Hi, Berrely, sorry to disrupt you again, but since I will be away for the next few days I am going to have to publish this issue today so that the dates aren't missed. I am sorry again for being so quick on this,

Hopefully the next issue gives more time. Thank you for understanding, --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 00:55, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

TheWikiWizard - July 2022

Hey, Berrely! Here is the July 2022 issue for the TheWikiWizard!

Humour

  • It's less than 6 months till Christmas (I think...)
  • Start making the Christmas list! Never too early, or late for those who think Dec 26 is Dec 25 haha
  • If I had a dollar for every word I typed, the world would run out of money ;)

Wiki(p/m)edia News

  • The Japanese Wikipedia now uses the new vector skin! For those who speak Japanese or just want to take a look, check it out!
  • There is a conversation event that you can check out. More details on the link.
  • A meeting had taken place in regards to Interface of MediaWiki. More information of that meeting can be found here.

Editor's Notes

  • Please note that due to me being busy/at times not much to report on Wiki(p/m)edia some issues of this newsletter may be skipped. Don't worry I haven't forgotten about it!
  • Sometimes during the delivery of the issue, the mass message extension sends it twice for some reason. Please note I only send them once and not twice. I apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  • Remember that the Wikimedia Foundation also hosts other wikis too! So if you want to see what other wikis there are, give it a try! You might find something you like!

Question from Python Drink (22:37, 14 July 2022)

Good evening!

I'm confused lol. The info page for Technoblade says it was created July 1, 2022 but the protection log dates back to 2021. I'm a lil lost here. Is there an explanation for this? --Python Drink (talk) 22:37, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

hi @Python Drink! The page has been deleted before, if you check the deletion log you can see that it has been repeatedly created, deleted and recreated. The protection log still preserves protections after an article is deleted, for some reason I don't understand but appreciate nonetheless. Sennecaster (Chat) 03:07, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
@Sennecaster: oh now I get it. Thanks! -- Python Drink (talk) 09:56, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

IP blocks

I can't be the only one that finds this crazy....looks like if an IP address is blocked on here, anyone that edits from such is autoblocked. Well it happened to me. I don't think that makes sense for a registered account with no issues. -- Python Drink (talk) 23:15, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Python Drink, this is a measure taken to prevent abuse. I agree, in some cases I think this includes a lot of collateral damage (I am sometimes affected as well). However, these wide-ranging blocks tend to be used only on open proxies like VPN services. Verizon internet is also partially blocked to its rapid changing of IP addressed. Generally, you'll be fine on your home Wi-Fi.
If you're interested in having a read of the policy administrators use when considering where to block IP addressed, see Wikipedia:Blocking IP addresses. — Berrely • TalkContribs 18:53, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from ZWE1737 (15:02, 27 July 2022)

How to write an edit summary? --ZWE1737 (talk) 15:02, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @ZWE1737, welcome to Wikipedia. This help page should assist you in giving appropriate edit summaries. Kpddg (talk) 15:05, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Wheely

Hello, Berrely! Been a while, I hope you're doing well. I've submitted a series of COI requests at Talk:Wheely, where you've previously reviewed and implemented suggestions. Despite using Template:Request edit and seeking editor assistance at WikiProject Transport and WikiProject United Arab Emirates, the requests have gone unanswered and I was wondering if you might be willing to take a look. I've identified specific concerns and proposed replacement text, per this draft page. Alternatively, if you have any recommendations for where I might find editors willing to review, I'm all ears.

Either way, thanks for your consideration and take care. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:13, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
