Your questions

[edit]

Sorry for the late response. Regarding the Demis images, are you sure these are in the Public Domain? I have browsed their website and could not find any information about this. There is currently no PS-Demis copyright tag either (see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Public domain)To upload a new version of an image, for example for Image:Volga-BalticWaterway.PNG, simply scroll all the way down and in the section named File History there is a link called "Upload a new version of this file". You will still receive a warning saying that the file already exists but you can still upload the new one. Next time you visit the image page, you will be able to see both files listed in the file history section but only the newest would be visible as an image. Hope this helps, if you have more questions just let me know. E Asterion u talking to me? 10:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly the info I needed on uploading a new image version. I think I remember reading that now, but there is just so much info to absorb in Wikipedia 'Help', so many places you can go (and then have been), its easy to get lost, thank you for returning me to the path :-).
In regard to PD-Demis, a copyright template exists at the Wikipedia Common. I'm a bit of a copycat (I learned how to indent this text from observing your talk edit-page), and I first found the 'demis' copyright info and links at an image used in Wikipedia article 'Lake Ladoga'. I hope the simple problem is I don't know how to link/refer to a Wikipedia commons image copyright template when I am uploading an image. I now see as well that there is something funny about the Wikipedia "Image:La2-demis-ladoga.png" I was 'learning' from, as the Image tab is in red text, and when I try to Edit (tab) it, it says there is no image there. I know I have a lot to learn, and am striving still to get a proper overview by reading all the relevant Wikipedia 'help' articles, but for now I will retain the images I've uploaded based on the (non-)copyright info for demis contained at the wikipedia common, unless you object. I've added a link to the template page on my image page (I'm learning a little bit at a time). If the content there is okay, and its simply a matter of knowing how to connect to that template, please let me know how to do this. Jauntymcd 19:23, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jauntymcd,
Yes, no problem. I also prefer to keep all Q&A together. I can keep your talkpage on watch. Not to worry. Also copycat is the best way to learn, I agree ;-)
About your question, you are not doing anything wrong. The problem is that the {{demis-pd}} template is not available in en.wikipedia, only in commons.wikimedia. I have since created a template under the same name. However, considering that the maps you are uploading have universal value, it would be better if you upload them to commons instead. This way, they are available for the English wikipedia and also all the other language versions (i.e. Spanish, Dutch, German,...) You would need to open an account in Commons if you do not have one yet. About adding the license information, as this is not listed in the drop down menu, simply fill in all the other information and upload the file. Then immediately click on the "edit" tab and add {{demis-pd}} to the bottom. That should work fine. Let me know if it does. E Asterion u talking to me? 00:01, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
