Watchmen-palooza

Hey there, I wasn't sure who to ask for help, but your name was at the front of my mind. So DC just officially announced the Watchmen prequels. Putting aside whether this is a good idea or not (IMO: a terrible idea), as a result of this news I anticipate a lot of traffic and edits coming into Watchmen, a page I heavily rewrote in light of a Featured Article Review a while back and subsequent maintain to help keep it in top FA shape. I could use some help watching over (yes, I note the pun) the article as much as you can at the moment, at least until enough news is accumulated to warrant a separate article for the prequel projects. Any help you can offer is appreciated! WesleyDodds (talk) 11:55, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Should be "interesting" to say the least...

open research

i think this is a frequent confusion for newbies, who think that wikipedia can be a tool for open research. it needs to be specified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehmedmed (talkcontribs) 22:27, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Brian Boru is Awesome sockpuppetry

Hello. I've noticed on several pages of several accounts doing very much the same thing. I went to the sockpuppetry reporting page, and saw the accounts under BBiA's name as suspected sockpuppets. Well, I see those accounts have a temp block on them, but now there is another one, with a very similar number listing, doing some of the same edits. 96.238.36.5 [1]. I don't know how to report it on the existing sockpuppet investigation, so I thought I'd bring it to the attention of someone who is already talking about it. Thank you. 69.250.56.64 (talk) 02:13, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

This is a request for comments at Template talk:Marvel Comics films#Animated films 2. Thank you.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:30, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

I didn't know that nonUS was used on other places too. I'll try to fix this. I've seen various values there such as "no", "yes", "y", "ko". In 90% of the cases the value was not set. -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:39, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

In other words you didn't look at the full code of the template.
Yes, I'm sorry that the note "'NonUS' is used for internal purposes when a non-English name is added. Please use the language name or Wiki-language code for this field." But it is kind of obvious when {{{nonUS|}}} is within the immediately visible code when starting to edit.
In the vast majority the parameter was either going to be empty or some variation of "yes" since most of the article either have only English names or don't specify a non-English one.

MSU Interview

Dear J Greb,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:04, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

About Me

Man I don't know if this person did evil against you or wikipedia but I swear I'm not him / her. What I have to JDDJS is a fight for a just cause, the articles of south park. If you say the article X-Men, Angel I already got the relevant references and asked you the favor for fixing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.84.79.138 (talk) 17:46, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Ben Templesmith pic on this wiki page.

Ben Templesmith requested my picture to be used for his wiki page. So I appreciate if you would stop switching back to the old one.

Ben Templesmith Sir, make that my wikipedia entry bio image & I'll buy you a beer or Squid hooker or whatever you want. Nice pic! 20 hours ago · Like · 1

Ben Templesmith Aww, that was quick. Some guy decided "He didn't like the dutch angle" whatever that means... and reverted it back to the last, obviously inferior image. Bleh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.95.202 (talk) 19:25, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

  1. Log in, assuming this is Weepygoon.
  2. Use the article's talk page along with reading WP:BRD.
  3. You're close to making a personal attack rather than discussing the content.
  4. While it is appreciated that a subject of an article wants to have input on the article, that doesn't bypass or trump Wikipedia guidelines or policies.
- J Greb (talk) 20:40, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it's me. And yes, Ben Templesmith has requested my picture be the one for his Wiki page. I have reproduced Facebook comments quoting the man himself. What more do you want? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weepygoon (talkcontribs) 22:28, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Copying the Facebook comments here isn't relevant.
What is relevant is keeping in mind Wkipedia has its own ways of doing things. Part of that is that is if your bold edit is reverted, discussing the issue on the article's talk page is preferable to moving into edit warring to get what you want.
And if you look at the talk page for that article, the issue of the infobox image had a going over from Dec 2010 to Jan 2011. And this one - with both images - is a close re-hash of that.
Now, would you care to take a look at the new discussion there?
- J Greb (talk) 22:41, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea what the big issue is. Templesmith has requested the picture to be replaced. I am merely acceding to his request to do so. In the history, there has also been indication that this has been carried out at the request of Ben Templesmith himself. So how do I go about changing the picture as Mr Templesmith himself has requested? User "Monk sp the sane" can also testify as he was involved in the same Facebook conversation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weepygoon (talkcontribs) 22:58, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

I have requested that Weepygoon cease his reverts to the article, and I'm requesting that you do the same, J Greb. Constantly reverting the article, once it is clear that a legitimate dispute has arisen, is edit warring, and is not permitted. I'm going to cut and paste the above exchange to the article talk page, so we can focus our discussion there. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 23:44, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
fair enough. - J Greb (talk) 23:54, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
