Hello and thank you for your message. Sorry for my delayed reply but I don't use Wiki much and didn't see it. I hope you can help me. As i said, i don't use this much. I'm the director of the Swami Satchidananda archives and Integral Yoga Media (this is re: Satchidananda Saraswati) and someone contacted me saying the info on the page, and the name, was not correct. I had not been on the page, so I visited it it and indeed, most of the information was incorrect. I see it was created by someone from India, perhaps? While it was very kind of the person to do that, Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville, Inc/Integral Yoga International owns the copyright of and generates the information about Swami Satchidananda and Integral Yoga. So, I just thought I was doing the "right" thing in correcting the info. I created an account under "Integral Yoga Media" as I thought that was the right thing to do as this wasn't my "personal" edit. I'd be happy to make an edit using my personal account if that is what you recommend. I really need your help because a) I don't know what I'm doing nor does anyone else in our ashram have that skill. b) The name that Sri Swamiji used, and his legal name, was Swami Satchidananda (not Satchidananda Saraswati). So, it is confusing for those wanting to find info about him. c) The info is so wrong. I can give many, many examples. So, I was only editing for accuracy. I don't understand how to do that and what the problem is with my edits (sorry, am 67 & all the guidelines here are something i don't really know and find very hard to follow. It took me 1/2 hour to figure out how to leave a message for you!). d) It took me over an hour to make the edits and unfortunately, I don't have a copy of those, since I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to make the edits without following some guidelines or something (of which i'm still not clear). Well, i think this gives you an overview of the mess i find myself in. Would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thank you very much.

OK, thanks for explaining, and glad you're trying to do the right thing. (I've merged the discussion here so we're talking in one place). Your old edits are quite safe, in the history of the article --- there's a "history" tab at the top of each Wikipedia article that you can just click on. As for your user name, it would really be best to change it when you're feeling up to it. We can probably get the article's title moved to 'Swami Satchidananda', but it makes little difference for the encyclopedia as both names point to the same place, so people will arrive there whichever they search for. On the edits, I've no idea why you would have wished to delete the information box at top right: it seems quite unexceptionable with simple and accurate facts. Same goes for the lead section which again seems very plain and factual.

If you want to challenge any fact, Wikipedia works much like a historian - evidence in the form of a Reliable Source (a page in a textbook, a national newspaper, a major academic journal) is required. People will unfortunately automatically become suspicious that something is wrong with a username connected to an article, and in your case you do have a definite Conflict of Interest which makes it very unwise for you to edit this particular article at all. Best will be for you to write what you think is incorrect on the Talk:Satchidananda_Saraswati page (you can click on that link to go there), adding (Internet) links to suitable books (with pages and quotations to prove your point), major newspapers or major academic journals, complete with article titles, dates, and authors. Dear Chiswick, thank you for your very helpful reply! (i should have asked you how to reply to the page where you put the chat all together in one place???). I'm not sure if i'm replying in the right place. Okay, so now i understand a bit better about what i was doing incorrectly. as far as the info box (gulp) i didn't even realize i deleted it (and i kinda wondered where the photo went). no problem having an info box, yet, some of the info in that is incorrect. For example, he was not involved in "ecumenism" (which actually refers to inter-Christian, or inter-Judeo Christian dialogue) but interfaith (which means: inclusive of all faiths in dialogue, education, etc.) Also, the photo is terrible. Would love to put a clear portrait type photo (no idea how to do that) or whatever you recommend so he can be more easily recognized. Here's what I'm not clear on: how to proceed with proposed changes. Yes, i'm clear i can use my regular user account and not make changes as Integral Yoga Media - no problem at all. It would also be ideal to have the name change to: Swami Satchidananda as many people do search for that and then become confused by the other name (we've had numerous inquiries about that--probably from those like me-- not savvy about these things!). So, to have your assistance with this would be awesome. Also, thanks for pointing out where my edits are. I would never have found those! And, how do i know if the other changes i wanted to make are ok??? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just so grateful to have you to turn to and help advise and guide me. A deep bow... sophie spencer

To upload a photograph of which you personally own the copyright (i.e. you took it), just go to Wikimedia Commons and click "Upload file" on the menu on the left hand side. You cannot upload images belonging to someone else unless they are genuinely public domain or copyright-expired, e.g. the photographer died over 70 years ago, or you can send in a letter releasing the copyright signed by the copyright owner.

Changes are "ok" if and only if they are supported by a reliable source, such as a reference to a page from a history textbook, a major academic journal, or a national newspaper.
