Grays Athletic season article

[edit]

Hi Jimbo, Ihave moved this back as it was restored to your user space so you could work on it to show non routine coverage ssatisfying GNG. I presume that you moved it by mistake given that you have done nothing on it and that I am wrong in assuming your sole reason for requesting Userfication was to wait until you thought it had been forgotten about before moving it iIto the main space. Please do not move back without significant sourced additions of a non routine nature. Fenix down (talk) 22:11, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, No I moved it back having looked at every other season article going (from 2009–10, before and since) and couldn't find anything which makes them more or less relevant GNG-wise, especially those less referenced from the same season or just lists of stats with little to no prose. I don't understand your bias as to why you'd think the Grays Athletic article is any more or less notable than the Mansfield Town one of the same season? Also, if somebody contests a PROD having it gone past its 7-day period or not, should it not be discussed via AfD? I'm going to move it back again, and I think you should set this up for discussion properly, rather than your own personal opinion trying to force rule. Thanks --Jimbo[online] 09:48, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As you can clearly see here, you made promises to add additional sources to help meet GNG. You have made no effort to do this, but have simply moved back into the mainspace. Given that you have made no attempt to do what you said it is difficult to believe that your original request for userfication was made in good faith. As such, I will not restore any articles to your userspace in future. Fenix down (talk) 10:15, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just haven't had the time to yet, I don't spend every waking hour on Wikipedia mate. I noticed you've avoided my question about other articles of similar levelled clubs. --Jimbo[online] 16:55, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So you shouldn't have moved it into the main space simply because you haven't had time. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is never a good reason for or against deletion. You should probably also be aware that if the consensus is to delete then there is little reason for a version to remain in your user space either. Fenix down (talk) 19:20, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Using OTHERSTUFF is a lazy cop out especially for an admin, I've been around Wikipedia long enough to know the ways people get their own way. You've stated with more non-routine coverage it'll meet GNG so it can stay in my userspace until then, thanks. --Jimbo[online] 18:29, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Template:Grays Athletic F.C. squad, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Football Squad Player Nationalities

[edit]

Hey Jimbo - hope you're doing excellently?

I've noted your close curation of certain football clubs pages, particularly around current players, in recent months, deleting where you think they're not up to date, and removing nationalities for those players who don't have an individual Wikipedia page. First up, well done for all your good work.

Out of interest, what do you think would give justification for a players nationality, where they don't have their own Wiki page? And how should that be incorporated into the squad lists? I understand this will probably link to Wikipedia policy, but I want to make sure we're all working from the same place before you feel tempted to get busy with that 'undo' button!

Look forward to hearing from you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.70.162.157 (talk) 23:23, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not specifically those without individual Wikipedia pages, just those that are unsourced. Otherwise, it constitutes as WP:OR. Walton Casuals F.C. and Billericay Town F.C. are both sourced/referenced. --Jimbo[online] 21:09, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jimbo - Re Whitehawk FC. I followed your advice on sourcing squad sources - and listed 9 references, as advised above with Walton Casuals and Billericay, yet you deleted the nationalities again, which I find puzzling - hence my undo.

Your sources need to be reliable as per WP:RS. --Jimbo[online] 16:15, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jimbo - Re Whitehawk FC. Nationalities clearly listed on club website in player biogs, as advised with Billericay, yet you have once more deleted them. Unsure why you keep doing this, but I have undone again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hrse12 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jimbo - Re Wealdstone FC. All Nationalities are clearly listed on club website/FM18 and Football manager websites. Once more you have deleted them. I am unsure as to why you keep doing this so someone else on behalf of the club has undone this. Any more removal of this and the club information will be removed by myself. Grays Thurrock F.C.

[edit]

Hi Jimbo, I noticed that there is a redirect, which you created, for Grays Thurrock F.C. that points to Grays Athletic. I'm in the process of expanding the Frank Burton article so have been trying to unpick this a little. Michael Joyce's book has Burton joining Grays Thurrock. This would have been in 1925, and they were definitely different clubs at least at this point. There are articles in the BNA about the establishment of the Grays Thurrock club around this time, and reports of both Grays Thurrock and Grays Athletic competing as distinct entities in the Kent League. It may be that they merged together at some subsequent point, but there is no mention of this in the Grays Athletic article. I'm therefore wondering about the appropriateness of the redirect (and the inclusion of Burton in Category:Grays Athletic F.C. players). Is there any further light you could shed on this? Many thanks, Nzd (talk) 14:21, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a bit more research and also spoken with @Ureinwohner (see here). They are unquestionably different clubs and I don't see any connection to Grays Athletic at all (other than that they groundshared for some time). I've started an article – Grays Thurrock United – and am currently fixing the relevant player links that I find. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 17:28, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. They were two separate entities. --Jimbo[online] 15:34, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
