Nemesis (Marvel Comics)

Hi J Greb. Sorry to trouble you, but you're the man with regards info-boxen. Do we have a solution for the use of two info-boxes like at Nemesis (Marvel Comics)? Hiding T 13:21, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Using Nemesis (Marvel Comics) as an exemplar... as per here.
The "IDs" can internal link to the headers, but htis would be the basics.

Problems over Nekron

Hey. Okay. Nekron. He's leading the BLC, right? You've got citation and everything. It's in at least one freaking article. So, why not his? I'm trying to reason with this other guy, Friginator, who's going on about "WP:Crystal" and telling me I'm out of line. He won't talk it out, and he keeps reverting anyone who tries to mention the BLC thing in Nekron's article. Look, if I'm wrong. I'll back off. I don't have time to stomp my feet. But I think he's taking this way too far. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 18:03, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Would you have a little chat with him/her about their page moves? They seem to think that acronyms are preferable to full titles. 98.248.33.198 (talk) 20:37, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Template:Infobox comics creator

Hi! Your recent edits to Template:Infobox comics creator has left some GIGO characters at the top of each comics creator page (see Steve Ditko, for example). I don't know enough about the parser functions to fix it myself so I thought I'd mention it to you, maybe you could take a look at it again. Cheers! --Captain Infinity (talk) 22:19, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Should be back in order... - J Greb (talk) 23:03, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

User:Abdul Qayyum Ahmad

Thanks for letting me know, I'll hopefully be able to check those edits later this evening. --Angelo (talk) 16:52, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Andriola

It's like the Beatles. Eliminate music or lyrics, and you're no longer getting the Beatles. Pepso2 (talk) 13:19, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Then we are going to have a problem with all of the strips - as the NFC sits, we can't have a full strip of a quality to read/reproduce. A panel or two maybe, but not full strips. - J Greb (talk) 21:31, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Infoboxes, categories and user space

Hi J Greb. Sorry to trouble you. Is there a way of tweaking the infoboxes so that when it is on a page in user space the page won;t get categorised in the category? See User:Zulphur/Cosmo (Marvel Comics) for an example. Hiding T 21:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a logical parser statement... bracketting the non-maitenance cats between {{#if:{{NAMESPACE}}|| and }} .
I'm pretty sure I've put into most of the templates I've churned through (the green ones on the charct on my user page). Hadn't gotten to the characters yet though... let me take a quick look...
- J Greb (talk) 21:53, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Great! As long as you're aware of it and it is in a list of things to do, that's fine by me. Hiding T 21:59, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Both the team and character boxes should only be putting maintenance type cats on non-article space pages now. And just an FYI the 'boxes on such pages feed into Category:Misplaced comics infoboxes. - J Greb (talk) 22:08, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. And thanks for the link to that category, that'll be handy for list comparisons in AWB. Hiding T 09:54, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Schmeater

I started a section about this guy on the Comic project page. I honestly don't know what to do with someone who thinks that are being helpful but have such a poor grasp of what we do and such a poor editorial style that they actively degrade the articles they edit. --Cameron Scott (talk) 08:59, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Color scheme

Do we still follow Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Color scheme? Hiding T 12:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I think it's an emphatic no... We've pretty much dropped down to the blue for comics and purplish for manga. - J Greb (talk) 21:13, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll deprecate it. Now... Hiding T 17:01, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

merge these?

Am I missing something or would it be a no-brainer to merge Category:Image Comics covers and Category:Image comic book covers? You created them both, so I'm wondering if there's a distinction? If not, I reckon we could speedy it. Hiding T 17:01, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

The distinction is that I had second thoughts about the longer title :)
If you look at Category:Comic book covers you'll see about 1/2 a dozen pairs like that. When I started out separating the images, I was using "comic book covers". Once I gor going though I realized 1) it's a slight misnomer since Wiki image licensing treats square bound material as "books" and 2) it's a bit long and awkward.
I've been slowly moving the files to the "covers" set, but set it up for myself as an "as I find the file" instead of a "churn through it now". Same thing with the move from "Covers from Foo related titles" to "Covers from titles related to Foo".
- J Greb (talk) 17:11, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll leave it in your capable hands. If you want me to automate it with User:Comics-awb, I can. I think that would be allowed under the conditions of the bot account. Now another thing: Were you aware of this: {{Graphic novel list}}? Hiding T 14:15, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I had seen it dropped into a few of the Chinese and Korean comics articles, but never really looked at the coding... It seems like a useful template at first blush. I'd have to take a closer look though to see if it's a good replacement for the TPB templates. - J Greb (talk) 16:08, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Cool. Also, I've found a few templates that weren't tagged for the project, the bot account is picking them off now, but the list is at User:Hiding/X3, don;t know if you want to run your eye over the list and give the templates your "professional" appraisal? Hiding T 16:57, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Why is Template:Infobox comics organization not parsing properly on the above article?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 09:30, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Who ever added it skipped over the section:
|business =
|organisation =
|organization =
The last one should have had a "y" or equivalent added. - J Greb (talk) 10:11, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

RFC draft

Hello, just bringing your attention to User talk:BOZ/RFCU Asgardian draft. BOZ (talk) 12:21, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Images

Ok thanks, I understand. I didn't like the image article after I created it anyway and I appreciate the welcoming. Jhenderson777 (talk) 22:20, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Iron Man Template

No, Doom doesn't go in every navbox.

And WHY? Because your rule named "I do not agree"?. If you see the list of Irom Man enemies, you will see also Doom's name, and why Iron Man is one of his main enemies. Besides, he is a secondary enemy of the Silver Surfer and his name is on there too.Brazilian Man (talk) 02:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Bluntly: The navboxes are limited to characters central to the topic. Doom isn't. - J Greb (talk) 02:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Not Iron Man centric character. FF, yes. Iron Man, no.

Then you should read more comics, pal. Yes, he is the Fantastic Four arch-nemesis. And I know people like you just believe in what they see. Therefore, if you see these images, you will realize that Iron Man fought Doctor Doom ALONE, without the Avengers, several times, much more than other famous characters like Spider-Man an X-men. And precisely here, in Iron Man #150, it is said they rivalry are great. Following your rule, Kingpin couldn’t be listed at his greatest foes templates, which belong to Spider-Man, Daredevil and The Punisher, because his nemesis is only Daredevil.Brazilian Man (talk) 03:22, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

(sigh) Stop. Just stop.
All of the Marvel character nav boxes would wind up bloating to the point of being useless if all the "X faced Y" ground breaking face offs were included. Hence the general attempt to limit villains/foes/opponents to the character thatare fundamentally and intrinsic linked to the cor topic.
Kingpin has been cited as an example of the exception since that character is intrinsically linked to Spider-Man and Daredevil (but not Punisher).
Doom does not hit that level. The character is intrinsic to the FF and only the FF. Not Iron Man (a hand full of arcs) or the Avengers or Spider-Man or any where else.
As for:
"Then you should read more comics, pal. Yes, he is the Fantastic Four arch-nemesis. And I know people like you just believe in what they see. Therefore, if you see..."
Get your head out of your ass. You want to play that card, take it some where else. Most of the editors working with the Comics Project do not have the time to put up with that level of manure, nor should we have to. All of us have a love of the material we're dealing with. Just because a standing consensus doesn't cater to your personal POV does not give you the right to take a shot at another editor by saying they should "read more comics". Got it?
- J Greb (talk) 03:36, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Get your head out of your ass

Yes, maybe you are right. I'm thinking about put my head in your mother ass or at your boyfriend's. Maybe i'm gonna be blocked for this, but I don't care. You started it, removing my edition with an arrogant NO, without starting any talk. But I come here this time just to say that I was wrong when I wrote that picture proves that they are great enemies, because I thought I saw there the word "true" instead of truce. But you still didn't show me a Wiki's rule that doesn't allow me to put Doom's name at Iron Man template. If you think you can win only by willpower, I can play this game too.200.191.198.185 (talk) 16:16, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Drawing a line. I've warned the IP that may or may not be Brazilian Man (talk · contribs) against any more personal attacks, that's beyond the pale above and if teh anon wants to retract it, that would be welcome. I'll also point out that you probably shouldn't rise to it either, J Greb, even though there's provocation. I've long made noise about admins having to set a standard, so it would be remiss not to point it out here. Regarding the template, my two cents are that Doom shouldn't be listed. I see Emperor has also reverted, so the next step is a conversation rather than using the template as a method for arguing the toss. Attempts to do so will be viewed as disruptive.
