Discussion about ARB 04
Hi User:Jasper Deng Can you explain what is this url: https://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tcdat/tc2020/IO/IO032020/txt/trackfile.txt?? Beraniladri19🌀🌀 (talk) 06:01, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Beraniladri19: This is the operational best track of the storm maintained by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, which gives the intensities they intend to use in their warnings 3 hours later (so in this case, 90 knots is what they currently intend to issue in their 9z warning). Since JTWC (but not CPHC and NHC) never deviates from this, we always use it even before the warning itself is issued.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:04, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Message from KMTRAGER
Let me explain the volume of 1815 Tambora eruption was more intense than the original estimate volume (160-180 cubic kilometers) that I made. But the volume of 1815 Tambora ash was 150-213 cubic kilometers from contemporary evidence, and might have yielded far lesser thicknesses if measured in the outcrops some time after the eruption (Self et al., 1984). If so the eruption was of VEI-7 ranking it one of the largest holocene explosive eruption comparable to other large holocene explosive eruptions. This is the source that I've found http://www.kscnet.ru/ivs/bibl/vulk/kuozero/Pon-KurileLake.pdf KMTRAGER (talk) 16:20, 13 January 2021 (UTC) KMTRAGER (talk) 16:38, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Issue with the track maker
Hello there. I am Danilo Evangelista and I want to bring up an issue that i was hoping for someone to help me fix with the track maker on my windows 7. Apparently i am having a problem with makefile when compiling the track however when it comes to the prerequesities i have installed, make, autoconf, automake, gcc, cairo, pkg-config everything i need to make the track maker work. And i did try the backup command and that too does not work. I would like gudiance and help on the track maker if there is anything else i should try out or get to make the track maker work. Thanks ~~Danilo Evangelista — Preceding undated comment added 21:34, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- @DaniloEvan123: “It doesn’t work” is vague and won’t help me with your issue; you have to be much more specific about what error is happening. Also, it will not compile natively on Windows (you need Cygwin or Windows Subsystem for Linux; either way you would not use a vanilla Command Prompt or PowerShell).—Jasper Deng (talk) 04:34, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Jasper Deng: Oh okay sorry. But yes I do use Cygwin as the command prompter. The specific issue is makefile which is being and issue. Every time I would compilie this command would come up in the very end:
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: [Makefile:385: track.exe] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/cygdrive/c/wptc-track-master/tracks' make: [Makefile:288: all] Error 2 I do believe I have all of the prerequesities installed and gcc-g++, however it seems like there is inssue from what i am seeing with "ld". Do you by any chance know how to fix this if there might be something i forgot to install? Thanks.
DaniloEvan123 (talk) 18:21, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- The actual, pertinent, error would be something else.--Jasper Deng (talk) 20:27, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Archiving sources likely to be updated
Thanks for the WS/SF update. That source is just fine, but as a page likely to be updated, it's best to cite an archived copy as a permalink. I usually just save on archive.org if I think a source is likely to ever change. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Pi.1415926535: I guess most government websites are prone to moving the goalposts like this. Again, I wish we had press articles that are less likely to change.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:10, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Typhoon condition and disaster relief
I've noticed that you have been busy with looking after the typhoon situation lately. The Yuzuru article is ready for review has been put on hold since last week-end seven days ago. If you would like us to put a hold on the arcticle and its review for another week or two then let us know for how long you will need for the typhoon condition article. ErnestKrause (talk) 13:32, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- @ErnestKrause: I will review it tonight. I have not had the full hour I need to do it justice and will not for another 3 hours or so.--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:01, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Your note on the article size just came through, and could you add a short comment on the review page about what your expectation for page size is at this time? Article is down from 237Kb to about 212Kb. What page size range do you want to see? ErnestKrause (talk) 17:57, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Peer review on Yuzuru Hanyu Olympic seasons
Hi, I and Henni147 have made major changes to the article after it was split from the Yuzuru Hanyu main article during its GA process so it can be a standalone article. Since you helped during the GA process, I wonder if you can make some suggestions for the peer review process if you have time, especially on the article's format, flow etc. I think this would be a good start before bringing it to GA nomination once the season ends. I would be so thankful. Regards. - Yolo4A4Lo (talk) 09:04, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Would you consider becoming a New Page Reviewer?
Hi Jasper Deng, I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team, and after reviewing your editing history, I think you would be a good candidate. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users like yourself. Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board. Cheers, and hope to see you around, (t · c) buidhe 22:18, 2 June 2022 (UTC) |
I was blocked by you on Wikidata
Hello @Jasper Deng thank you for your good work on Wikipedia and Wikidata. You inspire us to do more. I sent the message bellow to you on your meta page when i couldnt access Wikidata. The message was sent on 4th of July. Please kindly help. I am not a sock puppet. I am a community leader and also a trainer. I am sorry for the mistake, i never knew the participants were editing the same article. I have not worked since than neither can i continue with my training. Please i apologize and kindly temper justice with mercy. I also sent a message to you on Telegram because i am on the Wikidata telegram group.
Hello @Jasper Deng thank you for your good work on Wikidata. I was blocked on Wikidata because it was seen that i have multiple accounts but unfortunately that is not the case. I don't have multiple accounts, we are doing a training for new participants who are Librarians and that is why you see the multiple edits. We know the rules of Wikipedia and we will never want to vandalise Wikipedia or Wikidata because it is critical to our history.
We are running a training for Wikidata this is the meta page of the training https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiGlam_Awareness_for_Librarians_in_Lagos_States. All participants are new to Wikipedia and Wikidata and they are enthusiastic about contributing. I am one of the facilitators and i was blocked as well, so also Bussybee1812. Reasons: multiple accounts. I don't have multiple accounts, we are only training new participants. This is the block ID(This block (ID #37121) has been set to expire: infinite. The lead of the project sent a message to you but we didn't get any response from you. This is the message sent to you by her

Review needed for FAC
Hi, Jasper Deng.
Last year you reviewed Yuzuru Hanyu for GA which spawned a new article Yuzuru Hanyu Olympic seasons. The article is currently under FAC and in need of reviewers. I would like to invite you to review it if you're interested and have the time. We would really appreciate it. Regards. - Yolo4A4Lo (talk) 00:45, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors
Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.
We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 03:20, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
