Justin - your question about the common misspellings page is well-taken. Answer: yes, it's completely all right to leave a little explanation there. DS 23:57, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Black people
[edit]I need help at black people. I am not capable of edit warring against several sock puppets. Whatever consensus we reach in the talk page does not matter if it does not show in the article. We can not all give in to the nonsense. --Ezeu 20:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Escalators and travelators
[edit]The split looks okay. However, i am wondering if travelator is the more common name than moving walkway. What do you think? Simply south 22:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Its probably okay for now. It seems to be very common after i've done a quick google search, although according to ne dictionary website, moving walkway is a British term. Here in the UK, I've not heard it so frequently and heard travelator more frequently. But it may just be here. I think it will do as moving walkway. Simply south 22:18, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I just realised i misread the dictionary definition (Encarta). Yeah, lets just stick with moving walkway after all. Simply south 22:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Pasty
[edit]Please stop removing "England" from "Cornwall, England" at Pasty. See Talk:Pasty for more information. In addition, please do not go around calling reverts for a proper reason "vandalism". Read WP:CORNWALL and Cornwall before editing that article again. -- dcclark (talk) 02:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- That wasn't me. I was editing the article to change the text at the top that said the article was about 'Cornish Pasty'. The guy you're after is Jellery--Jcvamp 02:23, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- : Huge apologies!! I saw the "J" user name and just clicked. Sorry to waste your time. -- dcclark (talk) 11:24, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Commercial use of Image:Fishslice1.jpg
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Fishslice1.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Fishslice1.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).
If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.
If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.
If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Fishslice1.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 13:18, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Almouth
[edit]Given the length of time you have been contributing, I was very surprised to see you make some very fundamental mistakes:
- if a new title is felt appropriate, we always use the move command. Using copy and paste destroys the article history.
- there is a well established standard that UK railway station articles will have lower case 'r' and 's' in their titles
- having created Alnmouth For Alnwick Railway Station, however bad the title was, it was rather silly to create a redirect to a different title! (If you had used a move, the correct redirect would have been created anyway!)
In any case, I suggest that we stick to the station name that National Rail use until they change. -- RHaworth 05:26, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I was the one who provided the initial cite on the cup sizes for the Starbucks article. The reason I chose to put it there was due to ongoing edits of 24 ounces as the size for iced venti cups -- there had been debate over whether it was 24 or 26, so to quell the edit warring, I cited the specific size there. Just an FYI -- thanks. pinotgris 00:22, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

- That was accidental. I was busy editing the page, and I'd copied and reworded the content. I pressed save by accident whilst the box was empty.--Jcvamp 23:44, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Wetman is completely correct the terms refers to the entire certain and particular assemblage and not a handrail. I have given a definitive modern reference on Wetman's page. A balustrade can serve as a form of decorative parapet, protective edging or fencing. It can serve as a handrail when used on a staircase but it is far from the same thing as a handrail. Giano 15:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input. I have replied on Wetman's page. The only thing that I find irritating is that Wetman decided to insult my intelligence rather than just arguing calmly. I may not be an expert on architecture, but I have heard the term balustrade being used in the context I cited, so I checked dictionaries to see if I was correct (again, admitting that I don't know everything). I found that the dictionaries backed up the defintion I'd heard, and I updated the article based on that as the current information was uncited.--Jcvamp 22:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi , I just put in my two cents worth on Wetman's talk page if youre not sick of the discussion! Mhicaoidh 11:22, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Semi-Vegetarian
[edit]RE. your recent update to Vegetarian page -
- Flexitarianism (sometimes called semi-vegetarianism) — A diet that consists primarily of vegetarian food, but that allows occasional exceptions.
- I think if vegetarian means not eating animals, then you can't have a semi-vegetarian, any more than you can have semi-unique. I don't feel strongly enough to change it, but you may want to if you agree. Thanks Bob98133 01:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree that the term is stupid, but it is one that is used in regards to 'Flexitarianism'.--Jcvamp 02:22, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Murder by numbers (disambiguation)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Murder by numbers (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
- disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. All the best, France3470 (talk) 14:12, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for January 4
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Amble, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fred Taylor (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

MOSNUM
[edit]WP:MOSNUM specifically says no commas for 4-digit numbers, thus 6044 rather than 6,044. Always looks odd to me but there is no way a figure next to the word "Population" is ever going to be confused with a year.--176.253.179.215 (talk) 20:45, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Duly noted. Sorry, didn't realise.--Jcvamp (talk) 20:56, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Bah, I got it wrong. Perhaps this is one of the recent changes to MOS and, if so, then it is A Good Thing. 4-digit numbers now "may or may not be delimited" - a vast improvement!--176.253.179.215 (talk) 20:59, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Delimiting has always been my preference.--Jcvamp (talk) 21:25, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Jcvamp. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, The Ambler, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. noq (talk) 13:27, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Skene's gland page
[edit]Hello! I am writing in regards to the Skene's gland page. I think getting into an undo/re-do edit cycle on the page would be unproductive, so I would love to instead have a discussion where we work towards a common ground on how to best approach presenting some of the information on the subject. The current literature on the glands does reflect that there is a bit of controversy surrounding how one is to refer to the organ — female prostate is starting to eclipse the usage of Skene's gland, but the latter is still in use in a few circles/contexts — and I am always interested to understand why certain groups/individuals lean more towards one term as opposed to the other. Based on what I have read, my edits tried to highlight 'female prostate' as the dominant term while also indicating the term 'Skene's gland' is also used, whereas the original form of the article had the reverse. As your edit indicates, the original form is one you find to be more fitting, and were you to have the time, I would very much appreciate getting to exchange some of the information that we have both read so that the best form possible can be achieved for this article. I hope that this message finds you well, and I look forward to any dialogue we may have! Best, Womeninscience20 (talk) 15:43, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi. The issue I have with changing the term throughout the article is that it's a major change and it requires citations to show that 'female prostate' is now the correct or more dominant term. I have no personal preference, and any individual's preference is irrelevant; it's solely about whether or not any claims made in the article can be substantiated. If you can clearly support that with citations, changing the article to reflect that is fine. In either case, adding a section about terminology that explains that 'female prostate' is starting to become more prevalent and any controversy surrounding certain terms, again with citations, would be a good idea.--Jcvamp (talk) 12:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
