Thank you for the barnstar
Thank you for the barnstar. It is nice to know somebody recognizes one's work. I was going to make a dumb joke that if you wrote better articles, I wouldn't be editing them... Then I looked at your userpage and website. Dang. The barnstar is a real honor from somebody of your Wikipedia caliber and your professional acclaim. Thank you. Redirects
You seem to have a better grasp on some of the terminology, do these redirects seem odd, or even needed? I was looking at the new article list on the LGBT project page and saw them. Insomesia (talk) 22:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Autogynephilic narratives
- Narratives of autogynephilic transsexuality
- Narratives of autogynephilic transsexualism
- Autogynephilic narrative
- Men trapped in men's bodies
- Hi there-- Redirects are cheap, as they say. I don't see any problems with those. It's a very obscure terminology which appeals to some people who used to be called "pseudotranssexuals" or "non-transsexuals" but who identify as transsexual. No one will ever search those terms, but there are very few redirects I would ever delete. Jokestress (talk) 23:32, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Northwest Africa 7034
On 11 January 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Northwest Africa 7034, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Northwest Africa 7034 (pictured) is a type of Martian meteorite never before seen, and has more water in it than any other yet discovered? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Northwest Africa 7034. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. It looks like you may speak Russian? Can you look into this and see if you can assay the sources provided for [[1]], on the article Shimun Vrochek. I myself do not and could use the help, if you find that this person is notable you can link this to the AFD discussion and close it by withdrawing the nom. David Wynn Miller
Hello Jokestress...
I don't see why you would remove from the article about Miller the fact that he alleges he died in 1975. It is a significant part of his life, his purported abilities, and his accomplishments. So it seems to me it belongs there. At any rate, the reference is found in one of the youtube videos from his Quantum Grammar seminar.
At about 3 minutes and 30 seconds into the video he says he was dead for 35 minutes. Here is the link.

Regarding your removal of the "Controversy" section in the fark page.
Greetings, Jokestress.
You recently removed an entire section from this page: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Fark
You were nice enough to send me the following comment when you made the edit:
"Hello, I'm Jokestress. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Fark because it didn't appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Jokestress (talk) 09:41, 13 January 2013 (UTC)"
I have chosen to contact you as you requested. As you may know, Fark.com has been hemorrhaging people since about 2007. As a fark member since early 2001 I can say I have seen its influence grow and wane over the years. It is my opinion that the reason for fark's declining influence is the dissatisfaction felt by the members over the growing epidemic of "shadowbanning" where people are effectively removed from the site without evidence, notification, or any way of even telling that you've been removed except clearing your cookies.
You mention that the "controversy" didn't "appear constructive" and yet I truly believe that it is. It is factual, up to date, and I did not include any personal opinions in it like I have in this posting. (Specifically, my claim in the above paragraph that Fark's shadowbanning policy is likely the reason for their declining relevance.)
I intend to reinstate the section but I will allow you a few hours to do so on your own. Nice to meet you,

Hi Jokestress. Thanks for posting your explanation about the offsite picture incident. Though it doesn't make your actions right, they now seem far less monstrous then the NYT made the out to be. Would you prefer this whole mess go to Arbcom? If so I would be inclined to drop my !vote. - I've kibbitzed a little about this dispute (it offers a far more serious opportunity to apply principles of separation of Wiki from extraneous activities that I had proposed in the Fae case). I should note that to me, as an outsider, your evidence about Bailey seems mystifying - it is not clear why you spend so much time in your presentation describing the foibles of a third party. Even if all of sexology can somehow be partitioned as pro-Bailey and anti-Bailey, even so, I'm not sure it's all that relevant. (If this were an arbitration between a liberal and a conservative, would the budget deficit be admissible?) If there is a strong direct relationship between Cantor and Bailey in some kind of on-wiki editing then you should make that clear; otherwise, it might be better to swap in more relevant data about your and Cantor's relationship instead. I should note in particular that the "fucksaw" thing is amusing but not persuasive to me - as one would not expect a medical course in gross anatomy to proceed without an autopsy, it seems like Bailey was taking what I would call a "forsane" position (i.e. more sane than most people) and suffered for it.
- It is of course entirely possible that I've missed your point and I shouldn't have, but I just wanted to give you feedback. I am sympathetic to some of your position about overmedicalization of behavioral diversity [2] though I view purveyors of transgender surgeries with equal suspicion. The most ironic thing about that citation is that I take it that both you and Cantor would agree, generally, that pedophilia is not a strictly isolated phenomenon of people attracted to prepubescents but has a long tail of people who are affected to a lesser degree, which to my intuition seems like an important step in the right direction. To me, it seems like the problem of pedophilia will be over with when you look up porn on the Internet and find lots of pictures of sexy 40- and 50-year-olds mixed in the natural ratio of the population; it seems bound up with the question of why adults' preferences are being driven in age-inappropriate but legal directions. Unfortunately, that source makes it sound like small differences in how the disease in defined are a sectarian battle in which small differences in religious doctrine can translate to people being locked up for life rather than freed for the exact same actions - but innately, properly, the decision of what to believe in ought to be made as freely as when people (in modern times) decide between Homoousian and Homoiousian. I would like Wikipedia to be a zone of "psychiatric religious freedom" in which all faiths can express themselves without having to fight each other over who is right. Wnt (talk) 18:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. It became clear from the request section that some people were going to start making up their minds before they saw all the evidence. The background material I have up for now is simply a placeholder to give context about the off-wiki disputes. My material about on-wiki conduct will contextualize that information. You'll note that most folks who come unhinged in response to this are academics, have science backgrounds, hold rigid medicalized worldviews, or some combination of the three. This dispute challenges the belief systems of some people, so they have very strong emotional responses. That upsets them too, because they consider themselves rational, objective people. The cognitive dissonance is not something they usually feel when considering "science." Add sex and consent to the emotional mix and kablooey! Gaskets are blown. More soon, and thanks again for the comment! Jokestress (talk) 19:44, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, be careful not to overgeneralize. My background is academic and scientific (but "real biology" :), and to me, psychiatry doesn't seem scientific enough. To continue with the previous example, I see no evidence in a search that anyone has ever taken pedophiles out to Nevada and let them pick out a sex worker, seeing how far they can get while periodically looking at fMRI and compared it to non-pedophiles with special attention to the regions reported to be lesioned in some individual pedophiles examined. I don't see evidence anyone has tried testing with pheromones, which to me seem of primary importance in altering and updating sexual perceptions. It ever galls me that our whole society is half nuts with fear over this condition, using it as an excuse to undermine basic axioms of freedom of communications, and we don't try the most obvious first-pass ideas to try to cure it; but I imagine we don't even know the full extent of the fallout, for example on age discrimination and on elderly couples who stop feeling attracted to one another. Anyway, I realize I'm off topic here, but when it comes to your case, I hope everyone will be able to focus tightly on the on-wiki interaction, which reflects not only your differences of opinion but also some inept Wikipedia policies I would like to fix. Wnt (talk) 21:25, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Bailey, Blanchard et al in academics
Hi, you are surely busy but I had an idea that may help. To me one of the core issues is the self-promotional nature of Bailey, Blanchard and crew. Someone else countered how many academic sites as evidence the subject(s) were not fringe. I wonder if examining how many of those cites are self-referencing vs. how many dispute their findings might be informative? I know it's complex but every time I look into this I notice how it seems like a walled garden is being nurtured along. Hope all goes well and keep up the good work! Insomesia (talk) 20:35, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah. That's what led to the creation of this diagram. The source from which this all pours forth is this CAMH nexus. They are constantly logrolling for each other, citing each other, and self-citing. The self-citing has leaked onto Wikipedia via Cantor. Jokestress (talk) 20:49, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- That's what I see. If the diagram or a version to demonstrate all of that isn't already included I encourage it's use. To me this is the core of Cantor's activities. Insomesia (talk) 05:57, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

BBC R4 Programme on Transgenderism
Hi Andrea, you're probably already aware, but Analysis, a BBC Radio 4 programme, made an interesting episode recently on trangenderism and feminism. The context is quite specific to the UK. I stumbled across it today and thought it might interest you.
Who Decides if I'm a Woman A spat between feminist Suzanne Moore and transgender rights activists played out on social networking sites, and then hit the headlines when journalist Julie Burchill joined in too.
Jo Fidgen explores the underlying ideas which cause so much tension between radical feminists and transgender campaigners, and discovers why recent changes in the law and advances in science are fuelling debate.
Contributors: James Barrett, consultant psychiatrist and lead clinician at the Charing Cross National Gender Identity Clinic; Julie Bindel, feminist and journalist; Lord Alex Carlile QC, Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords; Melissa Hines, professor of psychology at Cambridge University; Richard O'Brien, writer of the Rocky Horror Show; Ruth Pearce, postgraduate researcher in sociology at the University of Warwick; Stephen Whittle OBE, professor of equalities law at Manchester Metropolitan University.
It's likely you're more tech savy than I, but here's a primer in using a proxy to access the BBC iplayer from outside the UK: [3]. FiachraByrne (talk) 10:50, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks-- that's quite a motley crew! Always interesting that the majority of animus is directed at trans women (hence their title). That re-ignition of the radfem debate from 1979 is not something I am going to wade into again, but I'll take a look. Jokestress (talk) 10:59, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Sonata
Please spare us the stress of jokes such as Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata Number Eight In C Minor Op. 13. It's wrong in many respects, Beethoven Pathetique piano sonata No. 8 in C minor Op. 13 might work, but for whom? Did you know that naming conventions exist? Did you know that Beethoven wrote violin sonatas and cello sonatas? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:50, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- It appeared on this list which we are systematically clearing to determine the names of needed articles. We redirect as many variants as possible, because at least one person thought that was the name. Nice pun BTW! Jokestress (talk) 20:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks ;) - where does the list come from? "Minor" should be "minor", "Number" should be abbreviated, the number itself not a word, the nickname Pathetique probably italic, - can we educate that one person, rather than create a redirect that should not be imitated? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- ps: I also saw (not by you) Beethoven sonatas, redirected to his piano sonatas, - but he also wrote violin sonatas and cello sonatas, - misleading, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:26, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Per your inquiry, I have redirected Beethoven sonatas to Beethoven's sonatas, which disambiguates sonatas by featured instrument. Please feel free to expand Beethoven's violin sonatas and Beethoven's cello sonatas into articles similar to Beethoven's piano sonatas. Jokestress (talk) 02:21, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry to but in, but redirects such as this should be encouraged (along with most combinations of the factors you mention) because they are very likely search terms. Redirects exist to enable people to find the articles they are looking for, whether they know Wikipedia's naming conventions or not (and particularly if they don't). I know little about this sort of music, but do occasionally listen to Classic FM, so my exposure to the titles is mostly by hearing it rather than reading it. I would be particularly unlikely to guess that "number" should be abbreviated, doubly so as the naming conventions for the areas of Wikipedia I'm most familiar with (rail transport, geography and language) generally avoid abbreviations. Disambiguation link notification for April 9
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Clarissine Church (Bratislava), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Slovak (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi n stuff
Hey! Just stopping by to say "Hey!". I've been busy with biochemistry and differential equations these last few months, but it's good to see that my slack has been picked up, so to speak. I'll be back in a few weeks once exams have finished up and maybe actually start writing some of these articles that need pages instead of just redirecting. The progress page estimates that the Stanford Archives will be done on May 13, 2014, and I must say: Challenge accepted. Anyways, it's kind of nice to know that I'm not the only one out there trying to destroy this monster, as it were. Well our time together dwindles, so until our fates intertwine once more, by my troth, I am off! Sesamehoneytart 13:22, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! These lists get harder to clear as we get down to the last answers, because the topics are either complicated, obscure, or borderline notable. It's interesting how many famous works of art do not have articles. Clearly a systemic problem! These lists get cleared by fits and starts, so I look forward to when you can put a little more time against them! Jokestress (talk) 16:30, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Film producer
Todd Lieberman tried to write his own article and made a bit of a mess. I don't know if it is in your field to expand. There is lots of RS on the net and you may have some handy in your area. His people are working on getting me a photos under free licenses. I will upload them to commons, help them with OTRS etc., and link his commons category to the article. No biggy but I just fear that his end may try to expand it and make a mess again.Canoe1967 (talk) 19:37, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- The original author is probably an employee/publicist, but Lieberman definitely warrants an article. I'd see him around the Disney lot now and then. I added some more stuff and sourcing. Jokestress (talk) 23:02, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you ever so much. The user posted first at help desk wanting an article on 'himself'. No way to no for sure though. I emailed his PR for images and explained how Wikipedia works and I think they trust us with the article now. I gave them a COI link, etc. Once any images arrive then I will add those. If I don't hear from them then I will send one more email. If Larry Thomas (actor) is kicking around there you may wish to ask if he wishes to pose in as The Soup Nazi character for that article. I noticed the Comic-Con post above and may ask in that project as well. We have another notable person, User:Bebad2013/sandbox, that I have been helping with images. Her article is still in draft space but due to go live in the first week of May when more sources are published. May I ask you to take a peek at that one now or when ready? Same issue with COI creating one in a sandbox. I came across it with image copyright issues at commons. She forwarded images and email permissions from the photographers to me and they are in the OTRS backlog at commons now. (insert your favorite barnstar here and sign my name to it).Canoe1967 (talk) 23:22, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Naren Shankar
Since you're in the industry, I was wondering what you thought of Naren Shankar. I just re-watched The Quickening for the first time in years, and I was pleasantly surprised by the rich, textured storyline. I'm also surprised that it never won any awards. Viriditas (talk) 06:52, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Allison Wyatt
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Allison Wyatt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Infobox film template tweak
Hello, Andrea. A little while back you were nice enough to post a message on my IP talk page. As you can see, I've been adding AFI external link templates to film articles. (Also, when I've seen obvious errors I've tweaked them.) I'm up to # 1175 in the 60,000+ AFI listing!) Well I got to thinking: why isn't there a parameter for AFI data in the {{Infobox film}} template? The infobox template talk page archives have some very old discussion, but it didn't resolve anything. I wondering if you can do anything about this. Thanks. iP. 1234567890.71.95.39.226 (talk) 06:04, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
The article National Economic Council, Inc. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Lack of notability - no significant coverage in RS
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. OccamzRazor (talk) 01:59, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
