How to declare your conflict of interest and request edits
[edit]Hi, I saw your post at Talk:Raw Story#Discussion of 'junk_news' apellation wherein you asked, "if anyone can advise further on the appropriate way to make a request here".
- The appropriate way to disclose your conflict of interest as someone who has a financial stake in the subject of the article is described at WP:DCOI. I highly recommend you add the following to your userpage:
{{UserboxCOI|1=Raw Story}}
- The appropriate way to request edits to the page is described at Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request.
- In short, add
{{request edit}}
to the talk page, then make your request.- Ideally, edit requests should be phrased in a "change X to Y because of Z (source)" format.
- Small, simple changes like "Change John Doe to Jane Smith in paragraph 3, as per this source Jane Smith is the new president of the board" are more likely to be quickly actioned than larger, more complex rewrites.
- Be patient; the edit request system is backlogged several months, and volunteer editors do the changes that interest them.
- For controversial changes (such as dropping the "junk news" description), you should attempt to gain consensus on the talk page before making the edit request. Your post there is a good start to trying to gain consensus.
- In short, add
If you have any more general questions about how Wikipedia works, you can ask me on my talk page, or you can ask people at the help desk or the tea house (the tea house is geared towards newbies). ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:23, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! I added myself to the connected users on the talk page and added the conflict of interest to my personal talk page. JByrne404 (talk) 19:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- @JByrne404: I hope you don't mind, I moved that userbox to your user page (where userboxes should reside) instead of this user talk page. Grorp (talk)
- Thanks again @Grorp. I'd appreciate also at any point any pointers or counters of any comments I might make that might be inappropriate or incorrectly phrased/coded, and how they might be better suggested. I've noted that 'edit requests should be phrased in a "change X to Y because of Z (source)" format,' though on the junk news issue specifically I didn't want to contest the original sources but seek more information/thoughts. I noted that there were other edits that on their face seemed possibly reasonable but didn't follow Wikipedia's overall ethics/indended intent. Thanks again for your help. — JByrne404 (talk) 05:02, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- @JByrne404: You're welcome. I am working on the 'junk news' subject, but it's a pretty deep rabbit hole I dove down. And Brandolini's law definitely applies in this case. Grorp (talk) 05:16, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Tip re edit requests
[edit]You might want to try using the Template:Request edit when making your requests on talk pages. By using the template, your request will get broader exposure to other editors rather than be limited to those who have the article on their watchlist. See Category:Wikipedia conflict of interest edit requests. Grorp (talk) 05:05, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 14
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Crooks and Liars, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Progressive and The Hill. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Seeking feedback on proposed edits to King School article
[edit]Hello, I see that you've made edits to articles about historic private schools in the recent past. I would love to know what you think of my proposed edits to the King School] article. I am a connected contributor, and I've added a COI tag to the article's talk page. The current version is quite thin, and I've proposed adding new sections. Thank you, and I would appreciate any feedback while my request is awaiting review. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:King_School SBCornelius (talk) 17:25, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
