. Is there any reason Yutyrannus is classed as a neovenatorid here? Have any studies suggested such a placement? ETA: Why have you omitted the Tyrannosauridae and replaced Macrocheiriformes with Ornithomimoidea? Not being aggressive or anything, I'm just genuinely curious here. nope im just doing what i think it could be im not a scientist or anything so dont take me too seriously haha. but what i think is that yutyrannus is probably a basal avetheropod possibly making a connection but im not sure Jakegaming7788 (talk) 13:07, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I didn't see this before! The way I see it, if phylogenetic analysis recovers Yutyrannus as a proceratosaurid, I think it's a safe bet that it's a proceratosaurid. If it isn't that would mean that other taxa (Sinotyrannus comes to mind) would be reclassified.
ETA: Is there any particular reason you think it's a basal avetheropod? I've not heard that even suggested before, so I'm interested. Borophagus (talk) 10:57, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know, Yutyrannus is such a strange animal when i was younger i used to think that tyrannosaurs and carnosaurs like allosaurus and carcharodontosaurus were polar opposites, but when i found yuty it just changed everything because it looks like a carnosaur but its a tyrannosaur (still not 100% sure why) but i think that it may be the common ancestor. Again dont take me seiriously im just a palo enthusiast not a scientist Jakegaming7788 (talk) 16:35, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not replying! It's completely fine - I'm nothing more than an enthusiast myself. I'll admit, there are certain similarities between Yutyrannus and carnosaurs at a first glance. Borophagus (talk) 16:46, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
