Rollback

[edit]

Hi. I've looked at your other account that had the name change, and I see you also used it for counter vandalism work. I'm not going to grant rollback at the monent because in general I'd expect to see slightly more uses of WP:UNDO to show you can clearly identify what are good and bad edits. If rollback is misused it can cause a lot of pain and bad feeling. I'm not trying to make you jump through any hoops or anything but perhaps a few days showing some good counter vandalism with undo or simple reverting would be a good idea. Please then feel free to ask me to take a look again. Pedro :  Chat  14:43, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've taken a further look at the counter vandalism efforts you made yesterday and it all seems good, particularly when coupled with the edits from the other account. I've now granted the roolback tool. Please see WP:RBK for full instructions and remember to only use it for clear cut vandalism. Any problems let me know. You didn't cause any trouble; just a little confusion. Next time you change it, leave a reason in the info parameter and sign it. That way, we know that you were not just testing the template as some people sometimes do. EnviroboyTalkCs 07:22, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks to me, since he moved the info to his sandbox, and since he is the only editor to the Gourdinian article (the other edits are just people putting/removing AFD/speedy tags), and since there's an AFD on the article right now, that the user is unfamiliar with Wikipedia policies, and was essentially trying to userfy the page, but didn't understand the proper procedures for that. It doesn't seem to me that level 4 warnings are appropriate, because it doesn't seem to me to be intentional vandalism. Just my two cents, though, and I don't mean to be second-guessing your actions, or whatever... --Miskwito (talk) 16:40, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. Hi Jamesooders - Mader's Cove update

[edit]

I recently added a few brief updates to the "Mader's Cove" page. I was very excited to see that this page existed in the first place, as my family is from nova scotia and its a very small part of canadian history/geography. I added the little bit we know about the area yesterday.

Unfortunately a co-worker of mine saw me viewing that page today and thought it would be funny to edit my post.

Any update referring to “retarded or inbred” locals was his doing.

If it is possible to publish my original update I would be very grateful (so would the east coasters in my family). Just to recap Capt. Mace and David Mader are both “founding fathers” of the community. According to local historians they were friends and Mader did die in his late 20’s apparently from syphilis.

Thank you in advance,

Steve —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.14.169.242 (talk) 13:58, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi James for http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Nochex&diff=prev&oldid=370096125 that was not very clear vandalism, but it was an unhelpful edit. Normally for this sort of thing I would undo this and put "opinion" after the edit summary. You can sign your talk with ~~~~. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 14:43, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You can issue a warning first. If damage is being caused with WP:Rollback it can be revoked. There should be more edit summaries so as to know what is going on. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 14:54, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A look at the IPs contribs are sufficient, I AGF originally, and this user is taking things out of context; no abuse of rollback  – Tommy [message] 16:25, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you just talk about it first on the talk page. The idea is that someone who does not have bad intentions, but has their edit reversed should be able to get a clue as to why, otherwise they will not learn how to improve. Be nice about any kind of warning, because of the WP:AGF (that Tommy mentioned). I have not looked at any of the other contributions so I don't know if there is any kind of real problem. Pussy Pelmet[1]

[edit]

This is a common, and humorous, slang term. If you think it's risqué, then say you are censoring for taste. Do not try to make out my edits were unconstructive". 87.115.49.30 (talk) 15:01, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You left a message for me with the title; "RE: I'm not gonna say the phrase because its not cool".

Then you said, "Firstly, if your going to contribute to Wikipedia, contribute about things with common sense. I dont think many people are going to be really that interested in what you have included in that article."

It sounds to me like you are censoring, not tidying. Your whole tone, as well as your text, says this. It is not your job to censor.

Then you throw in the insult about common sense! Then you try to justify your actions with what you think people will be interested in - how do you know?

Stop censoring under the dishonest guise of anti-vandalism, or whatever other term you have for actual "bad" people trying to spike this project. 87.115.49.30 (talk) 15:30, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • This nonsense about "censoring"--we hear this all the time, and it never amounts to anything. Wikipedia is not a free-speech zone, it is an encyclopedia. Drmies (talk) 15:31, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you hear it all the time, then maybe the problem is you.

An encyclopaedia? Yes, which should describe the knowledge in and of the World. Part of this world is the usage of the term "pussy pelmet". Regardless of whether you find it distasteful, it is used, as your own Google[2] search indicates. It may only be used in the UK, but that is a few million people who understand it. 87.115.49.30 (talk) 15:43, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once again I see more biting from established users to anons just trying to add info. [3] he's right.  – Tommy [message] 15:48, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

James, you said

  • Why are you so persistant to have this phrase injected? As I said I'm not going to stop you but others may. And as I can see from your editing records that this is the only article youve contributed to. My personal Opinion is that its innapropreate. Others may agree to as we tend to see hundreds of editors ding this sort of thing, and as Drmies mentioned, "This nonsense about "censoring"--we hear this all the time, and it never amounts to anything. Wikipedia is not a free-speech zone, it is an encyclopedia.". There are hndreds of thing you could contribute to the thousands of articles on the Wikimedia Project, but this aint one of them. I recognise your effort though and Thankyou

Actually I thought I made some small edit to something a few months ago, but maybe I didn't do it correctly. Anyway.

So you admit that it is a personal opinion on it's suitability. In such a case you should find a policy with which you can justify your censorship, motivated, as you admit, by personal taste.

"persistent to inject" that is the sort of Fox News way of putting it. It was a simple edit now become a pain in the arse because of you two editors who I grow weary with. If you really wish to censor this thing then go ahead. I expect many sensible grown-ups have been put off by children like yourselves. This sensible grown up will not be coming back here again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.115.49.30 (talk) 15:57, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Really, I am trying to assume good faith with you but don't make it difficult. There's no censorship so you can stop with that. I'll readd it if I can find a better site for the term. Thank you.  – Tommy [message] 16:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you undo my redirection of Jamtlandic dialect to Jamtlandic and suggest it was "vandalism"? I have seen your comment at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, and it is clear that you accept that you made a mistake. That is fine. Hi, i'm Kuyapo. I was surprised to be notified by you that I had edited the article on "personal Computer Hardware" and that you had reverted the edit as it was "unconstructive". You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard.

We have a backlog of cases there which need volunteer attention. If you have time available, please take one or more of these cases.

If you do not intend to take cases or help with the administration of DRN on a regular basis, or if you do not wish to receive further notices of this nature, please remove your username from the volunteer list. If you later decide to resume activities at DRN you may relist your name at that time.

Help needed at DRN

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are signed up as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. We have a number of pending requests which need a volunteer to address them. Unless you are an inexperienced volunteer who is currently just watching DRN to learn our processes, please take a case. If you do not see yourself taking cases in the foreseeable future, please remove yourself from the volunteer list so that we can have a better idea of the size of our pool of volunteers; if you do see yourself taking cases, please watchlist the DRN page and keep an eye out to see if there are cases which are ready for a volunteer. We have recently had to refuse a number of cases because they were listed for days with no volunteer willing to take them, despite there being almost 150 volunteers listed on the volunteer page. [edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.

First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.

Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.
