If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Non-rotating skyhook requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://skyhooksandspaceelevators.wordpress.com/tag/space-elevator/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. /wiae /tlk 00:41, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jonah and the Whale, looks like I got mixed up there; the text now at Non-rotating skyhook looks to have originated from an old revision of the Wikipedia article at Space exploration technologies. You can ignore the CSD notice above, but if you do copy text from one Wikipedia article to another, make sure to note it in the edit summary with a wikilink to the article in question. Again, apologies and welcome to Wikipedia. /wiae /tlk 00:52, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Wiae. Yes, being new here there is much I don't know. To start, I hope this is the right place to reply to your message and the 4 dot symbol I copied at the beginning of this note was the correct thing to do. Yes, I copied the non-rotating skyhook text from an old version of a Wikipedia article and then did a little editing to it. I was looking to create an article with more information on the non-rotating skyhook concept to support the article Combination launch systems which mentions non-rotating skyhooks. There were already good articles on ground assisted launch, air assisted launch, reusable launch vehicles, ramjets and scramjets, but not on non-rotating skyhooks. In any case, my apologies for any difficulties I may have caused. In the future, if I do cut and paste any text from other articles into another article I will note it in the edit summary as you mentioned. Thank you for your assistance. @Jonah and the Whale: This is a fine place to reply. If you want to ping a user so they get a notification that you've mentioned them, you can use the {{ping}} or {{re}} template along with the editor's username, as I've done in this message. The colons allow for indenting; see Wikipedia:Indentation for an example of how to use them. (My message here started with three colons, so it will be more indented than yours.) Wikipedia is a large place with lots of rules and policies (and a penchant for strange acronyms that take some getting used to!), so do let me know if I can help. I will also leave you a message at the top of this page with some helpful policy links that you can explore at your leisure. Thanks, /wiae /tlk 12:47, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merging articles

[edit]

Greetings Jonah! I noticed that your new article on non-rotating skyhooks significantly overlaps the existing Skyhook (structure) article, so I suggested a merge. Kind regards, — JFG talk 08:09, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted it, as there is no content to merge, it is all either lifted from the current or early version or copied off that wordpress site. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:57, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Combination launch system for deletion

[edit]

Greetings Jonah and the Whale! You may have noticed that I removed two large sections of text in the Skyhook article. While this was interesting information, Wikipedia is very strict about copyright, and we can't simply copy verbatim from outside sites. Instead, reliable sources should be summarized in our own words. See the site copyright policy and WP:COPYVIO for more details. Kind regards, — JFG talk 10:18, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

JFK. The source material for the edit was from an old article called Space exploration technologies. That article predates the wordpress article you referenced.Jonah and the Whale (talk) 18:00, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This looks more complex than I thought. I have opened a dedicated thread at Talk:Skyhook (structure)#Sourcing of the skyhook details. Let's discuss there. — JFG talk 04:26, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
