Please help me with...
Hello Can you tell me about the Primary sources policy? I read the explanation but did not understand correctly, can anyone explain it to me more easily? JackP111 (talk) 10:26, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- If a reference is written by the subject, the company/group/etc they work(ed) for or were otherwise involved (e.g. their university), or otherwise directly connected to them, then it is a primary source. These primary sources are strongly discouraged because the subject usually has direct influence over their publication, which makes all but the most uncontroversial facts (e.g. dates of birth, etc) potentially unreliable. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. For example, can I use PubMed articles directly?JackP111 (talk) 13:23, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- Well, PubMed isn't a primary source, it's a search engine, but in general, yes you can. I think you're looking for a couple of subsections of WP:MEDRS – WP:MEDPRI and WP:MEDSEARCH. As Primefac said above, if this doesn't answer your query, follow his instructions again and we'll take another whack at answering. Be as specific as you can in your questions, and welcome to Wikipedia. :-) Katietalk 14:56, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie I have read many Wikipedia laws, I have read these two laws, but they do not cover my questions. For example can I use these articles directly in Wikipedia articles?
- A short review of biological research on the development of sexual orientation - ScienceDirect
- Homosexuality and scientific evidence: On suspect anecdotes, antiquated data, and broad generalizations - PubMed (nih.gov)
- Reducing rates of preventable HIV/AIDS-associated mortality among people living with HIV who inject drugs - PubMed (nih.gov) JackP111 (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- I can't speak to the reliability of those specific articles, so my advice is to ask about them at either WT:MED or the reliable sources noticeboard. Katietalk 15:54, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Controversial topic area alert
[edit]This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in gender-related disputes or controversies or in people associated with them. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}}
on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
