Wonder Woman

That anonymous user is at it again [1] ... Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:51, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

And the page has been, sadly, semi-protected. - J Greb (talk) 15:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, J.

Happy New Year! Hope it's off to a good start. -- Tenebrae (talk) 01:09, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Can I ask for a little bit of help?

I am working on a new template to add more information to List of The Bill characters, and would like to ask your help with the ParserFunctions since I'm not too good at that sort of thing. :)

The test page with what I want to achieve is here, while the template for the body section is here. Can I ask you to look at the body template, I would like to make the 6th variable - the description optional.

If there is no {{{6}}} present then the bottom row should not be included, and the bottom border of the main row coloured. I couldn't work out how to do that, so any help you can give would be appreciated. --Deadly∀ssassin 02:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

And I think I just got it... That was the type of footer you were looking for, right? - J Greb (talk) 03:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
I was looking for the thin blue line that appears under the description to appear under each row -- even the ones without the description. --Deadly∀ssassin 03:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah... Not too sure about that one... - J Greb (talk) 03:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for your help, It's much appreciated, I'll keep experimenting. --Deadly∀ssassin 03:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
No problem... hope you hit on it. - J Greb (talk) 03:13, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
You're back. :) I'll leave the tempalte alone while you have a go. --Deadly∀ssassin 04:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok... I think part of it was that the If staments were getting overly complex. And there was a bad runon with the 2nd line. - J Greb (talk) 04:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Blackpanther1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Blackpanther1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

New straw poll

You are a user who responded to RFC: Use of logos on sports team pages. As someone interested in the discussion a new straw poll has been laid out to see where we currently stand with regards to building a consensus. For the sake of clarity, please indicate your support or opposition (or neutrality) to each section, but leave discussion to the end of each section. — BQZip01 — talk 23:20, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Henry Pym image

It has gone around the house a few times and has now come up again: Talk:Henry Pym#Time for a new picture. (Emperor (talk) 05:20, 8 January 2009 (UTC))

I found a new outside source that is indicative that D-Man is not a member of the Avengers and move D-Man appropriately. Slamburger is reverting my edits (past 3 reverts) and perverting Wikipedia rules against anything I say. So, I am asking if you would step in again, since you were involved before.Spshu (talk) 15:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I was actually coming here to ask you the very same thing. I don't think his source is any different than other sources cited which didn't end up in things going "his" way. Please come check it out and voice your opinion.SlamBurger (talk) 18:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Laira picture

Well that's just hypocritical; I uploaded File:Lairaredlantern.PNG under a different name in October AND tried a compromise, yet it gets deleted, but another user uploads it again, AND THIS TIME IT'S KEPT? Is this supposed to be some sort of deliberate bias? Because I can't see any other reason. Blue Mirage (talk) 19:38, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Nope... not a bias. A case of "Missed the change in early December". Thanks for pointing it out though. - J Greb (talk) 22:31, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:The1stLegion.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 19:56, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Star Brand infobox

Hi

I just reverted your edit that moved the infobox in this article. The reason its where it is, is due to a history of problems that kept happening when it was located at the top of the article. I've explained in more detail on the article's talk page.

Thanks. Stephen Day (talk) 20:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Opps, sorry. I saw that you moved it, but didn't realize that you'd changed the infobox itself.. Stephen Day (talk) 21:21, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
No problem... though in thinking on this...
The new box is "flippable" allowing the template to have a primary point of the comic or the story element/object. In cases where the series becomes secondary, it also allows for two images - one of the object and one of the initial cover of the series.
Would it be reasonable here to flip the template, and bring the newuniversal image (showing the brand on the hand) up to the top of the article?

Copy is no Law at internet explorer.

Copying with Green Lantern named in [2] is nothing to do with it. There are no law with Wikipedia or internet dot com. If you want the character fiction with Green Lantern's named you have to do it yourself.

You not listen to my words about the Green Lantern character stories. That http://www.dcuguide.com/glcorps/index.php is part with fans copy rights word titles.(96.52.172.240) —Preceding undated comment was added at 01:54, 15 January 2009 (UTC).
No. You listen I don't care about your Green Lantern character stories. There are no law at internet explorer with any sources with their idea of fans. You had to let it go.(96.52.172.240) —Preceding undated comment was added at 01:54, 15 January 2009 (UTC).

List of black superheroes

I just wanted to bring the changes to List of black superheroes to your attention, Absolon moved and renamed the page instead of just copying the content, and I cannot figure out how to restore the original page in it's old location. --Xero (talk) 14:57, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for stepping in there, everything seems to have been resolved amicably. --Xero (talk) 17:05, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:Fictional time travellers

Please read the talk page at the category:fictional time travellers. I have the blessing of the previous CfD's closing admin to recreate the category, and I've laid out my plan to help this category be useful. -- AvatarMN (talk) 22:29, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

I was CfDing for review since it looks like the same problems had reappeared... I just wish the "closer" had waited for the CfD reason had posted. - J Greb (talk) 22:54, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
The category's been restored so you can carry on with the CfD. I'm sorry for pre-empting your action there. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:09, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Not a problem... I was a little slow on getting the discussion reasoning up on the CfD page, so I can see how it would have looked like as speedy request. - J Greb (talk) 23:11, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Teen Titans images

Thought you'd be interested in the discussion I started: Talk:Teen Titans#Main image. (Emperor (talk) 01:24, 22 January 2009 (UTC))

Civility

Yes I saw the reverting. This is clearly a content dispute not vandalism and is connected with one of his "things" - this one being stripping down the in other media sections to the least possible information. Again he claims consensus but I am unsure where it came from as I know I'd not agree to it - you have to take have enough space to add a concise account of the relevant information (as it is other media there may need to be a description of a character's role if it isn't covered in the article).

So what you said on the money - not agree with him isn't vandalism, calling it vandalism could be a problem if repeated. (Emperor (talk) 02:35, 22 January 2009 (UTC))

That's the nub, his edit summary for the 2nd revert all but calls it vandalism. He can say "But I didn't use the "v" word." and try and duck the civility/NPA issue. - J Greb (talk) 02:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Faceless Hunter

I noticed this rv and just had to ask, why did you do it? JoeLoeb seems to be correct on this one. Please reply below, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:28, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

The long and the short is that the category is for characters in comics and the article, as structured, is about a species in comics. It may wind up focusing on one example, but it's still structured wrong for the category.
If there were a cat for "Year plot element introductions in comics", that would be fair game. I'd be wary of starting that grouping of cats though, IIRC the "introduction" tree was removed in favor of the "Character debut" and "Series debut" pair. I believe the rationale was to limit the cats to 1) those likely to be well populates and 2) allow for a sameness of the contents.
- J Greb (talk) 00:13, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Got it. BTW, you're also keeping a close eye on User:JoeLoeb right? I've been keeping tabs, and do notice sometimes that a few of JoeLoeb's changes are less than helpful. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:07, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Commentary requested

Hey there. :) Could you have a look at my thoughts and see if there is any commentary you would like to add? Maybe if I'm not alone in this, we can get some action going? BOZ (talk) 19:57, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I see that you have said that removing tags without addressing them "can be considered vandalism". Well no, not in the circumstances. Good faith editors do not go out to harm an encyclopedia article. But as you seem to think the tags absolutely must all exist on that article I'll leave it.

I ask you to reconsider, though. Does this article, which obviously needs some help, absolutely need to be further disfigured by someone slapping four enormous and ugly templates at the top? Would not a compromise be possible, perhaps by moving some of the tags to the talk page? --TS 19:01, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Comics era?

I mentioned this in the assessment of Silver Age of Comics [3] and floated it on WT:CMC but you are the expert so I thought I'd see what you thought. It occurs to me that as there are a lot of Golden Ages, Silver Ages, etc. that a general infobox might be handy - name, time span, image, etc. - nothing fancy. Thoughts? Feel free to answer here. (Emperor (talk) 23:42, 25 January 2009 (UTC))

I'm not 100% sure what you're looking for...
Is this a case of wanting a generic non-comics 'box or something specific to the Comics Project?

A general one would be, I think, like this: >>

- J Greb (talk) 23:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Well I was leaving it open really - I can certainly see a general one would work nicely and there doesn't seem anything specifically comic-related that we need, so it'd make sense if anyone else wanted to use it. Your example, seems to work nicely - the only extra addition would be a field for an image. (Emperor (talk) 00:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC))
See {{Ages of subjects}}... it should be ready for use.
There are a couple of things that may have room for improvement...
  • The "dates" could be formatted for months and days or for the "Year in whatever" pages.
  • The 'see fields could auto link.

Very nice. I've added it to the articles and it works nicely. (Emperor (talk) 16:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC))

Uncategorisation problems

I stumbled across this as one bot tagged, another added in fictional country and comic book cats and then another turned the comics to comic books. Is this just sloppy coding on the bots front or is it down to the user? If the former then this could happen again and again, which seems a lot of wasted effort. (Emperor (talk) 03:25, 31 January 2009 (UTC))

I think it's down to a couple of issues:
  • Closedmouth's AWB run was looking for [[Category:... at the bottom of the article. This is a problem since there are articles that are only going to be catted through "stub" templates.
  • MatthewVanitas not looking at the bottom of the page. I've got no idea if this was a bot or semi-bot edit, but it looks like the editor is a WP:UNCAT patroller.
  • RossBot seems to have been a valid auto edit to avoid a category redirect.
The initial AWB run is problematic, but not overly so. It would be nice though to know the parameter of the run though since it looks like only Kahndaq was tagged and there are a lot of comics articles now that are only catted through the infobox.
MV's edit is very troubling, especially if it is fully manual. He basically didn't bother to look at the page or the existing cat. It may be worth dropping the editor a note pointing out that 1) a cat was already there, 2) s/he added at least one redirect, and 3) both were parent/grandparent cats to the one that was already there.
Lastly, a note may need to be left for WP:UNCAT, at the least, pointing out the problems this article illustrates.
