Reverting Vandalism

[edit]

Thanks for giving everyone the heads up on the vandalism at the hot dog article. Wikipedia:Revert is a helpful link on how you can fix vandalism when you see it, since you noted that you were unsure on what actions to take. Cheers. Youngamerican 17:10, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, JohnCub/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. [edit]

Hello, JohnCub and welcome. You did everything right regarding the AFD nomination process. When you can, review Wikipedia:criteria for speedy deletion. Certain articles need not be brought to AFD, as you'll see in there. Happy editing. PJM 13:59, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal tests

[edit]
[edit]
It is not JohnCub
User:JohnCubworks, but I think it would be better to put JohnCub
this seems to include the page User:JohnCub at this point.
User:blah does NOT work. am going to try single []'s
neagtive, that didn't work. And I don't even know what to search for to find the answer. I think I remember seeing a helpme thing, maybe I'll try this.

I need help not messing up links in the Edit Summary box. I want to be able to at least link to user pages but I keep messing it up. could someone point me in the direction of the right page to learn the proper codes for this? As seen above I've tried a few different things and I'm afraid I just can't seem to figure it out.

It should work basically the way normal formatting does. Just write a link like this in an edit summary, and it will format as an intrawiki link. You have to write out URLs, I think. --W.marsh 02:25, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
hmm. User:JohnCub DOES work, but it is case sensitive (must be a linux server) now to test User_talk:JohnCub
All good. I think my format is now JohnCub Talk
the sub tag does not work. Need to remove that.

Date linking

[edit]

I added date links to your lighthouse article. All dates with Month Day or Month Day, Year are linked with brackets around the Month Day and around the year. This allows the user preference to display date either Month Day, Year as Americans like or Day Month Year as Europeans like or Year-Month-Day as computers like. You can set your preference in the "My Preferences" at the top of the page. Rmhermen 23:48, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Much appreciated! It seems the closer you are to a project the more narrow your field of vision is on that. I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks again JohnCub 00:01, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Park locmap warriorspath.jpg

[edit]

Hi, Thanks for your work here. I wanted to let you know that you have this image tagged as Public Domain because it is from the Federal Government. It is not, but rather from the Pennsylvania state government. I put a speedy delete tag on it to have an admin see what they think, but it at least needs to be retagged (probably fair use if it is allowed here at all). I will put a Protected Places box on the Warriors Path State Park page, this has a (legal) locator map built in. Ruhrfisch 16:48, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Economic impact of illegal immigrants in the United States

[edit]

As originally set up, United States immigration debate is supposed to be the legislative child of Illegal immigration to the United States. Realigning these two means that we have enough material now within Illegal immigration to the United States to form a new child page, hence Economic impact of illegal immigrants in the United States. Hope that helps as to where the material went to. Brimba 23:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal warning

[edit]

Thanks for the note - I have made this into a template and you can use by inserting onto the offenders talk page - good luck ! Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 06:54, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the used are my favorite band so i try to keep their page up to date with the lastest news and always take out the vandalism so their page is as best as it can be :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xotheusedguyox (talkcontribs)

I've heard a snippet on their myspace page but I'm afraid I haven't given them much though musically as of yet. Perhaps I will be purchasing one of their albums since I seem to spend about a third of my time on wiki reverting their vandalism. JohnCub 02:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, re:Kane image on Commons

[edit]

Thanks for adding that info to the talk page on the image of Kane, PA on Commons. I thought that was the post office but couldn't remember when I uploaded the photo. Nice country out that way, methinks. : )A mcmurray 21:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for finding this damaged #REDIRECT. The Cleveland, MS μSA is the abbreviated form of the Cleveland, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. This abbreviated form is used primarily for redirected links in tables. You have made several edits under your new account and that is how I found you. Also, I do not work for Wikipedia. I'm just a regular guy, sitting in my regular house. I'm in NO WAY asserting that you cannot edit Wikipedia. I'm just asking that you do it responsibly, with FACTS and not just random nonsense. You quit posting nonsense and I'll quit changing your edits. Sound fair? -- JohnCub 18:52, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is your point in protecting others who wish to harm your civil liberties? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Truevetteman (talkcontribs) 17:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I assure you I do not know what you are talking about. I believe that information should be available and if information is taken away I will replace it while I have the ability. JohnCub 17:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US Declaration of Independence

[edit]

Thanks for checking it. What you have written looks fine. I just saw an anonymous change with no change-log, and assumed it was vandalism :( Thanks again for being thorough. Cheers, LachlanA 18:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the same thing at first. I wish people would be required to put in an edit summary. Sure would help with the vandal sniping. :P JohnCub 18:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let there be an article about Michael Pippin

[edit]

I bet people wouldn't vandalise wikipedia if their was an article about Michael Pippin. Come on mate let me put an article about Michael Pippin on please. HEY! ANSWER ME!!! WHY CANT I PUT AN ARTICLE ABOUT MICHAEL PIPPIN ON!--Mpippin0002 06:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mpippin0002 (talkcontribs) 06:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

i think that you, in fact, may be an illegal immigrant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Salesactor (talkcontribs) 14:11, 16 March 2007

I'm afraid I'm not. Perhaps one day I might become one if I study hard enough.  :) JohnCub 14:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you used a template

[edit]

I like the welcome message you posted on User talk:24.147.121.167. Could you tell me the exact name of that welcome vandal' template? Please reply here on your talk page. Thanks S. Miyano 15:23, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I use the template made by Brookie. I find it to be very eye catching and informative.  :) JohnCub 15:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you again. S. Miyano 15:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for Keeping the Great Depression article free from vandalism

[edit]

although i must admit i chuckled a bit when someone changed the article to say, The Great Depression was sad. TitaniumDreads 22:08, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly I find much of the vandalism very very funny. Still, one must revert. And thanks for the thanks.  :) JohnCub 22:09, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unjustified Block

[edit]

Good sir, you have reported my IP address for a recent change I did to Wikipedia. You are mistaken; I did not add a silly remark, I removed one. There was a stupid Chuck Norris Joke in the middle of his family history, and I deleted it. I'm not sure how the process works, but if it shows me adding the stupid remark rather than deleting, then the system needs changed.

I'm not upset about being blocked; I don't intend on adding stuff to wikipedia. But if I see something stupid, and I delete it, and I get blocked for it... well, it doesn't seem like the most logical flow of responsibility, does it?

Anon —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.140.145.36 (talk) 00:58, 17 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, I see where you cleaned up the vandalism at the Chuck Norris article but I don't think I submitted you for blocking. I also note there is no block on your IP at the current time. Also, I'm not an administrator, just a regular guy. JohnCub 01:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was sent your Silliness message, it's on my IP's discussion, anyway. (Sorry, I'm not sure of wikipedia procedure for any of this.)

I see it now, very sorry about that. But you are not blocked. I put a note on your talk page about my mistake. I apologize greatly! You should create an account so you can have a watchlist and all the other features that wiki provides logged in users. Again, I apologize for the silliness template when you were just helping. I'll watch more closely in the future. JohnCub 01:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it's fine. I'm sorry about my irate tone; I just didn't like to be thought of as a vandal, regardless of my anonymity. I will indeed create a user page for when I find such things in the future, thank you for the suggestion. 74.140.145.36 01:44, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note on the above user, when someone is blocked they are still able to edit there own talk page because they can appeal the block by adding the unblock template. This means that there page is open to abuse and trolling, if he continues to remove the warnings, I'll fully protect the talk page, but at the minute, its not doing anyone any harm so I'll just let him do whatever he wants! Cheers again Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 18:25, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ah yes, that makes sense. I hadn't thought of the appeal process. JohnCub 18:30, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MICHAEL PIPPIN REVOLUTION

[edit]

Hey are you gonna answer me JohnCub or what? Why cant i put an article about Michael Pippin on Wikipedia? He is an absoulute legend who is starting a revolution you better answer me this time!--Mpippin0002 06:59, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please refer to Wikipedia:Notability for the full reason you can't put an article on Michael Pippin on Wikipedia. Assuming you are Michael Pipping, try touting your deeds on your User Page. JohnCub 20:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my comments at the article talk page. Cheers --Dweller 15:24, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the day

[edit]

Hello, I notice you're using one of the motd templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:23, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
