[edit]

Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to User talk:Bidgee has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please use the user warnings sandbox for any tests you may want to do, or take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. Thank you. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 11:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I see what happened. I left the least offensive thing I could think of since Bidgee looked solid. I just misread his own revision. Not sure what happened in clearing the vandalism. The IP address that left it was not warned. Thanks.Jobberone (talk) 11:30, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ken. It was the word cum that I was looking at. It triggered a vandalism alert. I couldn't really tell if it was the bad word or not so I reverted it. If it really means something else then please revert it back to the way you had it. Cheers! I'll leave this on your talk page as well.Jobberone (talk) 03:01, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute question

[edit]

Hello, I and one other author have been going back and forth with edits on the Stress Field Detector article. I stopped editing the article but have continued documenting on the talk page. However, not sure if or when any other editors will look into this. The other author who goes by 173.180.170.31 or Alik 72 claims to have been involved with the technology at an early stage and I question whether he should be editing. Overall the article has become sloppy (lots of unreferenced claims) and I'd appreciate if someone else could take a look at it. Saw Feynman above so thought this might of interest. I started the article in 2008 when I first discovered wikipedia. Probably should have left this to the pros. --Hmatos (talk) 21:46, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Jobberone, I noticed you've listed yourself as a volunteer at the dispute resolution noticeboard but you haven't been very active there lately - I was hoping if you had some spare time if you could take a look there and offer some assistance. Thanks again for your help :-) Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 11:26, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I've been busy lately but I'll try to do a little work here and there. Thanks for the invite. Jobberone (talk) 21:49, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I came to answer the question from my talk page. When closing thread you need to (all within the case):

  1. replace the first unnamed argument of {{DR case status}} (it should be "open", "stale" or "review") with either "resolved" (if resolved on noticeboard) or "closed" (if resolved elsewhere or DR failed);
  2. replace the string starting with "" with a template {{DRN archive top|rationale here ~~~~}};
  3. put {{DRN archive bottom}} at the bottom of the case.

So it would look like this:

== Example article ==
{{DR case status|resolved}}
{{drn filing editor|Example|13:49, 1 September 2012 (UTC)}}
{{DRN archive top|Consensus on wording was reached. ~~~~~}}
<span style="font-size:110%">'''Have you discussed this on a talk page?'''</span>
<...>
{{DRN archive bottom}}

The article Mixed breed dog

[edit]

Thank you for your help. I noticed from your talk page that you are interested in improving articles about dogs, and you seem to be knowledgable about them. You are familiar with the article Mixed breed dog. Are you interested in working with us on improving that article? There are several talk page sections that could be responded to, and, needless to say, feel free to edit. Chrisrus (talk) 03:57, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invite and I'll try to get by some but right now I'm having problems keeping up with the work I need to do. I was asked to help more at the DRN and I'll try to do that some. Thanks again. Jobberone (talk) 04:11, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The citation we are using for the lead distinguishes crossbreeds, the result of artificial selection, and mongrels ("mixed breeds"), which are not intentially mated looking for a particular intended result. I find in my personal experience that most people do repect this distinction in context; few people call Maltipoos and such "mixed breeds", although some proponents of purebred dogs do. So I undid your shortening of the lead based on the fact that this is what the citation says, but besides that, it seems to be true, and we have another article about crossbreeds and they are outside of the scope of the article about naturally selected mongrels, only. For example, many of the things you improved the article with about, the problems of inbreeding inherent to purebreeding, seem to be also true of the breeding of crossbreed dogs, which are also deliberately back-bred and inbred in order to get the to breed true. I hope you will agree that it's natural to that referent of the article mongrel naturally seems to want to be unbred dogs, only, not artificially selected dogs, but more importantly that's what the citation says. Invitation to comment at Monty Hall problem RfC

[edit]

Because of your interest in dispute resolution,, I am inviting you to comment on the following RfC:

Talk:Monty Hall problem#Conditional or Simple solutions for the Monty Hall problem?

This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:49, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind clarifying who you are replying to with your latest comments in the "Defining the problem and your goals" section. It seems pretty unclear to me :). -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 12:03, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. TransporterMan. Everytime I bring up the subject of moving dispute resolution to mediation then arbitration he brings up his proposal which I have never even seen. I'm happy to look at it but I really don't care who proposes what and how as long as we move to fix the dispute process. IMO, it will remain mired in bureaucracy and stalemate unless we change the current process. It wasn't my intention to offend anyone although I expected my comments would some as it conflicts with the status quo. I'm not trying to be controversial or adversarial. I also addressed Amadscientist. Best. Jobberone (talk) 18:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Followup RFC to WP:RFC/AAT now in community feedback phase

[edit]

Hello. As a participant in Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Abortion article titles, you may wish to register an opinion on its followup RFC, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Abortion advocacy movement coverage, which is now in its community feedback phase. Please note that WP:RFC/AAMC is not simply a repeat of WP:RFC/AAT, and is attempting to achieve better results by asking a more narrowly-focused, policy-based question of the community. Assumptions based on the previous RFC should be discarded before participation, particularly the assumption that Wikipedia has or inherently needs to have articles covering generalized perspective on each side of abortion advocacy, and that what we are trying to do is come up with labels for that. Thanks! —chaos5023 20:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Editor Assistance Request

[edit]

Dear Jobberone - We have had difficulty reaching accommodation with another Wikipedia editor, GrandDrake, and would appreciate any “Editor Assistance” you may be able to provide regarding Wikipedia policy in order to reach one.

Please see the “Talk” page for MPEG LA specifically, the conversation under the section entitled “MPEG-2 License Agreement.” GrandDrake’s criticism is based on secondary sources, which he/she has admitted have some inaccuracies. I have offered factual information from undisputed primary sources with proposed language for the “Criticism” section in order to allow users to draw their own opinions of GrandDrake’s criticism. Although I have made various wording revisions to satisfy him/her, GrandDrake continues to reject the revised language, citing WP:PRIMARY and WP:NOR. I do not consider the sources I want to cite as being “original research” as they are reliable, published sources. While I would agree that the sources I want to cite are “primary sources”, Wikipedia states that “primary sources” can be used to make “…straightforward, descriptive statements of facts…” which is what I have done.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Otherwise, I look forward to any assistance that you are able to provide. Thank you. --Oemtom (talk) 20:11 17 June 2013 (UTC)

It is the opinion pieces used as references in the criticism that are being used to advance a position. I only want to present the facts for balance so readers can have the benefit of knowing them and draw their own conclusion. I'll think about possible next steps. Thanks for your help. --Oemtom (talk) 15:58 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello Jobberone. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Montivipera wagneri".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Montivipera wagneri}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Rankersbo (talk) 10:37, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editor Assistance Request - White Privilege

[edit]

Dear Jobberone

I am having difficulty with a number of editors on adding criticism to the "White Privilege" page. This situation is complicated.

I went down the route of an RfC on the idea of creating a Critique section. This was rejected and I accept this. However, a number of editors are now claiming that, in the process of rejecting the Critique section, all the criticisms are also rejected. This I do not accept as the criticism have good RS. These editors refuse to engage with a discussion on the RS and revert my edits. I am a bit lost as what to do next, and I need help with resolving this dispute.

You can find reference to the talk page here https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:White_privilege#White_Privilege_as_ad_hominem_attack and here https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:White_privilege/Archive_11#RfC_should_this_article_contain_a_"Critique_section".

While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Dear Jobberone, I had posted requesting help but then saw your previous post saying that you were going in for surgery. I hope that you are doing better soon! Best, Murray Daw

Research Project

[edit]

Hi Jobberone

I'm an anthropology student doing an online research project on wikipedians and their motivations and ideals for writing and editing wikipedia pages. I was wondering if you would be interested in answering a few questions I have - sort of like a small online interview.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Jobberone. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
