Fair use rationale for Image:Simbin-studios-logo.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Simbin-studios-logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image source problem with Image:Nfsps-cover-nfsplanet.png
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Nfsps-cover-nfsplanet.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Do not remove the license
I have got the permission from petrogylph to post this image here in wikipedia. Here is what the message from Ted Morris from petrogylph have said :-
Hey!
Go right ahead and put the box up on there. I’m not 99% sure it is the final version, but that’s okay. We really appreciate you helping out!
Chris will be in contact with you when he gets back from an overseas trip sometime next week.
Thanks!

Thank you. --SkyWalker 17:34, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi! I'm just trying to help. I uploaded a new version of the image which is downsampled to fit the infobox precisely, and with all the correct information about copyright. Nothing personal but, you saying you got permission isn't good enough, there need to be some external independant source. And besides even if you got permission, you still must specify fair use rationale. --MrStalker talk 17:47, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- I understand. What sort of external independent sources do you want?. I thought of speaking with sega about this but then waiting for sega response would be very long. So i decided to speak with mike and then later he referred me to Jeff Morris. Who said iam free to post this image to wikipedia. I don't want to disturb them with more email because they busy with universe at war. I will see if i can talk with community manager Chris. --SkyWalker 18:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Comment: Independant source was a bad chose of words. What I meant was an official confirmation. --MrStalker talk 11:31, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I have looked into it, and it seems like it doesn't matter even if you have permission and have the source to verify it, read here and here. Copyrighted media is not allowed on wikipedia by permission only. However, in this case it's fair use, which is allowed, if a fair use rationale is provided. --MrStalker talk 21:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- That material is not copyrighted. When did i say it is copyrighted?. I have contacted community manager to look at the image and to provide the basic information needed. I will removing your image from uaw article. --SkyWalker 02:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

- I feel that perhaps I haven't been clear enough. I'm not an expert on this subject, but here's the deal: The cover art of Universe at War: Earth Assault is the property of Petroglyph Games and is most likely copyrighted by them. If not, they, not anybody else, should upload it themselves under a free license. If it is indeed copyrighted, which it surely is, there still is no problem since the use of the image on wikipedia would qualify for fair use of U.S. law. However, and this is the part you're missing, any fair use images on wikipedia must have a fair use rationale that explaines why the image is allowed under that law. Besides, I didn't upload a new image just because of this, but also because it's preferable to keep the image just as big as required by its purpose, which is to be in the infobox. Fair use requires the image to be low-res. --MrStalker talk 14:31, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have asked a admin to speedy delete the image. Thank you. --SkyWalker 18:30, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. You have to excuse me for not being clear enough in the first place. You see I don't know all rules of wikipedia by heart but I'm trying. There is a lot of them. Btw, for a uploader to request deletion, just place {{db-author}} on the page. --MrStalker talk 18:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of Need for Speed characters
List of Need for Speed characters, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that List of Need for Speed characters satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Need for Speed characters and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of List of Need for Speed characters during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Guy (Help!) 09:36, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

FC Gothia -- Google wasn't that friendly
I did Google, only got 19 hits, and the first links I found only referred to an amateur club way down the pyramid. I also took a swing over to the UEFA site, since a major merger involving top-division clubs, including one which was in European competition this year, would likely get coverage there. Nothing. I looked for info on the Wikipedia pages of the involved clubs. Nothing. I would have thought that such a major merger would have generated more hits--in fact, since this was apparently only just announced, there hasn't been time for it to do so.
I apologize for not digging far enough to reach the cited (non-English) source, and for hastily tagging it as a hoax, but I did do some homework, and given the lack of sources in the first version of the article and all of the above, I don't think I was quite as far out of line as you seem to think I was. Take care. --Finngall talk 20:58, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Bot logs and AWB
Please don't modify bot logs like Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Strategy game articles by quality log, as it's important to note exactly which page the bot is referring to. Additionally, the 1.0 bot already notes page moves and as such, the log will be updated accordingly. Thank you.

Tacitus (Command & Conquer)
I can't delete the Tacitus (Command & Conquer) article because it deletes the page edit history with it. The GFDL requires acknowledgement of all contributors, and editors continue to hold copyright on their contributions unless they specifically give up this right. Hence it is required that edit histories be preserved for all major contributions until the normal copyright expires. See Help:Moving_a_page#Wikipedia-specific_help. Please use the move tab if there is consensus. Also, please read through Help:Moving a page. -- Jreferee T/C 19:00, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Speedy deletion
Hi, in fact I'm trying to figure out what you are willing to do. If you're trying to undo the last move, a discussion with the user that made the move might be best, in order not to endless revert war on the page's name. See WP:RM. -- lucasbfr talk 10:40, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

- Okey, excellent. While you're at it, move the talk page too :P --MrStalker talk 10:46, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- The talk page has been moved, and in future please use {{db-move|page to be moved here}} so the admin knows what needs moving there and can perform the move for you (the target page is automatically deleted during the move). Thanks, mattbr 14:41, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okey, good. I didn't even know there was any parameters in the {{db-move}} template. It doesn't say a word about it in any documentation. --MrStalker talk 14:45, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm opposed to your moving of Age of Empires to this location. Age of Empires refers to the game, rather then the series, in the vast majority of circumstances, in my experience. Please consider reverting the move, or at least raising the issue at a suitable WikiProject. Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 00:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- We are currently discussing a possibility of a general guideline on this issue, however, any clear consensus hasn't been reaced yet. In my opinion, the Age of Empires series is more notable then the first video game, and thus should the article about the first video game have a disambiguation. --MrStalker talk 07:35, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry i thought the DS cover was PNG, shows i never looked.
Just a few things i thought id point out to you.
- Consider uploading the covers and PNG format as they don't contain artifacts and have lossless compression, information on this is here: PNG. JPEG's should be used for images with photographic qualities.
- Fair use images should be uploaded of as smaller resolution as possible, you only need 256px for a cover. For example restricting a 300px image to 256px, doesn't get as good of quality as one thats already 256px. So upload your images as 256px to start with.
Thanks, Salavat 05:29, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the info, but I already know that. All cover images I've uploaded are in 256px. PNG is not ideal for use on Wikipedia, since PNG is not fully supported by all (older) browsers, and above all, Internet Explorer doesn't show PNG as intended. Thanks. --MrStalker talk 12:40, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- PNG files also get unnecessarily large when compared to the same file in JPG with almost as good quality. Besides, fair-use images are not supposed to be very high quality. --MrStalker talk 15:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- I wasnt aware of the PNG problem with browsers, i will still upload png's though, but i wont notify anyone else about them. Thanks for the info. Salavat 15:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. --MrStalker talk 15:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

- You might want to check out the tags I placed on the page of the image you uploaded for explaination. It says "This non-free media file should be replaced with a smaller version to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and United States copyright law. According to Wikipedia's policy for non-free content, the amount of copyrighted work used under fair use should be as little as possible. In particular, non-free media on Wikipedia should not be usable as substitutes for the original work. A high-resolution non-free image is considered a copyright violation and may be deleted". Myst Franchise Template
I beg to differ - without these companies, there would have been no Myst Franchise at all, or (in cases such as GameTap) it would have ended prematurely. What is your reasoning behind stating that they're not part of the franchise - to my mind, they're integral. TheIslander 17:12, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- They are the companies behind the franchise, they're not a part of it. Check other templates for reference. --MrStalker talk 17:14, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Could you point me to some examples? Myst is pretty much the only computer game I follow, so wouldn't know where to look. I see the point you are making, but still feel that the companies behind a fanchise should be noted on the template of said franchise. TheIslander 17:16, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm. I still feel that it's a valid inclusion, however you're certainly right in stating that no others seem to have it (which I think is a shame). To stay consistent, I clearly won't be re-adding them. Cheers, TheIslander 17:23, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nfsps girls.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Nfsps girls.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
