Your message
[edit]Hi - In reply to the message you left on my talk page, the reason I deleted your user page was because it was an advertisement for your business. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and cannot accept advertising. If you wish to contribute sourced encyclopaedic content, you are welcome to do so here, and there is more information available in the links Maccy69 left for you above. If you wish to publicise your company, I would suggest an alternative outlet, such Wikicompany or About Us.--Kateshortforbob talk 08:36, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- A quick question: before you deleted the page, I got rid of a lot of promotional content but left the name and address. I did this on gut feeling, I didn't try and find policy. How much identifying information is appropriate for a user page associated with a company? I ask partly because this user has restored the user page to how I left it before you deleted it. Also, I think you made a mistake deleting it under G10 since it wasn't an attack page - surely it should have been G11? It certainly confused me when it popped up in my watchlist. Cheers. - Kateshortforbob -having now looked, by my reading of WP:UP (and especially WP:UPNOT) you were being overly harsh to delete user page that only contained the name and address of a company. As an attempted compromise I've made a more general version, without a precise address. Apart from anything else, I think this will help the project when is comes to potential conflict of interest situations. Is that OK with you?
- Jmddryfruits - you should read WP:UP and understand that your user page isn't yours to do what you want with - you should only put things on it that are appropriate for the project. See also the links that Kateshortforbob has given. Thanks.

- Thanks for the message, Maccy69. Apologies, I must have made a slip of the mouse - I did intend to delete the page as G11:unambiguous advertising and promotion. The reason for the deletion was because, at the time, the page contained text describing Jmd Dry Fruits as "one of the Top in Premium Dry fruit market" describing it's many important customers in first-person (perhaps taken directly from promotional material?) and generally reading as promotion of the company, with no text that could be fashioned into an article, providing the company is notable. I would not be inclined to leave this material in place, as it does not seem in any way encyclopaedic, nor have I been able to find any sources from which to write an article on the subject, but I can restore it if you would like to use it.
- One thing, which I did not mention yesterday. Jmddryfruits - you will need to change your user name, as you may not use the name of a company to contribute at Wikipedia. You can find information on changing your name at this page, or you can simply stop using this name, and choose another which represents only yourself. Names which don't meet Wikipedia's username policy will often be blocked (although I will not do so at this time, as I might be seen as too involved with your case.) Feel free to drop me a note on my talk page if I can help; Wikipedia's Help Desk is also available.--Kateshortforbob talk 11:33, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ah! That makes a lot of sense - Jmddryfruits obviously did another edit after I'd removed a load of promotional stuff, which I couldn't see after you deleted the page. I just guessed, wrongly, that the the user page as restored was the same as the one you deleted. The name policy also makes a lot of sense. I'd like to assume good faith in all of this, but there's nothing so far to suggest that this account is intended for anything other than self-promotion, unfortunately. I think perhaps Jmddryfruits has to realise that, even if we two editors don't do anything more, the Wikipedia community is set up remove any self-promotion immediately and to stop it from re-occurring. On the basis of that, they should either get a new user name and contribute in the spirit of the project or leave Wikipedia and direct their efforts to a more suitable site.
