Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jake Kills, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Cole Pratt, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The plain and simple conflict of interest guide
- The five pillars of Wikipedia

- How to create your first article (using the Article Wizard if you wish)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:55, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jake Kills. Please don't be intimidated by the above template. I only added just in case you do have some kind of personal or professional relationship with Cole Pratt. You seem to have sorted your image issue out; however, since pretty much all of your focus so far on Wikipedia has been related to Pratt, you're at least giving the impression of an apparent conflict of interest. If you do have such a connection, don't worry because it's doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get kicked off of Wikipedia; it doesn't, however, mean that you might want to take a look at things like WP:COISELF, WP:COIADVICE and WP:PSCOI#Steps for engagement and try to follow what's written on those pages as much as possible. Wikipedia doesn't expressly prohibit conflict-of-interest editing, but it does highly discourage it and COI editors who adhere to relevant policies and guidelines tend to have less problems that those who don't.Now, if none of the above applies to you, then you don't need to worry about it; you still, however, might want to read some of the pages that the template links to for reference because they also contain some general information you may find useful. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:05, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks again - trying to fill that particular page with more information as its initial creation seemed pretty sparse with data. I have been trying to follow templates that seem to be out there already with existing similar subjects. For sure, it could be said that there is a COI so I am trying to keep the information relatively "statistical" with outside references that back up the information. I hope that is all right. I would be happy to add to other similar pages because of my background and experience but, crap, that seems like a lot of work! I will read through the guidelines a little better so I have a good handle on how things are done - kind of just winged it at first just building up on what was already done by another user. The other user didn't like some of the edits - which is fine - seems like they have a lot more experience at it then I do! (Jake Kills (talk) 15:14, 19 April 2020 (UTC))
- Jake, you need to declare your coi (explain your relationship with the subject and if there is compensation involved) and add a connected contributor template to the article's talk page. You can make your declaration on your userpage. John from Idegon (talk) 15:19, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- John, thanks for the heads up! I am going to look for, and assume there is, a wiki article on how to do this (declare any COI's) on your user page? Assuming this is the best place to start: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest? (Jake Kills (talk) 15:24, 19 April 2020 (UTC))
- You don't need anything formal unless you are WP:PAID. "The subject of XXX article is my brother/friend/etc." would suffice if you are just doing this out of friendship and not for any financial gain. John from Idegon (talk) 15:40, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- John, okay, I've tried it - using one of those COI "badges" that I was able to find. Any edits from here on in I will try and do as suggestions on that article's "talk page" but at this point they should probably just start taking care of themselves. Thanks for your help John.(Jake Kills (talk) 20:03, 19 April 2020 (UTC))
Minor edits
[edit]Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Cole Pratt, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:07, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again Jake Kills. Wikipedia defines a "minor edit" in a specific way and some of your edits so far would probably not be considered to be as such. Again, this is not a huge deal, but mostly you should avoid marking your edits as minor (particularly anything that adds or removes content, including images) except when it clearly would be considered as such as explained in WP:MINOR#Things to remember. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:13, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for all the help - getting used to how this all works! (Jake Kills (talk) 15:07, 19 April 2020 (UTC))
- There is a setting in your preferences that marks all edits as minor. Best to make sure that's off. John from Idegon (talk) 15:20, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- John, thank you. I see that now! (Jake Kills (talk) 15:25, 19 April 2020 (UTC))
