Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Johnkayfilms1", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because user names which might be seen as representing a specific company, organization, group, etc. are not allowed per WP:PROMONAME. In addition, user names which might seen as representing a specific, identifiable individual may be used but only if it's the user's real name as explained in WP:REALNAME. In such cases, accounts may be blocked as a precaution against damaging impersonation until the user's identity can be verified. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:42, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

John K-ay

[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself, at John K-ay. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:46, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Johnkayfilms1. I've added the above notice after seeing your request that John K-ay be refunded on Explicit's user talk page. Please understand that the Wikipedia community really discourages people from trying to create articles about themselves for the reasons given above and also because of things like Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Writing about yourself, family, friends, and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Law of unintended consequences. Most individuals who try to create articles about themselves mistakenly believe that they will have some sort of final editorial control over its content, possibly be able to use the article to promote themselves or their activities, and be able to update the article whenever they want much in the same way as they might be able to update a personal website or social media account. As explained in Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Ownership of content, however, Wikipedia doesn't quite work that way which is something that such persons often find out after its too late. Even if you're able to successfully develop and draft and have it approved by Wikipedia:Articles for creation as an article, you and anyone representing or connected to you will, in principle, be expected to not directly edit the article yourselves. You will instead be expected to seek assistance in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines if you have concerns about the article and want to change things. For reference, I'm not trying to discourage you per se from trying to create such an article; I'm only trying to let you some things about Wikipedia that you might not be aware of and might find informative. FWIW, Explicit most likely will tell you something similar when they respond to your post.
Finally, you should be very careful about posting any personal information (e.g. phone numbers, email addresses, personal identification numbers) on any Wikipedia page because such information can be seen pretty much by anyone anywhere in the world at anytime if they are able to access Wikipedia as explained in Wikipedia:Personal security practices. Please try and remember that Wikipedia is in the WP:REALWORLD and there's nothing to stop someone from taking whatever information you post and using it in an inappropriate way. Even if you remove such information at a later date, it will likely still be visible in the page's history for anyone who might be looking for it since Wikipedia keeps a public record of every edit made to a page starting from the very first edit that creates the page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:17, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
