Darwipli - seeking adoption

I am sorry. And I am pretty active on the German site of Wikipedia, also as Darwipli. Unfortunately nobody has shown interest to support me on the English site of Wikipedia. I am very interested in the articles about Cooperation / Collaboration / Division of Labor. I am trying to establish a project on the German site, which will be the base for me to establish a similar site on the English site. --Darwipli (talk) 06:16, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I will happily be your adopter, though how "good" are you at using Wikipedia so far? jcc (tea and biscuits) 19:50, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Adoption

Yes! I'm still interested in adoption. I would love for you to adopt me, and set up a classroom for me. Thanks. Charlotte Tame (talk) 13:22, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Done so and I'm glad to have you "on board"! The link is: User:Jcc/Adoption/Charlotte Tame. A bit long-I know. The first two tasks are on there- though I would call the first one a task, more of a meet and greet. jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:23, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll get started as soon as I can! Charlotte Tame (talk) 16:31, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Notable sources

Hello Jcc. An article I have been writing had been rejected by you. I have jumped across the hurdles of notability and verifiable references, to come up to a new hurdle of notable references. This is what I understood from the note that you left me. The person was born in 1897, died in 1950. There are practically no online news articles, or anything of that sort. Would appreciate it if you could tell me how to get around this? What worries me is that articles of a similar nature have been approved for less!! any feedback you could give me would be highly appreciated Mentabolism (talk) 20:40, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Mentabolism, I declined your submission because its sources aren't reliable. Take a look at WP:Reliable sources to see what I mean. However, I would be prepared to accept your submission as long as you add a description of references 5,6 and 7 and add at least one reliable source. jcc (tea and biscuits) 09:08, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi Jcc, Thank you very much for your feedback. I will definitely add those descriptions. As far as reliable sources. The books written about the subject are about all there is. There is next to nothing online, and I haven't referred to those online sources simply because they would not pass any reliability criteria. I will approach you again once I have added those descriptions and request you to spare some time to help me with getting the article created. Thanks Mentabolism (talk) 08:40, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism:okay, take all the time you need! jcc (tea and biscuits) 09:38, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Hello Jcc, I have made the changes as you had suggested. Would be great if you could spare a few minutes to review the article again, for more improvements to get it created. thanks Mentabolism (talk) 13:12, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Geevarghese_Mar_Philoxenos Mentabolism (talk) 13:18, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
I'll fully review it very soon, but here's a few points:
  • The most important claim at the top, about him serving as Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese is unsourced.
  • Getting a picture of him to put in the infobox if possible?
  • Your description weren't exactly what I meant- I thought that you could use {{cite web}} for references 5,6 and 7.
However, I've marked the article so that it says I am reviewing so you can have time to fix these minor problems (the second bullet point isn't that important). Hope that helps, jcc (tea and biscuits) 14:16, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Jcc, Sorry for the newbie questions but -

His service as Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese is sourced from 2 sources, 1- the diocese website and 2- a book which is reference (4). are those OK?
Trying to source a portrait. The ones available on the web are really tiny.
I have used a cite web for references 5,6,& 7. So obviously, I have done something wrong, as we are not on the same page. Could you shed more light on that? Mentabolism (talk) 06:03, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism:It's ok, but it needs an inline citation which I've done for you using a reference name (for reusing of references)
Ah. I didn't see that, but with {{cite web}} and any other citing templates, you normally try to fill in as much of the parameters as you can, in this case: {{cite web |url= |title= |last1= |first1= |last2= |first2= |date= |website= |publisher= |accessdate=19 July 2013}}. If you don't need some of them, get rid of them by removing the | and the parameter (something like publisher or date etc.). For example, if your source didn't name the date or who wrote it, you template might look like this: {{cite web |url=http://www.it-always-has-to-start-with-a-http://www.-and-end-with-a-.com |title= Former Bishops of the Thumpamon Diocese|website= Find my Bishop.com |publisher= Bishops Online Publishing|accessdate=the date when you put in the reference (i.e. the date today)}}.
The portrait being small is fine- in fact if it isn't a free picture then that might actually help your claim of fair use. Hope that helps, and thanks for the barnstar! jcc (tea and biscuits) 09:42, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jcc, as I understand it, all the points have been covered. What happens next? I felt some reviewers are quick to decline, not so to explain and assist. Cant blame anyone, but... Mentabolism (talk) 15:23, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

@Mentabolism: As I see it, I don't think that you've done the cite web point- more parameters are needed for an effective reference. I know this seems like a slog- but after you've done that, I'll happily pass it. Hope that helps, and if you don't understand a word of what I'm talking about, tell me! jcc (tea and biscuits) 10:56, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jcc, let me go over that again..and get back to you Mentabolism (talk) 12:47, 20 July 2013 (UTC) Hello Jcc, I have worked on those references and some others. I had never used the show/hide extra fields button on the citeweb window before. Thank you!! I have added as much information as available and have marked those references which are in Malayalam using the language box. :) Do let me know if there is more that I need to do. Mentabolism (talk) 10:18, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Done @Mentabolism: Enjoy your article being on Wikipedia, and it has been a pleasure to work with you and I hope you've learnt a thing or two about Wikipedia articles. I apologise for being nit-picking a lot, but I hope it was worth it. Thank you, jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:08, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much Jcc, It was an absolute pleasure to work with you. I didn't want to just write an article, I wanted to do it right, and no better way to do that than to collaborate with someone who is willing and able. I did learn a lot and hope to use that too...Thank you once again Mentabolism (talk) 16:23, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Jcc, I'm reminding you again of the GA Recruitment that's been hanging, [1] since my last one was part of your talk page which you archived. Another page

Hi Jcc, I am not sure how reviewing works, but I submitted an article for review. Could you take a look at it if time permits. it can be found at http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Thomas_Chandy. Does reviewing work on a first come first serve basis, or could you just pop in and take a look at the page? Mentabolism (talk) 10:54, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

@Mentabolism: It appears that you reviewed your own article- something I don't recommend as that's a conflict of interest. However, the articles seems fine, and a real addition to Wikipedia! Reviewing works on both of the above- the page is listed at WikiProject Articles for Creation in a list of unreviewed articles- oldest first, but if you know the name of the submission, you can just pop in and review it! I hope that helps, and I would be delighted to see any more articles that you've created! jcc (tea and biscuits) 10:04, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: That was more of an experiment and excitement of having a review button. Again, I wasn't sure if it would be published, but I have learned my lesson! Mentabolism (talk) 10:35, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism: Who cares! You've got to learn one way or the other and every mistake's a learning experiences (even the the Titanic) ! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:05, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: working on a new article. shall send to you to take a look at.Mentabolism (talk) 17:18, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: hello , this is the new article I have created. please take a look. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Mentabolism/K_M_Tharakan Mentabolism (talk) 20:19, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism: Hi! As I have said, right now on the submission, "you need references for the Birth and Family claim, as the rules on autobiographies say as such, to avoid Wikipedia getting in trouble if the information's false (which of course, I bet it isn't!)". This is another article of supreme quality, and once you do that, a definite pass! Hope that helps, jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:21, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: and thats where the problem starts! I even tried contacting the subjects nephew to get a hold of his autobiography. No luck. I havent mentioned it here, because, I dont have any good sources for it! Mentabolism (talk) 16:36, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: refernce to a writer profile with the birth and family info has been added, but it is in Malayalam, the language in which the subject wrote (besides English) Is that good enough? Thank you for the awesome support! Mentabolism (talk) 17:09, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: when you do get a few minutes, please review the article. I've added the references. Mentabolism (talk) 16:23, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Done by Anne Delong, I had a search for a source not in Malayalam- might http://www.lightoflife.com/Lol_Arch_Homages.htm help? I also went and fixed the double heading- see http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=K_M_Tharakan&diff=566324223&oldid=566311585. Thanks again, jcc (tea and biscuits) 19:21, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: Thank you. I had that link but didnt consider to be really a good one, which is why I didnt add that. Thanks for fixing the heading issue. I m a total noob with software, I guess its best I leave that to you experts! Mentabolism (talk) 11:18, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism:Okay! Let me know of any new articles you make- I've learnt a lot from them! jcc (tea and biscuits) 14:24, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: Heres a new article that I have just created. Would appreciate your fine toothed comb running through it! Mentabolism (talk) 13:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
@Jcc: Thank you for the link back to Chengannur too!! - and I forgot to send you the link to the article !! wow...sorry bout that!Mentabolism (talk) 16:31, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism: That's all right! You need to add some more categories to the page and is there any free photographs of her? Thanks for another amazing article! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:43, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

@Jcc: hope you been good! here's another page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Ajai_Malhotra#Ambassador , I'd be grateful, if you could take a look at. It was started by another user, but I just filled it in. It started as a 2 liner :) . let me know what you think, and if anything more needs to be done. thanks Mentabolism (talk) 12:49, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

The article was accepted. Thank you all the same. Mentabolism (talk) 18:20, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
@Mentabolism:Sorry for missing your message, but a few tips of feedback!
  • Is there any photos of him to put in the infobox?
  • "India" as a place of birth is vague, do you the city he was born in?
  • I've shuffled the "Family" section downwards and renamed it "Personal life" as that seems to be the norm with biographies.
  • When you say "Ajai Malhotra is married to Ira Malhotra , who was a teacher and editor of a monthly magazine. He has a son and a daughter. He is the son of Om Prakash Malhotra Ira Malhotra launched the INS Trikand" - is the "monthly magazine" the INS Trikand? I've changed this for the moment, but feel free to revert my edit.
  • I've also rephrased some bits and bobs.

Well done again for another excellent article! jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:32, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

@Jcc: the INS Trikand is a warship. I mentioned it elsewhere in the article. You are right, it can be easily misunderstood. I will expand a little more on that and add a reference to that and I guess that should solve it. The DOB and POB information, is proving to be a bit difficult to find...still looking.

Thanks for the recommendations and the improvements! appreciate it! Mentabolism (talk) 18:54, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

@Jcc: Hello, how have you been. Please find an article I have made. appreciate you running your fine toothed comb through it and look forward to your feedback.https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Safa_Al_Hashem Thanks Mentabolism (talk) 12:50, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

@Mentabolism: Thanks for the article- I've passed it, and I've copyedited a few bits, though I didn't have to change much as this article was of an excellent quality (as always)! Thank you, jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:46, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

@Jcc: it would seem by the look of it that you are not here often too.. :) Could you take a look at new page I have created. Would appreciate your feedback.https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/R._Sreelekha Mentabolism (talk) 10:12, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Your non-admin close again

Lest you be the last person to be aware, please see this. No action required, just a note to inform you that your non-admin intervention did not solve anything, on the contrary it appears to have just licensed 100s of new disruptive edits spreading the problem from 1 article to expunging every mention of the person's accurate name from every article mentioning her on en.wp. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:05, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Right, a few pointers:
  1. Your use of the words "non-admin" has no effect: I have already said to PBS somewhere that the policy/essay on policies WP:NAC specifically recommends non-admins wanting to help to help out on WP:RM requested moves as opposed to XFds, as shown by the following lines- In general, XfDs other than AfDs and RfDs are probably not good candidates for non-admin closure, except by those who have extraordinary experience in the XfD venue in question. If there is a serious backlog on one of these venues, consider asking a very familiar admin who closes many of this type of discussions for their advice. Many of these venues have complicated criteria to consider, employ complicated templates, require additional logging elsewhere, or require the use of bots to run jobs to complete the tagging or other cleanup tasks that are required. If a non-admin closes such a discussion and does not take all of the steps, it can create a mess.

Moving a page generally does not require administrator permissions. Although requested move discussions are conventionally closed by administrators, it is also sometimes appropriate for non-admins to close requested moves. See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions#Non-admin closure. And yes, I did miss out a chunk on FfDs, but you can have a look at that in your own time! The admin Amatulic agrees, where on the move review for Hillary Rodham Clinton Amatulic says The discussion about admin vs non-admin closure made me curious about the admin consensus, although as correctly pointed out, admins are no more authoritative than anyone else in closing these discussions. The recently promoted-to-admin BDD said on my talk page: I made dozens of RMNACs myself before becoming an administrator a few weeks ago., which you can see on my first archive. If you wish for me to elaborate, do say, as I am sure I could write an essay on this subject, but do not wish to waste your precious time.

  1. And the edits are allowed- the move review said as such, where the consensus was reached with all voting saying my decision was the right one to make. If there was a move review review, you are welcome to ask for one! If some people refuse to accept the move review result, so be it- people are entitled to voice their opinion.
  2. 100s of edits is a overstatement to say the least.
  3. In fact, I'm not surprised that you've over exaggerated, seeming as that the bottom phrase beginning with "on the contrary" could be the poster for conflict of interest- you were the one that started the requested move, so of course you had to completely make the last phrase into a drama series.

Right, my fingers are hurting, so I'll stop there, but please read the above and ask questions! jcc (tea and biscuits) 14:22, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

That was for information. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:42, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@In ictu oculi: ??? Clarify? jcc (tea and biscuits) 14:44, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
I informed you of this for information. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:46, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@In ictu oculi: And then I took offence of the text that you posted with the link- have you read the my second message yet (the long one) as I hope that typing was not in vain! jcc (tea and biscuits) 14:49, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes I see what you've written above. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:59, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@In ictu oculi: Just out of interest, I've got two completely unrelated questions- would you accept my argument above and what's your views on WP:Visual editor? jcc (tea and biscuits) 15:02, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Sorry but I don't know what argument above you are referring to that could be accepted or not accepted. Personally I found the new Visual editor extremely difficult. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:07, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@In ictu oculi: The one I made regarding non-admin closure- you don't have to answer, but I'd like to know! Thanks for your view on WP:Visual editor- do you find you're using it? jcc (tea and biscuits) 15:09, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, really I don't know. Personally I think the current guidance on closes is clear enough. I am not using Visual Editor, no. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:21, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

{{unindent|I got pinged, so I thought I'd comment. It wasn't me who closed the Hillary Rodham Clinton discussion, it was Amatulic (and we're admins but not bureaucrats). I did close the Ana Ivanovic move review; I didn't find Jcc's original close out of line nor was there consensus to overturn it. It is obvious to uninvolved editors that the persistent bickering and wiki-lawyering at the article has created a situation where no change is likely to emerge.--Cúchullain t/c 15:10, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

@Cuchullain: Sorry! What's your views on Visual Editor if you don't mind? Corrected. jcc (tea and biscuits) 15:14, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure if I'm just not used to it yet, but I find it to be a real pain so far. I don't use it.--Cúchullain t/c 15:36, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
If I may chime in, the visual editor seems nice for newbies to make content edits, but I find it to be useless (maybe because I don't know how to use it) for any work in articles that involves Wikicode, like tagging, disambiguating links, referencing, etc.
So I avoid it. But that's just me. When I build web pages, I work with raw HTML rather than a page editor. I prefer working directly with the source code if possible, so I prefer the original wiki source editor. ~Amatulić (talk) 17:34, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@Amatulic: Thanks for that- imagine if you just came onto Wikipedia now, a complete newbie- would you want a VisualEditor and would the advanced selections in Visual Editor take just as long to learn as in WikiMarkup or not? Thanks for your opinion! jcc (tea and biscuits) 17:38, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Hard to say. Complete newbies have been doing OK for all these years without the visual editor. I think if I were a complete newbie, I'd appreciate having the visual editor at first. It's good for basic content editing and formatting where you don't have to memorize source code. One can add transclusions (tags) too, but you have to know what they are and their parameters, so once I get to the point where I need to tag something, but I'd quickly abandon the Visual Editor. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:07, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Sandbox and new template

Hello Jcc, I need some help with my sandbox. Not sure if you'll be able to help, but I cant seem to figure out how to use the teahouse either!!

My sandbox shows an article I created and was accepted. How can I move it from there. The sandbox would be a place where I can play around with stuff right?

Also How do I make a new template?

Hope you can help or point me in the right direction!

Mentabolism (talk) 11:57, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

@Mentabolism:Right then...
  1. When you submitted your article for submission, your sandbox was redirected to your submission, like a page move. However, while a redirect might be useful for moving a Wikipedia article from one name to another, it is not this way with your sandbox once your submission has been accepted. I've now removed the redirect!
  2. Wikipedia:Article wizard/Template will set up the basic formatting for you. Where you place the template depends on how much it will be user- if you think it'll be used by other users, begin the title with Template: and if you think it will be used by only you, begin the title with something like User:Mentabolism/Template: . For the code, you can copy snippets of code you want from existing templates, or ask someone to code it for you. For example, if I wanted a menu, I might go and copy some formatting from Template:Welcome menu. If you can't find the code you need from existing templates, Help:Template is an excellent read. Also, what's the matter with the Teahouse? I hope that helps, jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:23, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

@Jcc: thank you for removing the redirect and the wizard! Mentabolism (talk) 21:33, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

GA review

Hey JCC, as of your last note on the recruitment page [2], you never told me what GA you wanted to review. Have you done one that I need to look at? Let me know; if you're too busy, we can just close out the recruitment. You're a fairly active editor, so I'm not sure how much you need this kind of mentoring, anyway. If I don't hear back about it, I'll go ahead and close it out by the end of the weekend. Good luck! Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:45, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Help test better mass message delivery

Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)

For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)

You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}} parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}} or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.

If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:18, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

GA recruitment

Jcc, first off, I'm sorry that I've been so neglectful these days. Are you still interested in continuing? I saw that the article I suggested that you review, Spock Must Die!, had been reviewed, assumed that it was you, and then I forgot about it completely. This morning, I was doing some clean-up, and I saw that you indeed did not review it. October's been a crazy-busy month. Let me know, and I can choose another article for you to review. One word of advice when dealing with me: I always have lots going on, in all areas of my life, so it helps if you remind of my obligations. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:58, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Freaky Bug?

Hi, I have had to remove one of your edits here User talk:Meeeeeeee39 on 2nd November 2013. Every time I added something it inserted my name "Hi I'm Dainamo" into where it had previously said "Hi I'm Hausterbot" There may be a simple explanation I do not understand, but I couldn't leave something that was attributing it was me writing it, but it would als be rude of me not to inform you of removing your entry on a talk page. Would you know what is going on here? Dainamo (talk) 18:31, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/How-To Geek, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 02:05, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jcc. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "How-To Geek".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/How-To Geek}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 22:02, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 3DFLOW

Hello JCC,

i added the page because i saw it as a red link from the photogrammetry list. I'm new to wikipedia and i want to contribute. Can you explain to me why one company should have a page while another shouldn't? most of the software listed is old and isn't up to date with the state of the art. Do you think it would be better to have a software specific page, rather than the company page? Or should i expand the page and cite the scientific papers and go in depth to their contribution to the photogrammetry state of the art ?

thank you

Potatowned (talk) 09:07, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

The problem is just because something is on the list that you mentioned doesn't mean that it is notable. I would definitely go with the product page rather than the company page and cite any awards etc. that it has got given, thus proving that it is notable. However, you might as well keep the company page but try and make it more neutral. Feel free to ask for any advice! Also, welcome to Wikipedia!jcc (tea and biscuits) 19:16, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

I see! Should i then cite in the company page the scientific papers rather than the actual products or keep both? What do you think i should change to make it more neutral? Potatowned (talk) 08:14, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Politically sensitive edits...

Hai I come India and in my region most of us are not comfortably making edits(which have credible references and links) on political/politicians sites... Is there some method by which we can send these data's & links to a more experienced user, who can add them to the wiki article and lock them so that the data will not be constantly removed? This will make such wiki articles easier to edit and rid the dislike to touch politically hot topics amongst users.

Vajramh (talk) 06:23, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Try asking someone via the WP:Teahouse, a very friendly place where experienced users help new editors (like helping you add it and checking through the references and helping your edit not be removed). However, you can't "lock" an article so no-one else can use it as that would essentially be ownership of an article (read WP:OWNER). Hope to see you in the Teahouse! jcc (tea and biscuits) 22:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Galastel - Seeking Adoption

Hi JCC. I don't know if that's the right place to ask, I'm new to wikipedia, and I'd like to be more active, so I'm looking for adoption. I want to write about Israel: about culture, places, and current events. I'd appreciate any help with this. Israeli current events is a rather hot subject, with people having very strong opinions, so it's very important to me to do it right.--Galastel (talk) 09:56, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid that I'm rather inactive these days, but try going onto here and asking someone (via their talk page) that has "Currently accepting adoptees" on top of their names whether they'd "adopt" you. It's great to see you jumping straight into Wikipedia; I'm really sorry that I just don't have the time now to adopt anyone new! jcc (tea and biscuits) 21:28, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. That's no problem. I'll try asking somebody else then.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Connie Beauchamp, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NHS. Rollback granted

Hi Jcc/Archive 3. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Coffee // have a cup // beans // 20:06, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

03:37:10, 10 January 2016 review of submission by A N Geetha

hello last night i spent lot of time and created a wikipedia for Mr. T N suresh kumar, morning i saw declined.totally disappointed.kindly help me to create the same i have done in sandbox help me to create the wikipedia for Mr. T N suresh kumar

@A N Geetha: Ok, good for you. Unfortunately, the article you wrote was not encyclopedic or neutral, and the structure and formatting was all over the place, and you had no references, which is a big no when you are talking about living people. As the first Indian to have gone into the stratosphere (or "the edge of space"), he is definitely notable and so I took the time this morning to copy-edit your article for you and add references (because I'm kind like that). All you have to do now is resubmit it but where did you get your images from? I refuse to believe that you are Sureshkumar's personal photographer, and I am near certain that some of these images are copyright violations (translations of this page are available in difference languages if you look on the left under "languages"). Please before resubmitting tell me where you got those images from. You cannot copy and paste images onto Wikipedia. If you know Mr Sureshkumar personally and he has given you permission, you need to email OTRS (again translations of this page are available) basically saying "Mr Sureshkumar has given me permission to upload these images under CC-BY-SA-4" or whatever license you used. jcc (tea and biscuits) 10:04, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Lonnie B. White

Hello and thank you for such a speedy response ! I have resubmitted the page this morning to include in-text citations for all of the references listed. I originally anticipated extra days to submit them due to the number of articles currently waiting for review. I have included original posts and citations from newspaper articles, along with a list of announcements from news posts that reported the author's (my husband's) passing without mentioning his background or any of his accomplishments. Although he died in a town that was not his birthplace, I feel strongly that he is a notable person worthy of coverage. The newspaper sources that documented his life as a quarterback were published by the Asbury Park Press from 1981-1982 prior to joining the Los Angeles Times as a reporter. Notable stories that he has covered during his 21 years as a reporter are not covered in the biography. Please review the article as I welcome any comments or suggestions for improvement. Also, his heritage dates back to the 1400's and includes France, the West Indies and the United States. I feel this area would require a substantial amount of additional research to confirm the reports or substantiate pedagogical relationships. - K. White

@Friends of Luck 82: Ok, no problem! Unfortunately, you added your references incorrectly: it should basically go: "<ref>REFERENCE</ref>", whereas you forgot the / on the </ref> after your reference. This is why I feel that you should enable Visual Editor which does this all automatically: click here: Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing and uncheck Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta, and save your preferences and where "edit source" was before, a new "edit" button will pop up. Trust me, it will make your life so much easier! I have fixed your references for you; but I do feel that your submission may be declined as a) it's really long- condense it down a bit as it does read like an autobiography and b) you need to split it into sections (example as follows):

==Section Title==
text text text
==New Section Title==
etc. etc. etc.

Good luck, and again, I cannot stress how much easier Visual Editor makes it! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:01, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

19:50:44, 12 January 2016 review of submission by Wrightachris1

Hi, is there an outline model I could follow to improve the submission?

@Wrightachris1: Yes, just look at any Wikipedia article and learn how to format the articles, or better still, enable and use Visual Editor. For examples of articles to base it around, there's a great category of articles here: Category:United States Navy officers and particularly perhaps best for your article, here: Category:United States Navy chaplains. Base your article around them, but really, the main issue with your article was it needs to be split into sections and you need to demonstrate your subject's notability. Good luck, and do ask again if you need any more advice. jcc (tea and biscuits) 21:42, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

This is an article about an Indian writer from early 1900s. As he lived and worked in a period prior to the internet there are no many internet references available. Though there are references in newspaper archives, they are only available based on log in or becomes obsolete after a period of time. Please suggest a solution.

Draft of Carlos Collazo

Hi Jcc,

I hope all is well with you. I resubmitted my work on the Collazo Draft:Carlos Collazo article for review. I believe that I was able to provide substantive references where possible and I omitted areas that I am still researching but can add later. If you have time, can you please review the latest draft and advise accordingly. I would like to get it published and then continue adding and improving. Many thanks for your great help and advice.TimeMist (talk) 18:37, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm great, thanks, how are you doing? I've accepted the article, even though I'm sure that there some conflict of interest or some other rule, but AfC's under backlog again. I however do think that all the external links look really spammy; definitely replace them with references or just get rid of them (e.g. in the sections "Additional Technology Companies" and "MARSYS and the MARSYS GROUP"). Also, I think last time I advised you to get Mr Collazo to email OTRS; I can see that your original image was deleted as you didn't, so well done for replacing it, although I have edited your image as OTRS requests need an additional template (and did the email state the license "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0" (CC-BY-SA-4) explicitly?). In your section beginning "Collazo's patented technologies...", get rid of the long list of companies there, replace it with: "Collazo's patented technologies have been referred, cited and applied in over 55 patents by many of the world's leading technology companies including industry leaders such as Hewlett-Packard and Intel." I hope that this helps. jcc (tea and biscuits) 20:30, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jcc, I am hanging in there, doing some traveling this week. I hope you weren't caught in that blizzard in NE USA! I greatly appreciate you accepting my first article! Thank you for your help. I am learning and applying to become better. I will work some more on this article to improve it as you have suggested. Regarding the OTRS, I did not send them an email, but Mr. Collazo did. The email did not explicitly state "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0" (CC-BY-SA-4)". Do I need to have it resent? Please let me know if I can help you (don't know in what). I am very excited aboy having my first article and it is thanks to your help!TimeMist (talk) 23:47, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi TimeMist, somewhat fortunately I actually live in England, where it just tends to rain. You will need to ask Mr Collazo to resend that email as you put a CC-BY-SA-4 license when you uploaded the picture. Well done for the hard work you put in! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:13, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi JCC,

I'm not sure at this point why this article is not approved. We have provided many authentic and independent references. Also the same information on the article is already approved many times on Wikipedia with less independent references. Could you please review it again for us. Thanks.

@Haiticinema2016: It's hard to tell which references are relevant- you should footnote them in the article, see WP:Referencing for beginners. At the moment it seems like you are just pasting links to any websites that vaguely mention your association- delete the ones that aren't relevant and only have a passing mention to the association. jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:12, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Adding Ping and user templates

Hoy, I saw you added a ping to Mike and Nyttend to my message. I don't mind much, although I doubt Mike will suddenly change his mind when I tell him the same thing for the 5th time. But those pings won't work , so I've removed them. If the other admins think others have been notified, they will be even less inclined to do something. Mike is convinced his block is right, and I don't want to ask Nyttend to revert another decision by Mike. I'll ping the other checkusers next time. the pings won't work because:

no signature was added in that edit.
they were aded to existoing lines instead of new lines.
there are a few other conditions for pings to work, see: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Echo#Technical_details Prevalence 00:34, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Request on 22:20:20, 3 March 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Wrightachris1

Hello, I am asking for an updated review of the revised article, with detailed feedback as to why it may be rejected, along with details related to corrective actions to be taken. I would like to see Wiki introduce some outline formats where the submitter is required to fill in the blanks. It has been very frustrating at first, trying to figure out what to do to address general comments rather than specifics required to fix the submission. However, that said, I am now at this point, where I think that the submission is well documented and formatted(without an outline). Please feed back to me as I have two additional biographies to submit once I finally get this one right. I also have several personal and several Wikisource photos. How do I go about uploading them, assuming we get approval on a biographical sketch?

I thank all of you for your work.

Wrightachris1 (talk) 22:20, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi,
I do agree with you, AfC can be a particularly daunting place, where general comments are just handed out without any specifics. I think that MatthewVanitas has helped a bit with your first line; write a quick one-sentence explanation of what he's famous for. See WP:Lead section for ideas. With regards to the rest of your article, the external links inside the text would be better formatted as references, see WP:REFSTART or I would encourage you to enable and use Visual Editor which is basically like Microsoft Word and makes adding in line citations a lot easier. If I may, I will give an example of what I meant by a section which should be copyedited:

Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Lieutenant, in 1893. Aboard the training ship U.S.S. Portsmouth from November 14th, 1893, to January 2nd, 1895. Aboard the U.S.S. Minneapolis from January 3rd to November 30th, 1896. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Franklin from May 15th, 1897, to March 18th, 1900. Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Lieutenant Commander, in 1898. Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Commander, on March 3rd, 1899. Aboard the U.S.S. New York from March 21st to November 2nd, 1900. Aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts from November 2nd, 1900, to May 13th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Wabash from June 1st to July 6th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Puritan from July 9th to November 16th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Lancaster from November 16th, 1903, to March 31st, 1907. Ordered to Washington to participate in the “Alger Board” with purpose to urge the increase in the number of Chaplains, and increase their pay to rank. Testified at the 2nd

This is not really prose, and should be rewritten e.g. In 1893, Wright was promoted to Chaplain, equivalent to (?) the rank of Lieutenant. I'm not really sure what to do with all your "abroad the ship XYZ from A to B", as I think they could be summarised e.g. "between ABC to DEF, he joined the ships X, Y and Z, becoming commander in Z." The real problem I have however, is demonstrating that Wright is notable. I urge you to read Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Notability guide- this is the criteria in which I am evaluating Wright against, and at the moment, I'm struggling to see how he passes this.

Now, I am thinking that Wikipedia "reviewers" are not reading the articles which they are reviewing.

Here is the answer to your points:

Notability: Kaleem Haider Sharar is "Notable" for being a Popular Urdu Language Poet, Author and Writer lived in Mumbai area of Maharashtra Province in India.

Verification:

2 book reference already given inline in article and other news paper article references

I have provided reference to 2 books along with news papers references (with publication details and dates as well as links to public library) as reliable sources, which is valid reliable source as per Wikipedia Verifiablity Guidelines and also significant coverage about Kaleem Haider Sharar.

Recently, another book named "Pursa" [ISBN:9789383239313] on popular Urdu Poets of Mumbai is also premiered last week, which also has an article on "Kaleem Haider Sharar". Now you tell me what else can be provided.

Hi Jcc. I wrote most of this entry a while ago. There were interesting developments in this story, and I was planning an update. In the process, I noticed that a couple of pics were removed. No copyright violations (evidence filed in court and widely published). Any idea what the reason was? Joseph Zernik (not working from my computer, and can't log in) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.203.37.197 (talk) 09:02, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Joseph,

It would appear User:TakahashiMisaki5 removed the images along with some chucks of text. You can add them back in if you feel that they are important; or ask Takahasi why he/she removed the images, but I'm not convinced they'll answer, since it was their first edit on Wikipedia.

Thanks,
