Caitlin Jenner - Pronouns

[edit]

Wikipedia has a Manual of Style to guide editors on lots of things, including gender appropriate pronouns. The relevant section seems to be Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Gender identity. (There are probably other related sections too. It's huge!). A quick glance suggests it agrees with your view.

You could raise your specific concerns on the Talk page of the Caitlin Jenner article, but I recommend you avoid suggesting any such errors are due to transphobia. They may well be genuine mistakes. I'm an old bloke who has no issues with trying to use the correct pronouns at all times, but 60 years of writing without this being an issue is an old habit to break. Don't assume ill will. Just ask for things to be done correctly now. HiLo48 (talk) 04:10, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to write comments on the Talk Page of the Caitlin jenner article. I looked and it was not apparent to me. Highlow, I'm 52 and I'm not that young and I say that age is not a good excuse for not keeping up to date with what's respectful. We wouldn't hang an African-American and say well you know back in my day....I'm being a bit silly, never use your age as an excuse for not doing the right thing, in my opinion. I would say something like This article would read much better if 'she' were referred to as 'she' even when she was known as Bruce Jenner. That's much more respectful and there is much less of that feeling of 'avoiding the issue'. I have come across Wikipedia before not understanding about retrospective "she's". It's a little bit 'no good', not trying to be insulting. It's ignorant and insulting, to put it bluntly. I would change it myself but I have come across quite a history of myself making changes to poorly expressed articles to do with TG people and then to have that all wiped out by someone without any good reason. Is there a way I can complain about this, Hi Lo? Jessica Smith is my name. My actual name. Jessica T Ward (talk) 23:57, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
