Reference Errors on 28 November
[edit]Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:
- On the Joe Glaser page, your edit caused a cite error (help). (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:19, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
The article Ira blacker has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. McGeddon (talk) 19:41, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Improvements needed at Draft:Ira Blacker
[edit]Hello, you're almost but not quite getting how to do references. Right now you have your references formatted as footnotes (which is good) but instead of being placed by the information in the article that they prove the little blue numbers are just stacked at the bottom of the article. Take a glance at WP:Referencing for beginners and it shows how to fix this.
Also, I see you have a lot of GoogleBooks references (which is good). There's a really helpful online tool to turn a URL link ("http://...") into a fully-formatted Wikpedia footnote. Take any of those links, paste it into http://reftag.appspot.com and at the bottom it'll give you properly formatted footnote coding to paste into your article. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:05, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Reftag only works on gBooks, so that's fine for now. If you want to automatically fix the other links with an easy click, paste the name of your article (including the "Draft:" prefix but noting before that) into this tool: https://tools.wmflabs.org/fengtools/reflinks/
- What you need to do next is:
- Remove any footnotes to other Wikipedia articles. You can WP:wikilink to other WP articles (the blue clickable links) but you cannot cite them, footnote them, etc. That would be circular logic, citing Wikipedia on itself.
- The next part is that you're formatting footnotes right, but you're not placing them right. Again, please take a glance at WP:Referencing for beginners. If I say "John Smith invented an apple-picker in 1973.[1]", it should have a little blue number right after that claim, and that blue number matches up with the citation at the bottom automatically for you. The problem is that you stacked all your little blue numbers at the very end of the article, not actually next to the facts they support, so we have no idea what supports what.
Example of References section, automatically sorts the little blue numbers above

- Fix those for now and we'll be in a much better position to move forward. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:45, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

The helpchat
[edit]Hello Ira1942. My name is Howicus. I assume that you were the person who came into #Wikipedia-en-help connect earlier today asking about Draft:Ira Blacker. Unfortunately, when you copy/pasted your references into the channel, the automated anti-spam program saw that as posting too many messages too quickly, and it kicked you out of the channel. The ban has been lifted though, and you should be able to re-join the channel now if you like.
Now, in regards to your question, one thing you should do is turn your references into inline citations, so that it's easy to tell what information in the article is from which sources. The actual format of the sources looks fine...you just need to move them into the body of the article. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 00:21, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
