I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Getting the articles just right can be tricky - but there are lots of people to ask!

If you have any questions, just click on the Contact Me link after my signature at the end of this section. Alternatively, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question.

By the way, when you are writing on a discussion page (or someone's talk page), it is considered good manners to sign your comment... to do this, just add ~~~~ at the end of your comment. That will put your user name (Jmasini) and the date/time at the end (or you can click on the icon when you are editing. Never sign on an article page - only on a discussion page.

I am now going to add my signature, using ~~~~: -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had proposed that the article be deleted, but I came across a couple of references that seemed to indicate his notability.

May I suggest that if possible you find some sources of information about Masini that can be added to the article? If you find a book, magazine, newspaper article, etc that you want to use as a reference, just type one of the following after the information in the article which the reference is about:

  • Newspaper/Magazine article:
<ref>''Title of article'',author of article, (Title of newspaper/magazine, date of article, page(s), column(s))</ref>
  • Book:
<ref>''Title of book'', author of book, (publisher, date of publication, page(s))</ref>
  • Website:
<ref>[http://web-page-address ''Title of webpage''], author of page, date of page's creation, website name</ref>

For example:

  • John Smith was appointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.<ref>''An article in a well-known newspaper'', John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6 col 2)</ref>
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.<ref>''How do I create references?'', Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)</ref>
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonia.<ref>[http://www.a-reputable-website.org/a_useful_page.html ''How to Create Useful References''], PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org</ref>

Then at the bottom of the page, make sure you have the following two lines:

==References==
<references/> -or- {{reflist}}

This would generate (for the above examples):

  • John Smith was apointed by the UN as an ambassador to Mars in June 1986.[1]
  • John Smith is regarded as a world expert on creating references.[2]
  • While a known as a world-respected physicist, Smith is also a well-known skier who has participated in the Olympic Games representing Patagonaia.[3]

References

  1. ^ An article in a well-known newspaper, John E. Beegood, (The New York Times, 1 August 1987, page 6, col 2)
  2. ^ How do I create references?, Met-al Icca, (Heinemann Publishing, 1964, pp. 16-17)
  3. ^ How to Create Useful References, PhantomSteve, 12 March 1999, a-reputable-website.org

With basic references like this in place, more experienced editors can tidy them up! The hard bit can be finding references!

Please make sure you read the guideline Reliable Sources which details the kind of sources Wikipedia prefers to use.

If you have any questions, just ask me! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Just a quick question - where did the above photo of Masini come from? The reason I ask is that I presume that you did not take the photograph yourself! If it is from a family photograph (I'm assuming from your user name that there is a family connection), it might be wise to mention this on the file's description page (if you're not sure how, ask me, and I'll help out). If it is from a book, then this should be mentioned - the publication date of the book would help to know the copyright status.

If you let me know the source of the photograph, and if you want me to add details to the file description to show this, just contact me.

I'm going to keep looking for details about Francesco - however it would help if I knew if the Maltese version of his name would be different to Francesco Masini - for example, if there are any accents over letters, etc.

Oh, and I see you have put the article on the Malti wikipedia - well done! I don't know about that wikipedia, but perhaps they have equivalents to WikiProjects, where you could post a message asking for more information - it can be from books or newspapers as well as online.

I look forward to hearing from you!

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 14:42, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Giuseppe Pace requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. UltraMagnus (talk) 16:20, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • A quick note to explain the proposed deletion. UltraMagnus is saying that there is no indication of the importance or notability of Guiseppe Pace. This is not a personal issue, but as the article as it stands does not really say anything about why he is important or notable, it is the correct thing to do. If you have more information to add to the article which you can add now, then do so. If not, then you can ask (on the talk page, using the link above) for it to be userfied - in other words, moved to your user space so that you can work on it. However, as the name "Speedy Delete" implies, the article can be deleted at any time. If you want it moved to your user space, you need to mention this on the talk page as soon as possible. If you are too late, and the article is deleted, then you can contact the deleting administrator to ask for it to be restored to your user space - if you need help with this, contact me, and I'll help you with it (albeit on Monday, probably, as I may or may not get online again before then). -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:37, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quinqueliteral (5-letter) roots in Maltese

[edit]

Hi Jmasini! Could you maybe help me out: I would like to know if the Maltese language exhibits any roots with five or more consonants – also if they only exist only in slang. If it does, are these roots inflected as verbs, as nouns, as adjectives etc.? Are these inflections problematic? How does the National Council for the Maltese Language address these roots? How do speakers of Maltese regard these roots? Any information (and many examples!) would be greatly appreciated! Please write me here on my talk page. Thanks very much, Dan 13:02, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, lists cannot be nominated for GA status. I have removed the nomination and left a note on the talk page. –– Jezhotwells (talk) 14:55, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saint Rapheal Lake

[edit]

I just thought I'd let you know that I saw your article Saint Rapheal Lake in the New Articles list-- However, I think the article seems to contain a few errors: the article does not contain in-line citations, and so doesn't follow Wikipedia style guidelines. It would be great if you could also improve the related article Browns Wood. Amy Z (talk) 03:12, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Francesca & Mikaela requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:13, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
