License tagging for Image:Frequency pic.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Frequency pic.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:06, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Basically, the image was deleted because images provided to Wikipedia need to be free to use and copy, or used under a claim of "fair use." This means that images we have permission to use, but aren't supposed to be used freely, like this one, get speedily deleted. If the copyright owner is willing to license the image under the GFDL or a compatible license, then we can make use of it. Otherwise, we can only use the image if no free alternative could be created; see WP:FU. Mangojuicetalk 18:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If that picture is from an album cover (ie, the outside picture) you can upload it and put the {{album-cover}} tag on it; that's a fair use tag that would reasonably apply. Otherwise, the owner of the copyright will have to email permissions @ wikimedia.org and give permission for the image to be released under the GFDL. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Edward Wilkerson Jr.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Edward Wilkerson Jr.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:29, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Edward Wilkerson, as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. If there is a problem with the page, it should be edited or reverted to a previous version if possible; if you think the page should be removed entirely, see further information. Thank you. -- IRP 00:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
