Article of the month – Bruce McLaren, current Start-Class article.
Bruce Leslie McLaren (30 August 1937 – 2 June 1970), born in Auckland, New Zealand, was a race-car designer, driver, engineer and inventor. His name lives on in the McLaren team which has been one of the most successful in Formula One championship history, with McLaren cars and drivers winning a total of 20 world championships. McLaren cars totally dominated CanAm sports car racing with 56 wins, a considerable number of them with him behind the wheel, between 1967 and 1972 (and five constructors’ championships), and have won three Indianapolis 500 races, as well as 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring. As a nine year old, McLaren contracted Perthes disease in his hip which left his left leg shorter than the right. He spent two years in traction, but later often had a slight limp. Les and Ruth McLaren, his parents, owned a service station and workshop in Remuera, Auckland. Bruce spent all of his free hours hanging around the workshop. The McLaren family homestead is located in Ngaruawahia in the Northern Waikato region and still stands today. - I understand that you cannot be with us but I really need to know if there was anyone else involved in the project on the admin side, such as the Assessment Team, as most of the "active members" seem to be inactive completely now.
- I had wondered what was going on with you as I left a couple of messages that you didn't reply to :¬(
- (one was a belated Happy New Year back in Feb lol)
- Anyway if you have time to discuss a small amount over the next week that would be great - I have taken on more cleaning roles in the Ukrainian Portal and project such as using GA tools to check articles and suchlike and thought I would try and update the Robotics project as well.

- Doctorate? lol nah... nowhere close to that... and the thought of someone calling me Dr. Tai would creep me out more than anything. Honestly the Robotics WikiProject was only active for about three months. I tried to carry it as much as possible. However there are standards that I tried to set in order to limit the scope the WikiProject would involve. However, the integration of electronically controlled mechanisms, whether semi- or completely autonomous, we'll need to slowly set what our operating scope is and focus on that before we expand. - It's ok, you can call them bots - I will know that you dont really mean it and they arent really bots lol
- If thats what you thought I meant by GA tools, I do not trust automation too much lmao. The tools were pages on the toolserver where you enter the page names and they check for broken lins and broken url's in the refs. Although semi automated it's about as much autonomy as I could comfortably give away lol. I use it mainly for checking the refs on articles at B-class, GA, A and FA to make sure there are no deadlinks creeping in. I have seen a few problems with bots taking away caps from headers when they shoudn't and renaming refs they think were wrong ...
- I thought you were doing your doctorate - "Dr Tai is an expert in the field of robotics" - sounds great to me :¬)

- I put my name up for it - hopefully I can learn it easily lol. I will look into the robotics project more tomorrow as it's 01:22 here and I have a cpl things to do before bed - was nice to chat with you again though and hopefully I'll get a concise set of questions for you by tomoroow afternoon.
- One thing I can ask you now is why you opted to not have class C articles ? I made an ammendment to the project page to say that "C class is not used apart from ..." but then realised I should have maybe not done that, even though the other editor agreed with me lol User_talk:Robotics1#Industrial_robot_and_ABB_robotics. I will remove the statement about C class or at least amend it to mean "there are some c class but there shoudnt be"
- I noticed other projects do not have A-clss and some don;t have C either so I can see where you were coming from - there must be a way to make the template ignore C and stop them from saving as such.

- The reason I did not include Class C articles because in my mind, a Class C article is unacceptable. When I tagged most of those articles myself, I reviewed the article and they were generally improved before given ratings. Article of the month – McLaren M2B, new Good Article.
The McLaren M2B was the McLaren team's first Formula One racing car, used during the 1966 season. It was conceived in 1965 and preceded by the M2A development car. Designed by Robin Herd, the innovative but problematic Mallite material was used in its construction. The car was powered by Ford and Serenissima engines but both lacked power and suffered from reliability issues. Driven by team founder Bruce McLaren, the M2B had a short Grand Prix career, entering six races and starting only four. It scored the team's first point at the British Grand Prix and two more points at the United States Grand Prix. Work so far
Hi again :¬)
Just a little update - I have done some work and created some tables from the project summaries
I propose to update them every week or two and then paste results in a page
(for the moment they are here Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Robotics/Assessment)
I'll create a separate page if all is ok by you...
I've only managed to do the category "Robot" (and all sub cats) so far as there are a lot of them lol
AWB is a godsend - so I suppose that makes you a god ?!? lmao - now I've got the hang of the basics its so much easier but I have to open each page and check for things like cats until I get a little more au fait with AWBs tools and settings. I then open the talk page if it looks like it should be within the robotics scope and add the template.
I'll carry on like that till all cats done then once established I can look at the unassessed and finally once thats done I can start going through them top down and try and copyedit. Finally, once thats done I can try and start improving some of them and getting merges/splits done etc.
So far so good :¬)

Article of the month – 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix, current Good Article Nominee
The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (formally the XXIII ING Magyar Nagydíj) was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008, at Hungaroring in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary. It was the 11th race of the 2008 Formula One season. Contested over 70 laps, the race was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team, from a second position start. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It marked Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and Glock's first podium finish. Much of the race, however, was dominated by a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Hamilton started from pole position on the starting grid but was beaten at the first corner by Massa, who passed him around the outside. The two championship protagonists began a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton sustained a punctured tyre just over half-way through the race, giving Massa a comfortable lead. The Ferrari's engine, however, failed with three laps of the race remaining, allowing Kovalainen to take the win. Update and stuff that maybe you can do if you can spare an hour ?

Hope all is well with you.
I have got along quite nicely with the updates to the articles. Progress is at progress tables from my Excel data and state of completion of plan. I have done all the ones with "???" in either class or importance and am currently running through the ones with "???" in both class and inportance - Done A up to M and only 280 or so to go.
There is one thing I would really appreciate if you can manage it after work - the Three Laws of Robotics - it was delisted from FA in Dec last year and I really would like to get it back again but cannot find anyone trustworthy enough to go over it and check it. I have left notes and progress on the talk page.
I also fixed the Robotics banner - the assessments weren't working for the "attention=" part. I added the necessary part to the banner and it now works fine :¬)

Article of the month – 2008 Japanese Grand Prix, featured on the Main Page.
The 2008 Japanese Grand Prix (formally the XXXIV Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on October 12, 2008, at the Fuji Speedway, Oyama, Japan. It was the 16th race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 67 laps, was won by Fernando Alonso for the Renault team from fourth position on the starting grid. Robert Kubica finished second for BMW Sauber, and Kimi Räikkönen third for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton, the eventual Drivers' Champion, led the Championship going into the race, and started from pole position alongside Räikkönen. Hamilton's McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen began from third, next to Alonso. At the first corner Hamilton braked late, forcing Räikkönen wide. Hamilton was later given a penalty, and was criticised by the British racing press for overly aggressive driving. Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, Hamilton's principal Championship rival, was penalised after an incident on lap two in which he touched Hamilton's car, causing it to spin. Can you help me?
Hi, I admired your userpage some time ago, and left a message- got a nice response from you. Do you think you could take a look at my Userpage? See if maybe there's a better way to re-arrange it? I'm not a bad editor, but I am an old editor, and honestly, only learned touch-typing, for example, about 15 years ago, and don't know crap about computers, really. My two focuses are editing biographies of musicians (primarily those who leave an impact somehow in the world) and finding and negotiating with photographers to provide for those articles. Other than that, it's all grunt work, building infoboxes, cleanup, tagging, adding references, etc. My poorly kept list of musicians whose photos I've collected I'd like to keep somehow. Another editor made my few barnstars into userboxes and put them on my talk page, and I'd like to somehow use them instead of all the space taken up by the ones in the Userpage now. Would you help me? I have uploaded so many photos re: architecture and musicians and placed them in seven different language Wikipedias, but my primary one is this one. Would you look when you can? - Hey, sorry for not responding earlier... I rarely log in to Wikipedia these days. I wish I had the passion I used to have but I've been pretty busy with other matters. In terms of interior decorating, what I did was to put each section or group of objects into its own user-subpage and then translink it into my main userpage. It sounds like a mouthful but it's just a typical
{{User:Sample/Subpage1}}
insertion. Feel free to take a look at the source code I used and then dig into the subpages a bit if you'd like. You have your userpage laid out in a very different manner than I have it, so before I do any sort of interior decorating for you, I want to talk to you about how you want to rearrange things first. I'll keep Wikipedia logged in and finally I'll enable email notification perhaps... who knows I might actually log in more often lol. - Jameson L. I recently started the Space Coast Wiki. It is a wiki for everything in Brevard County, Florida, including many articles which may not be notable enough for Wikipedia. The illustration of a Prismatic_joint, mistakenly reveals a presumption(?) that the shaft of the prismatic joint is cylindrical, where the far end of the shaft is shown as a semi-circle, instead of a straight line normally produced in the shaft end by the cross-section plane, which might also reveal one or more facets of the shaft facets. The unnecessary, enlarged head of the shaft (near end) hides what should be revealed as a prism.
If you have retired, should I just post this on the website?

- The illustration depicts a prismatic joint that has much of the same properties as other prismatic joint illustrations in many textbooks for mechanical engineers. If you have a better vector illustration graphic that better portrays the joint's abilities and functions, you are welcome to work with the guys at the Graphics Lab to replace the one I made. Article of the month – Brabham BT49, new Good Article
The Brabham BT49 (pronounced /ˈbræbəm/) is a Formula One racing car designed by South African Gordon Murray for the British Brabham team. The BT49 competed in the 1979 to 1982 Formula One World Championships and was used by Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet to win his first World Championship in 1981. The car was initially designed in 1979 as a short notice replacement for the team's Alfa Romeo-engined BT48, after Brabham team owner Bernie Ecclestone decided to end his relationship with the Italian engine manufacturer. The BT49 was created in only six weeks using elements of the BT48 chassis together with the widely used Cosworth DFV engine. It is a single seater with an open cockpit and exposed wheels. The monocoque chassis is made from aluminium alloy and carbon fibre composites. The car was fitted with controversial hydropneumatic suspension and water-cooled brakes at different points in its life. The BT49 was updated over four seasons taking a total of seven wins, six poles and 135 points. Seventeen were eventually built, most of which survive today. Some are used successfully in historic motorsport; Christian Glaesel won the 2005 FIA Historic Formula One Championship driving a BT49D. The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (formally the XXIII ING Magyar Nagydíj) was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008, at Hungaroring in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary. It was the 11th race of the 2008 Formula One season. Contested over 70 laps, the race was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team, from a second position start. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It was Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and was Glock's first podium finish. The majority of the race was dominated by a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Hamilton started from pole position on the starting grid but was beaten at the first corner by Massa, who passed him around the outside. The two championship rivals began a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton sustained a punctured tyre just over half-way through the race, giving Massa a comfortable lead. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, located in Speedway, Indiana (an enclave suburb of Indianapolis) in theUnited States, is the home of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race and the Brickyard 400. It has existed since 1909, and is the original Speedway, the first racing facility historically to incorporate the word. With a permanent seating capacity for more than 257,000 people and infield seating that raises capacity to approximately 400,000, it is the largest and highest-capacity sporting facility in the world. Considered relatively flat by American standards but high-banked by Europeans, the track is a two-and-a-half-mile, nearly rectangular oval with dimensions that have remained essentially unchanged since its inception: four 1/4-mile turns, two 5/8-mile long straightaways between the fourth and first and second and third turns, and two 1/8-mile short straightaways, termed "short chutes," between the first and second, and third and fourth turns. A modern infield road course was constructed between 1998 and 2000, incorporating the western and southern portions of the oval (including the southwest turn) to create a 2.605-mile (4.192 km) track. In 2008, the road course was modified to replace the southwest turn with an additional infield section, for motorcycle use, resulting in a 2.621-mile (4.218 km) course. Altogether, the current grounds have expanded from an original 320 acres (1.3 km2) on which the Speedway was first built to cover over an area of over 559. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987, it currently remains the only such landmark to be affiliated with automotive racing history. In addition to the Indianapolis 500, the speedway also hosts NASCAR's Brickyard 400. From 2000 to 2007 the speedway also hosted the United States Grand Prix for Formula One. The inaugural USGP race drew an estimated 225,000 spectators, setting a Formula One attendance record. In 2008, the Speedway added the Indianapolis motorcycle Grand Prix, a Grand Prix motorcycle racing event. Since August 19, 1909, 248 automobile races have taken place, with 137 separate drivers winning. After winning his fifth United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis in 2006, Formula One driver Michael Schumacher holds the record for most victories between the three major events (Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and theF1 USGP), with all taking place on the Forumula One version of the road course. A. J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears each won the Indianapolis 500 four times on the traditional oval, and Jeff Gordon has also won four times on the oval in the Brickyard 400. No driver to date has won any combination of the three major events, with only one driver, (Juan Pablo Montoya), having competed in all three, winning the Indy 500, finishing fourth in the US Grand Prix, and placing second in the Brickyard 400. Johnny Aitken holds the record for total wins at the track, with 15 victories (all on the oval), during the 1909, 1910 and 1916 seasons. The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (formally the XXIII ING Magyar Nagydíj) was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008, at Hungaroring in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary. It was the 11th race of the 2008 Formula One season. Contested over 70 laps, the race was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team, from a second position start. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It was Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and was Glock's first podium finish. The majority of the race consisted of a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Hamilton started from pole position on the starting grid but was beaten at the first corner by Massa, who passed him around the outside. The two championship rivals began a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton sustained a punctured tyre just over half-way through the race, giving Massa a lead of over 20 seconds over Kovalainen. The Ferrari's engine, however, failed with three laps of the race remaining, allowing the McLaren driver to win. Räikkönen set the race's fastest lap in the other Ferrari, but was hampered by a poor qualifying performance and was stuck behind Alonso and Glock in turn for almost all of the race. As a consequence of the race result, Hamilton extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to five points over Räikkönen, with Massa a further three behind. Robert Kubica, who finished eighth after finding his BMW Sauber car to be uncompetitive at the Hungaroring, slipped to 13 points behind Hamilton, ahead of his team-mate Nick Heidfeld and Kovalainen. Article of the month - 2011 Australian Grand Prix
The 2011 Australian Grand Prix (formally the 2011 Formula 1 Qantas Australian Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on 27 March 2011 at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. It was the 76th race in the combined history of the Australian Grand Prix that dates back to the 100 Miles Road Race of 1928. Originally planned as the second race of the 2011 Formula One season, it became the season opener with the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix due to civil unrest in the country. The race, contested over 58 laps, was won by the reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel, driving for Red Bull Racing, after starting from pole position. Lewis Hamilton finished second in a McLaren, and Renault's Vitaly Petrov completed the podium in third place, the first podium finish of his career and the first podium finish for a Russian national. Article of the month – 1980 Spanish Grand Prix, currently listed for Peer Review
The 1980 Spanish Grand Prix (formally the XXVI Gran Premio de Espana) was a Formula One motor race held on June 1, 1980 at Circuito Permanente del Jarama. Originally scheduled to be part of the 1980 Formula One World Championship, following the running of the race it was announced that World Championship points would not be awarded to the competitors, making it a non-championship race. The winner of the race was Alan Jones, driving for the Williams team. Jochen Mass finished second for Arrows and Elio de Angelis third for Team Lotus. Owing to disputes as part of the FISA-FOCA war, the race went ahead without the teams of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Renault, because the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile (FISA), then the governing body of Formula One, had declared the race illegal. The other teams drove the race, now sanctioned by the Formula One Constructors Association (FOCA). All teams competing in the race ran Ford engines. Carlos Reutemann, Nelson Piquet and Didier Pironi all retired from the race whilst in the lead, Reutemann due to a collision and Pironi and Piquet because of mechanical problems. Only six of the twenty-two drivers who took the start of the race made it to the end, and only three were on the lead lap. Article of the month – 1995 Brazilian Grand Prix; promoted to WP:GA quality
The 1995 Brazilian Grand Prix (formally the XXIV Grande Prêmio do Brasil) was a Formula One motor race held on March 26, 1995 at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, São Paulo, Brazil. It was the first round of the 1995 Formula One season. The race, contested over 71 laps, was won by Michael Schumacher for the Benetton team after starting from second position. David Coulthard finished second in a Williams, with Gerhard Berger third in a Ferrari. Damon Hill, who started the race from pole position, spun out while leading on lap 30 with an apparent gearbox problem, which was later found to be a suspension failure. Schumacher's win came despite Benetton encountering steering problems with his car during Friday practice, leading to him crashing heavily and necessitating steering component changes for the rest of the event. Despite Schumacher's victory, Hill proved to be faster during the race, and seemed to be on course for a comfortable victory before his sudden retirement. Other notable performances came from Berger, who took the final podium position despite being delayed during one of his routine pit stops due to a problem with a loose wheel nut; Mika Häkkinen, who finished fourth for the McLaren team despite its new car proving to be uncompetitive in pre-season testing; and Mika Salo, who drove strongly in the first half of the race to run third in his first Grand Prix for the Tyrrell team, only to suffer from cramp and drop back to seventh place at the finish. Behind Häkkinen, the other points-scoring finishers were Jean Alesi in the second Ferrari and Mark Blundell, who drove the second McLaren. Blundell was standing in for regular driver Nigel Mansell in the second McLaren until the team could produce a wider chassis in which to accommodate him, as the car's initial cockpit design had proved to be too narrow for him to drive comfortably. Several hours after the conclusion of the race, Schumacher and Coulthard were excluded from the race result as the chemical "fingerprint" of fuel samples from their cars taken after qualifying and the race did not match the specified sample lodged with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) prior to the event. Berger was thus declared the winner, but the race stewards' decision to exclude them was overturned at an appeal hearing on April 13. Schumacher and Coulthard were reinstated in first and second places respectively, but the two teams did not receive their respective constructors' points. The Ferrari team was unhappy with the decision made at the appeal hearing; Berger called the sport "a joke". The rule concerning the legality of fuels had been changed for the 1995 season, as had the new standardised equipment used for refuelling during the race, the drivers' weighing-in procedure and the conditions of the drivers' racing licences; all of these changes produced controversies which at times threatened to overshadow the race, as did the excessively bumpy condition of the track. The race also marked the first Brazilian Grand Prix to take place since the death of Brazilian triple World Champion Ayrton Senna the previous year; his passing was commemorated in various ways throughout the event. Article of the month – 2011 Belgian Grand Prix
The 2011 Belgian Grand Prix, formally the 2011 Formula 1 Shell Belgian Grand Prix, was a Formula One motor race that was held on 28 August 2011, at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium. It was the twelfth round of the 2011 Formula One season, and the 67th Belgian Grand Prix to be held. The race, contested over 44 laps, was won by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, the drivers' championship leader, after starting from pole position. Vettel's team-mate Mark Webber finished in second place, and Jenson Button completed the podium in third position for McLaren. As a consequence of the race, Vettel extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to 92 points over Webber. Fernando Alonso, fourth in the race, moved into third place in the championship, ten points behind Webber in third, and eight ahead of Button. In the World Constructors' Championship, Red Bull extended their championship lead to 131 points over McLaren, with Ferrari a further 64 points behind in third position. The 2011 Italian Grand Prix, formally known as the 2011 Gran Premio Santander d'Italia was a Formula One motor race that was held on 11 September 2011 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy. It was the thirteenth round of the 2011 Formula One season, and the sixtieth time the Italian Grand Prix had been held at Monza. The race, contested over 53 laps, was won by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, the drivers' championship leader, after starting from pole position. Jenson Button finished in second place for McLaren, and Fernando Alonso completed the podium in third position for Ferrari. As a consequence of the race, Vettel extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to 112 points over Alonso, who moved up to second place in the championship. Button moved into third place in the championship, five points behind Alonso, and level on points with fourth-placed Mark Webber, but ahead on countback. In the World Constructors' Championship, Red Bull's championship lead was cut by McLaren to 126 points, with Ferrari a further 71 points behind in third position. Hi Jamesontai, I am a Wikipedian and researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, working with Professors Robert E. Kraut and Aniket Kittur. We’ve published many scholarly papers on Wikipedia and are partnering with the Wikimedia Foundation on several new projects.
I have been analyzing collaboration in Wikipedia, especially Collaborations of the Week/Month. My analysis of seven years of archival Wikipedia data shows that Collaborations of the Week/Month substantially increase the amount and nature of project members’ contributions, with long lasting effects. We would like to talk to Wikipedians to better understand the processes that that produce this behavior change.
We’ve identified you as a particularly good candidate to speak with because of your involvement with the WikiProject Universities' Collaborations, which is one of those we’ve been investigating. It would really help us if you would be willing to have a short talk with us, less than 30 minutes of your time. We can talk via skype or instant messenger or other means if you’d prefer.
