Hi, thank you for your response. Do you work for or represent the school? Your username includes the school's initials. The School is updating the page in line with guidance received from Independent Education Governance Professionals following the Department for Education's updated guidance on School websites from May 2024.What maintained schools must or should publish online - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Whilst we understand the referral to a "conflict of interest" as the page is indeed about "us", there are strong legal frameworks in place to ensure schools operate consistently such as "The School Information (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012" therefore although we own our website, the content on it is highly regulated by the UK Department for Education and our own Multi-Academy Trust which has oversight of several Schools and Colleges and is bound by the same aforementioned legal frameworks, plus stringent charity and financial legal requirements laid out by the UK Government. We would suggest that the JKHS website and that of the Heart of Mercia Trust are therefore reliable sources and independent in so far as we are not permitted to be "promotional" or bias as per Government policy.
Any edits we carry out on Wikipedia (and our own website or other sources) are not for promotional purposes. As aforementioned, legally we need to comply with Government requirements. The recent edits are to show a balanced view of the school in it's current format having gone through a period of change in recent years. You'll note we have not removed the more negative elements of our recent past such as the unfair dismissal.
We have removed the reference to "our" this was a genuine error.

Hello JK7ET!. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to John Kyrle High School, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:JK7ET!. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=JK7ET!|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Hello,
Obviously we are new to editing Wikipedia so any transgression of guidelines is completely unintentional, we just wanted to update the information to reflect the current day. Others Schools in our area have more detailed Wikipedia entries which source to their websites and data so we just followed this precedent. Can I suggest we compromise and user Tacyarg can edit the page as they see fit and we will not edit further without submitting on the talk page?

Using the talk page is a great idea, but even if you don't edit the article directly, the paid editing policy still applies. If you are employed by John Kyrle High School or otherwise paid to represent them, you are required to disclose this. jlwoodwa (talk) 09:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
