Poynings' Law move

[edit]

Odd that you should move the article without a word of explanation at the talk page? Is there another law of Poynings? What about WP:COMMON NAME? --Red King (talk) 18:22, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I hope the current Poynings' Law and children explains. jnestorius(talk) 19:03, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Walker's Hibernian Magazine entry in Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello,I'm very appreciative that I am mentioned as a source in this article. I publish a newsletter called WHEN WE WERE IN IRELAND. Newsletter no. 10 (2019) has a good amount of newly researched items on the Magazine and the Walker family who ran it. I would like to send you a free copy of this newsletter, if you will kindly let me know your address. Is there another researcher that you think might like a free copy? Louis D. MOS discretionary sanctions alert

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the English Wikipedia Manual of Style and article titles policy. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

A tag has been placed on Immanent (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Nonresident voting

[edit]

The referendum did look reasonably imminent last year, as they'd gone as far as establishing a referendum commission. Good work though now moving the 39th back to its old title and rearranging the text within! That would probably have been the obvious thing for me to do after noting in the text that it had lapsed. —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 09:34, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They used to wait till the bill had passed all Dáil and Seanad stages before establishing the commission, but people complained there was not enough time for it to operate. So now instead we have abortive commissions when bills lapse. jnestorius(talk) 10:54, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Completion of panels

[edit]

I think it did happen this year, with Varadkar adding Mary Seery Kearney to the Labour Panel.[1]. -Iveagh Gardens (talk) 13:12, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Noice, thanks! I see a nominee was rejected as well. Updated accordingly. jnestorius(talk) 14:00, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I remembering noticing that quirk on date they were announced! A nice bit of trivia to know it hadn't happened since 1938! -Iveagh Gardens (talk) 14:28, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Don't quote me on that. I know it happened in 1938 because some of the opposition boycotted the nomination process. My assumption that it could not happen under normal circumstances was obviously incorrect — unless we blame COVID-19 for the 2020 instance? jnestorius(talk) 14:48, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Saoirse McHugh

[edit]

Hi Jnestoroius

I was very surprised by your nomination at WP:Articles for deletion/Saoirse McHugh. The assertions in your nomination are wildly at variance with the facts I found, which ii posted in a long comment.[2] Please will you consider withdrawing the nomination? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:23, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Finglas civil parish

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your edits there. Just wondering why you deleted all the Logainm citations. Laurel Lodged (talk) 08:13, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced them with https://www.logainm.ie/en/s?txt=in:844&cat=BF which lists all the names. jnestorius(talk) 09:11, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
While it's shorter, its also less precise or involves scrolling in Logainm if you're looking for a particular townland. Not convinced that the contraction is an improvement. Have you used it elsewhere? Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:17, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think scrolling through one page is more convenient than opening 34 pages. I don't know what you mean by "less precise". jnestorius(talk) 10:19, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
