Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Jennipeng, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Critiques by Jennifer

[edit]

Content:

  • Some phrases are ambiguous, what kind of environment is the others? in this following phrase "They appear in folklore from many countries such as India, Scandanavia and others." where is others? how are the other environment like?
  • Error in citation need to be fixed.
  • Many phases in "Quorum Sensing" are lacking proper citation and should search for more, so that it is not heavily rely on one source.
  • Better added a section describe bacteria morphology to indicate the general shape and structure of the bacteria
  • In the evolution section, better describe the cause of evolution such as factors that causes speciation

layout

  • The article is also short on information in distribution sector. Enviromental condition that suitable for bioluminescent is still unknown. If information on distribution is limited, I would suggest combine these"
Of all light emitters in the ocean, bioluminescent bacteria is the most abundant and have various species. However, the distribution of bioluminescent bacteria is uneven which suggests evolutionary adaptations. "
Bioluminescent bacteria is found mainly in marine environments, but also found in freshwater, and terrestrial environments. They are globally found, in form of free-living, or symbiont, or parasite,[11] and possibly opportunistic pathogens.[10]"
  • I am not sure if history is your lead section. If it is, every subtitle below need to be covered. I think bacterial groups that exhibit bioluminescence, symbiosis with other organisms, role are not indicated in the history section. If history is not the lead section, you need to make one.
  • Move the genetic diversity next to evolution
  • I think the roles and symbiosis with other organisms are little bit overlapping. You can combine those and call it biotic interaction.

Good:

  • I like the "see also" , which specify the key word and allow people to read more about the key word in Wiki.
  • The table in bacterial groups that exhibit bioluminescence is clear and well structured.
  • Neutral content and layout is straightforward.
  • Strong relevance

Things that could be applicable to my own article

  • use "see also"
  • we could use a table to summarize the optimal temperature, pH, other substrate concentration for different species in Sulfurimonas
  • we need to work on our relevance more, so that reader would know the importance of this genus
  • might to restructure out article with subtitle 1. history (name, first discovery, etc) 2.optical environmental condition(including a tabel) 3. genetic difference 4.metabolism 5.Microecology 6. Interaction with other organisms to clean it up.
