welcome to Wikipedia (sorry this is a month late by the way)

[edit]

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

  • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
  • The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
  • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
  • You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
  • Several of our members monitor the #wikipedia-en-help connect IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
  • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
  • The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.

Once again, welcome to the project. Dfrr (talk) 22:49, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change in your user rights

[edit]

Your Wikipedia account was previously granted a user right called "course instructor" by the Wiki Education Foundation. That right enabled you to create a course page through the EducationProgram MediaWiki extension. Starting in fall 2015, the Wiki Education Foundation has discontinued its use of this extension. Going forward, users should create course pages through the Wiki Education Foundation website. That application is more user-friendly, and any content is automatically mirrored to Wikipedia. To prevent confusion, we'll be removing your "course instructor" user right, as it is not needed with the new system. This is simply a notification of the technical change to your account. No action is needed from you at this time.

If you plan on teaching with Wikipedia for the fall 2015 term, please email me (helaine@wikiedu.org) for instructions how to create your next course page using our new system. --Helaine (Wiki Ed) (talk), sent by MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:34, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Course-assigned talk page comments seen as maybe disruptive

[edit]

Hi Julia,

As you're the instructor for WP:Wiki_Ed/CSUCI/Ethics_for_a_Free_World_(Fall_2016) I thought you might like to know that at least one experienced editor at Talk:Ethics seems to find the influx of article evaluations as assigned in your second week of the course somewhat disruptive, as he had quickly moved them all off the main talk page into the archive. I've moved them back and tried to put them into a subsection of their own to help contain things, but at first glance I found the kind of comments being posted to be... well, not very constructive, myself. Nothing malicious or anything, but... quite obviously school essays evaluating the article like a reading assignment, and not very much like useful Wikipedia talk page comments. I'm not sure what the best response to the situation is from a Wikipedia standpoint, and for this term of your course the easiest thing for us is probably just to ride out the evaluations and then archive them in the near future, but perhaps you might have some ideas that could help for future courses. Just thought I should bring the situation to your attention. --Pfhorrest (talk) 07:18, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
