Moving pages

[edit]

Hi Jorge, I guess you are new, so I can't be mad at you. When making the disambiguation for National Institute of Statistics and Census, you created a new page named National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina and copied there the contents of the other article. This is bad practice, becase all the history of the previous article is lost. Instead, use the 'move' option (between history and watch) to move the article together with its talk page and history. At the same time, when you do such a move that creates ambiguities, you should try to correct the articles that pointed to (now incorrect) Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos, to the proper new article of National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina (and they are a lot). That's pretty much it. Take care, and good wiking. Mariano(t/c) 07:38, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do not "copy and paste" to "move" a page; that looses article history. See Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page. Hope this helps, -- Infrogmation 15:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article on "University of Costa Rica"

[edit]

Hi, Jorge!

I have been making some corrections to the article about the University of Costa Rica (added and updated links, made some style and spelling corrections).

Even though, I am not sure about the major academic areas, according to the article. For example, is "Architecture" considered a completely separated category, or can it be sorted under "Engineering"?

In my opinion, the number of students in an academic area within the University, as well as other factors (relevance of the study field, for instance) may determine it to be "major". I left the categorization as it was, but still wonder about the appropiate taxonomy.

According to the Course Guide, there are six major fields: Agricultural Sciences, Arts and Letters, Basic Sciences, Engineering, Health and Social Sciences.

2010 in Aviation

[edit]

Jorge, why don't you add the info? I may be a main contributor to the article, but that doesn't mean I WP:OWN it! Anyone is free to make constructive additions to an article. I had seen a ticker on Sky News about a crash of an aircraft involved with the relief efforts for the recent earthquake in Chile, but nothing yet on JACDEC / ASN / Pprune / BBC, which is why I hadn't added the accident. Mjroots (talk) 07:42, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, wrong incident. Unfortunately, most crashes involving General Aviation are non-notable, as there are so many of them. The incident I referred to above also involved a GA aircraft (Sky news). Might be worth a mention in the earthquake article but not in the 2010 in aviation article. Mjroots (talk) 07:50, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Carmen District, San José Canton

[edit]

Hello Jorge, thank you for contributing the useful article Carmen District, San José Canton.

I am struggling a little bit to understand your statement, "the district suffers from the uninhabited peculiarity that features the entire downtown". My problem is with the strange phrase "uninhabited peculiarity".

Are you saying that there are no residential areas anywhere in downtown San José? No one lives in the central city area? The phrase is not clear and I wonder if that is what you mean. If it is true, if no-one lives downtown, it is very strange, I agree. I will ask a Tica friend of mine about it later.

It would be good if you used different words to explain what you mean so it is clearer, and if you can give a citation or reference to show that downtown is unpopulated, that would help a lot.

You write also, "El Carmen District lies in the north of the canton, limiting (clockwise) with Goicoechea Canton and Montes de Oca Canton" and "The district also limits with other districts...". The word "limiting" is unusual: do you mean "bordering"? I have a feeling you should say "bordering" and "borders with" or "beside".

You wrote, "This district comprehend several "barrios" or neighbourhoods". I will change "comprehend" to "comprises".

Thanks, Jorge.

--O'Dea (talk) 15:09, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jorge, I changed the article in a few places but I noticed that you say that the district has 4,004 inhabitants, so there are plenty of people living there: it is not uninhabited. Please change the "uninhabited peculiarity" so the meaning is clearer. Do you mean there is a surprisingly low population density, or something like that? Pura vida, Jorge.

--O'Dea (talk) 15:21, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Odea. Thanks for the advise, I will check those changes in a while. What happened to San José Downtown is that the city core is totally uninhabited, nobody sleeps there and it is used exclusively for office buildings. It's a strange peculiarity (and a terrible planning mistake). You can read about this fact in Costa Rica Tourism Board website:
http://www.visitcostarica.com/ict/paginas/caminatas.asp?ididioma=2
About the "limit" thing, yes, my meaning is "border", so we can use this term too. So, you seem to be interested in C.R. huh? I miss my country very much, 3 years living abroad, and this is just a way to remember it and to do my bit to try to help it". Cheers. --JorgeRodriguez (talk) 15:54, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hola, Jorge. I made a few simple changes to help some sentences work better. I think it is a bit clearer now. Thank you for your reply. Yes, I like Costa Rica and want to visit again to see my friends. --O'Dea (talk) 08:54, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, List of Sany products

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, List of Sany products. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Sany Group. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Sany Group - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 11:30, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

5 Colones

[edit]

--JorgeRodriguez (talk) 14:39, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aircraft

[edit]

Hi there. Congratulations on all your hard work on List of the busiest airports in Japan and many others! Given that you are active in this area I hope you do not mind my pointing out that the usual plural of "aircraft" is also "aircraft" - that is, it does not change, so "aircrafts" is wrong as I understand it. Sort of like "sheep", but they fly better. I hope this helps. With all good wishes, DBaK (talk) 17:24, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:38, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jorge! Writing in English as I see you are more active here, just to let you know that I've continued your amazing work with the Costa Rica districts in Wikipedia Español, I have added basic information articles for all the remaining districts missing and now we have full coverage. Check it out here: es:Distritos de Costa Rica#Listas de Distritos, the lists are now full of blue links, except for Monteverde, or well maybe some more if the bibliotecarios start to delete articles as they like to do so often over there. --Roqz (talk) 21:31, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Districts of San José (canton) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Dear Jorge Rodriguez, although I do not oppose to your move the former name is better and I present three arguments for clarification:
1) On June 16, 1998 Federal Law 9.661 https://web.archive.org/web/20111008010441/http://www.leidireto.com.br/lei-9661.html (mentioned in the introdutory notes of the article) changed the name of the facility from Aeroporto Internacional 2 de Julho to Aeroporto Internacional de Salvador - Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães. This Federal Law, approved by the Congress and sanctioned by the President, is still in force and therefore the latter remains the official name. As such, this is the name used by entities such as the Civil Aviation National Agency. All the mentioned media do not take precedence to a Federal Law.
2) Vinci, the concessionary that manages the airport, may use a Trade Name and has chosen to do so as Salvador Bahia Airport. It must be said that internally in Brazil, when one mentions Salvador it is obvious that one is referring to the capital of the State of Bahia, which has as full name São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos. The name Salvador da Bahia is used in the domain of foreign languages to differentiate from San Salvador, capital of El Salvador. Vinci is therefore stressing a foreign rather than a local perspective. Salvador International Airport was perfect, targetting Brazillian and foreign perspectives.
3) The population of Salvador dislike the name celebrating a deceased polititian and there have been some attempts to revert the name of the airport to its former name. The use of a Trade Name seems to be a conciliatory solution. Brunoptsem (talk) 13:01, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
