Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, JSmith10025. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 01:20, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to respond to your post, but I assume I can this way. So if you read this... I am not posting any "promotional material". What was posted was no different than the 5 or 6 others within that section of "Data Recovery Companies" which is the subject. Do you work for one of them and are trying solely mention those companies and remove any others? Wikipedia is for the public, not for you to false flag, edit, and threaten contributors as you wish, without grounds. I would suggest you read the heading and refer to the list that is already there. All those listed are Data Recovery Companies. If they get to have their names listed then others should be allowed as well.

Wikipedia is not here for you to promote your company. The reason why other companies are there is because they have their own articles as they ostensibly meet our notability criteria. We're not the Yellow Pages - we only write about things independent reliable sources have covered. --NeilN talk to me 02:14, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes, there we are. So you work for one of them and you're abusing Wikipedia with this BS false flagging and favoritism. #1 it's not "my company", #2 this company has sections on their website that realistically informs people of critical facts and safe Data Recovery techniques and the mistakes that many make. you still haven't given me a valid reason why theirs should remain, while what I posted should be omitted.

No, unlike you, I don't work for any of them. I don't even work in this industry. And I have given you a reason. I'll bold it this time: The reason why other companies are there is because they have their own articles as they ostensibly meet our notability criteria. We're not the Yellow Pages - we only write about things independent reliable sources have covered. Reading Wikipedia:Write the article first might also help. Finally, "In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID)." which is part of our conflict of interest policy is not optional. --NeilN talk to me 06:11, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
