainable.

Suggestions from a random passerby

[edit]

Happened to see your Ithaca Bakery and Collegetown Bagels article and followed the thread of discussions to find myself here. Allow me (as a veteran Wikipedia editor, but as a complete outsider as far as Ithaca goes) to pass on some advice.

  • Don't include the menu, in any form, other than a brief general mention of the types of food the place carries. Wikipedia is not a directory, and individual restaurant menus have no place here.
  • Do look for sources beyond the company's own website and the Cornell Sun. Such coverage fails to indicate the required significant coverage required by Wikipedia's notability standards.
  • Don't include the company's social media links. The company has an official website, which is an appropriate external link. But if the company wants customers to follow its social media doings, it can urge them to do so itself on its own webpage. Adding such links to Wikipedia, unless they provide unique, non-promotional insight into the company that can't be included at Wikipedia, is inappropriate.

I agree with WikiDan that menus are rarely encyclopedic. Unless reliable sources discuss it, drop it. Overall, I agree with all that Dan said. There is not enough content out there currently for me to provide more information; certainly try to acquire some images for the article, as well as a GPS coordinate (see Template:Coord). For this article, you should also learn how to use an WP:INFOBOX. Take a look at high quality restaurant articles for ideas, Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink has a listing and is a good place to ask for help. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 18:11, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
