"This user is"

[edit]

Hey, where do you get all of those..."this user is" at?

In the episode, as Fat Tony and his mob members are driving to the Simpson's house, on a sign over the interstate it says the population and elevation of Springfield

Please do not move actors from "expected" to "confirmed" without providing evidence. Best regards, Ëvilphoenix Burn! 02:27, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Nissan Versa

[edit]

Hello, good work on Nissan Versa, and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Nissan Versa? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! — BRIAN0918 • 2005-12-4 20:50

Thanks for the fix. I really just transcribed the information into the infobox, and occasionally checked the veracity at SNPP. I guess I got suckered that time. :P --Closedmouth 08:59, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tommy James & The Shondells

[edit]

Thank you for your message.

I am baffled by your reference to ‘vandalism’. If I intended to scupper the Wikipedia pages, why would I be a registered user ?

I am a married man, of 51 years of age, live in East Yorkshire, England, and have a life long interest in ‘pop music’. Specifically, over the past five years, I have slowly compiled my own “Pop Star Birthday File” database. It currently has almost 3,800 entries for each individual, which has been painstakingly researched through more ‘media’ than I care to remember. You may be aware that subterfuge over ‘real birth details’ is a popular occupation by show business managers, promoters, etc. Consequently I quickly learned to check, double check, and triple check every piece of information that I uncovered regarding date of birth, place of birth, real full name, etc of every performer.

I have not kept a note of exactly where each minutiae was uncovered, but I have a copious library of reference work, and spend an inordinate amount of time trying to be as accurate as possible - frankly, I should get out more !

Indeed, I am a radio presenter in East Yorkshire, where my weekly programme makes use of the forthcoming week’s entries in this “Pop Star Birthday File”.

Should you care to examine my input to Wikipedia, you will find that it focuses primarily on ‘factual information’, relating to music star’s birth details etc. I can not pretend I am always correct - indeed I welcome alternative evidence to confound my so-called ‘facts’. I am merely trying to expand Wikipedia, as it has been good to me in my ongoing research. “Scratching each other’s backs“, so to speak.

I realise this is a diatribe trying to justify what I am doing, but I believe my overall intent is purely innocent.

Should you, or anyone else wish to factually challenge my input over accuracy, then I will try my very best to find a reliable source for my ‘edits’. I am relatively new to Wikipedia, and truly wish it well. I can not understand your threat of ‘permanent banning‘.

In addition, I assume you are accusing the correct person. My last input to the page in question was on 28 January, since which I appear to have made around 650 other 'edits'. So I am not too sure actually what crime I am supposed to have committed !

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use instead of test. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Hello, when you want to link to the article about a Rolls-Royce, please do not link to Rolls-Royce, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Rolls-Royce plc by writing out Rolls-Royce. Regards, Jeff3000 21:35, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! As tempting as it is to respond to nonsense like this, it's usually better to just ignore it, or simply remove it. He's just looking for a reaction with that sort of trolling; the most frustrating thing you can do to him is to ignore him. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:28, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget to subst: templates!

[edit]

Hi,

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use instead of test. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Thanks! :)

Re: my 'is gay' edit. Holy crap!! I thought I did an undo on 147.92.2.47's "is gay". Sorry, I don't know how that happened. I'm thinking I reverted Patstuart's diff by accident, thereby undo-ing his undo. Sorry, I'm new at this. --Xerxesnine

Wheel of Fortune

[edit]

Thanks for catching the "Gracia" reference. The page was vandalized a few days ago by someone who changed every reference to Pat and Vanna to "Velton Adams and Gracia Lopez". I thought I'd reverted them all, but I guess I missed one. Good catch!JTRH 01:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old Jewish Man

[edit]

Hey, you put a message on my talk page a month and a half ago about Crazy Old Man/Old Jewish Man. I found his name on a heart recipient list in the episode "Homer's Paternity Coot" as Old Jewish Man and have changed the article accordingly. Just a heads up. Notability of Hamrick's

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Hamrick's, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hatch68 19:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Signature

[edit]

How do I fix it? Mine is currently this:

<span style="font-variant:small-caps"><b>Thorpe</b> | talk</span>

That signature you said about was 2005. I have changed it since then, so you could of least told me it was my old signature first. --Thorpe | talk 11:19, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks

[edit]

Please refrain from personal attacks, as you did here and here. An established editor such as yourself should be aware of WP:NPA. Consider this your warning. Nardman1 13:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize. I will refrain in the future. --Jnelson09 18:42, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DejaVu Font download

[edit]

I downloaded the font that will display the international symbol of accessibility but can't find an "install" option that was outlined in the instructions. When the window that displays the font when I click on the file mentioned, it displays. When I close the file, it changes back to ?. I don't understand anything, and I don't know who else to ask for help. I asked about this on that page, but I want a timely response. You were the one that created that page, so can you help me out? Please respond on my own talk page. --Jnelson09 23:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have to copy the font file to your desktop, right-click, and click Install. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:33, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I copied it to my desktop, but the menu that shows up when I right-click on it doesn't have an "install" option. I just get Open, Print, Scan, Open with..., Sweep with SpySweeper, Send to, Cut, Copy, Create shortcut, Delete, Rename, and Properties. --Jnelson09 00:37, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, it looks like the Install option is only there on Windows Vista. I've added instructions for Windows XP. Thanks for catching this! —Remember the dot (talk) 01:00, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No the information is not a mess. Its prose, prose is 100 times better than a bullet pointed list. The article is a GA, so I'm sorry but prose will always be preferred. Gran2 05:30, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because prose is considered to be better than lists, as I already said. See WP:MOS#Bulleted lists. Gran2 05:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can read it perfectly fine, I fail to find it confusing. Really, if there was a problem with it, that would have come up at its GAC, and nothing did. Gran2 05:40, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on List of Go Go Gadgetini's episodes, by Mschel, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because List of Go Go Gadgetini's episodes is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting List of Go Go Gadgetini's episodes, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate List of Go Go Gadgetini's episodes itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 00:19, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dixie Square

[edit]

I see you placed the npov tag on Dixie Square Mall. Could you go to Talk:Dixie Square Mall and explain why you put it there? The tag is basically meaningless without an explanation as to why. SchuminWeb (Talk) 10:19, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eleanor Bumpurs

[edit]

Hi Jnelson - if you go to www.nytimes.com and search for Eleanor Bumpurs, you'll see that is how it's spelled, with a 'U'. The BumpErs page should redirect to BumpUrs, not the other way around. Don't feel bad, it gets misspelled all the time. Regards, CliffC 04:21, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dang it! --Jnelson09 18:27, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have reverted everything. Again, dang it! --Jnelson09 18:34, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania in Atlanta!

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 01:14, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not totally interested. If it was a meetup like you had in Washington back in July, something a bit more casual, I'd be up for it. Thanks anyway. --Jnelson09 02:11, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lisa's Wedding

[edit]

I think - but I have no way of being positive - that you might have run into a sock of a user called The Hidden Message Vandal, because he was active an hour ago, and the IP in question began the same way that many of his IPs do. Keep an eye out for him and revert anything he does. -- Scorpion0422 21:23, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Jerome's lead" comment in Jeopardy! set evolution

[edit]

Just so you understand the raison d'être of the comment you removed, it was to provide integration within the Jeopardy! family on articles on the encyclopedia. Jerome Vered is a notable champion with his own article; remarking that it is him in the picture and providing that valuable link to his page was the only intention of that part of the caption. If you can think of a way to recast the caption that preseves encyclopedic tone and the value of the wikilink, please edit the article again. Robert K S 08:02, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, no need to apologize. As parentheticals go, I can see how it seemed out of place. I didn't revert your change and I'll leave it to you to improve it to your satisfaction. Robert K S 23:31, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bullet points

[edit]

I realize that bullet points makes it easier to read, but it doesn't necessairly make it better. I have no problem with you adding bullet points to articles, but please don't add them to any of these articles, because they are GAs and as such, they are supposed to have complete prose and no bullets. Thanks, Scorpion0422 13:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think they just want nice flowing paragraphs. Either way, that's something you should take up with the GA people. -- Scorpion0422 13:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No idea. I agree with you that bullet points would be nice (it would make my job a LOT easier), but in the end I think having it in paragraphs makes it look more encyclopedic. And it's not THAT much harder to read. -- Scorpion0422 13:42, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
