User talk:Jfitzmartin
Hello there. I reverted your edits to this article and I'd like to explain why. First of all it was a copyright violation. See Talk:Joseph Fitzmartin which explains more about this and why it had to be removed. Please do not re-add this material. Even if it hadn't been a copyvio, it was completely unencyclopedic and promotional in tone, and had no references to support any of the assertions. Also, by pasting that text in wholesale, all the formatting and references from previous editors (representing a lot of work) was removed. There is more about this aspect on the talk page as well.
If you have any connection at all with Joseph Fitzmartin (personal or professional), you need to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiography for guidance on editing under these circumstances and follow the advice given there. In the meantime, here are some other pages that new editors often find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
- Biographies of living persons guidelines
Be sure to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} here on your talk page and ask your question. Someone will come along to help. Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jfitzmartin. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Joseph Fitzmartin, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 21:13, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
