Languages of Finland
Thanks for your constructive edit to Languages of Finland. Unfortunately it was reverted by an editor who seems to be editing Wikipedia mainly to push his own nationalistic agenda. I've reinserted your edit and commented upon it at the talk page of the article. Keep up the good work! JdeJ (talk) 02:08, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your support. I am, of course, aware of (and agree with) the exceptional nature of these brackets, but I had hoped the reason for this exception would be clear enough to anyone. -- Jao (talk) 06:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

GA review

You are welcome. If you can, please continue to do so. Use this article as a model for other firearm competitions. Good work. ;)--SRX--LatinoHeat 14:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Floorball
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 2008 ISSF World Cup Final (shotgun), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: 2008 ISSF World Cup Final (rifle and pistol). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 21:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Whitelisting
Shooting one is now done so should be ok. Apologies for the delay - we seem to be short of staff in that area! Cheers --Herby talk thyme 10:38, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Works fine now, great! Thank you, and don't worry about the delay. -- Jao (talk) 10:45, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
re: Ancient revert at Russia and the United Nations
- A reply to a question at Uncle Scrooge's talk page
No problem; the revert was just part of a bigger editorial conflict during which Miyokan removed several sections that didn't fit with his idea of "the history of the Russian Nation", consequently I reverted all of his edits. Please, feel free to remove it ;) Uncle Scrooge (talk) 23:17, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- All right, thank you. -- Jao (talk) 04:53, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Olympic highlights
Hi Jao. I noticed you removed the gymnastics bit from August 12. I added it especially because the US not at all expected to medal, and the Chinese were under extreme pressure to win. Also, if this is not worthy of inclusion in the article, why do we list stuff like, "Norway qualifies for the quarterfinals of the women's football tournament with a 1–0 win over New Zealand" or other seemingly routine scores? Thanks, Fang Aili talk 20:17, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Track template
Just to say good idea about sorting the less important events from the more standard track events. I added a few sprinting ones but the information on them is minimal anyway. Good job. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 13:52, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Trouble with reversions in List of stripped Olympic medals
Jao, I'm not a big Wikipedian, so I'm asking for help in keeping an eye on List of stripped Olympic medals. Someone has twice incorrectly moved Rick DeMont's name from "stripped" to "stripped-and-returned." Would appreciate any help in the matter. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.238.17.164 (talk) 23:59, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I've noticed that bit keeps getting confused. The list is on my watchlist, so I'll revert it as soon as I see it happening, if it happens again. -- Jao (talk) 00:21, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Date formats after autoformatting
With the recent deprecation of date autoformatting, "raw" dates are becoming increasingly visible on Wikipedia. Strong views are being expressed, and even some edit-warring here and there. A poll has been initiated to gauge community support to help us develop wording in the Manual of Style that reflects a workable consensus. As you have recently commented on date formats, your input would be helpful in getting this right. Four options have been put forward, summarised as:
- Use whatever format matches the variety of English used in the article
- For English-speaking countries, use the format used in the country, for non-English-speaking countries, use the format chosen by the first editor that added a date to the article
- Use International format, except for U.S.-related articles
- Use the format used in the country
The poll may be found here, as a table where you may indicate your level of support for each option above. --Pete (talk) 18:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
another example of how wikipedia is annoying
- The context of this is at Talk:Chess/Archive 5#Question here
The game of Chess originated in India. That fact is mentioned in the Chess article. Yet this user, doesnt want the article to start off by saying it origintated from India. No he wants the article to say that the modern version came from southern Europe. ANd the reason he is ok with that, is beucsae he feels it is mentioned that an older version came from Indian and Persian origin........but........there is a difference between saying CHESS CAME FROM INDIA.....and chess came from Indian and Perisan origin. I mean to a user who does not know anything about chess, he/she might say o ok the modern version came from SOuthern EUrope, but origintated from BOTH India and Persia. And that is kind of mis-leading. I mean if chess originated from India, which is a fact used in this article, then that should be mentioned towards the top of the article. I mean there is a HUGE difference between saying something like CHESS CAME FROM INDIA, compared to saying something like THE MODERN VERSION CAME FROM SOUTHERN EUROPE, WHICH CAME FROM INDIAN AND PERSIAN ORIGIN......I mean seroiusly......why not just start it off simply, by saying CHESS CAME FROM INDIA, AND THEN SAY IT CAME TO MODERN EUROPE? AND THEN IF YOU LIKE YOU CAN SAY IT CAME FROM INDIA AND PERSIA. WOULDNT THAT BE MORE FAIR? WOULDNT THAT BE MORE DETAILED? BUT NO, THIS USER DOES NOT WANT TO BE FAIR. THIS USER JAY HAS TO HAVE THE ARTICLE SAY IT CAME FROM MODERN EUROPE, FROM INDIAN AND PERSIAN ORIGIN......BUT HE CANNOT HAVE THE ARTICLE START OFF BY SAYING IT CAME FROM INDIA, WHICH BY THE WAY, THERE IS A SOURCE FOR THAT IN THE CHESS ARTICLE.
I mean for example, if President Bush was born in America, you dont say he was from European Origin, whos partents were born in AMerica. No, you start of by saying HE WAS BORN IN AMERICA, AND THEN YOU GO INTO DETAIL. ARYAN818 (talk) 19:57, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Stalemate
- The context of this is at Talk:Stalemate#Who wrote this?
"So he did. Then I must say I am at a loss for an explanation." I suspect they are the same person. The vandalism was reverted in 1 minute. He would have had to load the page in that minute, and somehow not reload it, and then talk about it several hours later. Bubba73 (talk), 16:23, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
List
- A reply to a query at Darwinek's talk page
Hello Jao. Thanks for your work. I checked the list mainly for Polish, Czech and Slovak names and they are ok. I just edited one name. As for Russian names and differences between Dmitri or Dimitri etc., I would recommend Russian users or notifying Russian Wikipedians' noticeboard. Thanks. - Darwinek (talk) 23:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

August 1, 2003
I was stunned to see the discussion on this closed as "no consensus, default to keep", since very few people suggested an outright keep, and most would have been satisfied with a merge. I honestly don't think the closing administrator paid attention to any of the comments. Regardless of how you felt on this issue-- delete, merge, keep -- I think that everyone's comments showed that a lot of people care about this issue, and "no consensus" was similar to a snub. I've asked for a review, and invite everyone to give their two cents worth at [1]. Best wishes. Mandsford (talk) 23:59, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of Swedish noble families
I have nominated List of Swedish noble families, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Swedish noble families. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
