Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from Isle of Wight Academy. Please be more careful when editing pages and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. careful when blanking out large sections of text, on the surface it appears to be vandalism. This is why it's an excellent idea to enter an edit summary so your intentions are clear. Trusilver 17:46, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Iwasymbolnew.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Iwasymbolnew.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 23:19, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Before you reinsert all that material into the article, would you mind taking a look at the thread I started on the talk page about it? It's a straight-up copyright violation from the school's website, and the terms of use of the school's website point that out quite clearly. Since you didn't use an edit summary for your reversion, it's not possible for anyone to know why you think this is OK. Would you consider discussing it before you reinsert it, if you're going to?— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 05:00, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 00:08, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to visit me at my talk page. Thank you. Jim1138 (talk) 01:48, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring, WP:3RR

[edit]

Can you please read the policy WP:3RR before we go any further? Please talk about it on the talk page. I've had an invitation to discuss the seg academy part in the lead on the talk page since November 2011 with no response from you.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 03:56, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, since you say on the talk page of the article that I have to do the work and you don't want to talk about it, I'm going to file an edit warring report about the issue and we'll let other people sort it out. I'll leave you a link to that discussion here soon.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 03:58, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here it is.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 04:34, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Alf.laylah.wa.laylah. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Talk:Isle of Wight Academy‎ that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it’s one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, — alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 19:14, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JOEWM2004,
I have blocked your alternate account since it was used inappropriately. While there are a few legitimate reasons for using alternate accounts, doing so to support yourself is quite obviously not one. Please don't do that again else your main account will likely be blocked as well. You can read up on our policy of alternate accounts at WP:Sock puppetry. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask.
