User talk:Insertcleverphrasehere/NPR invite list
Skip "other things to check for before invite"?
[edit]Hey Insertcleverphrasehere. Should we consider skipping "other things to check for before invite"? Might be more efficient to skip/delete those steps. Those things will be checked anyway when they apply at WP:PERM/NPR, right?
Could take this a step farther and just WP:MMS all these people an invite, directing them to apply at WP:PERM/NPR. That workflow would be very fast. Could tell thousands of people about NPR in a single day, potentially recruiting dozens of quality people. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:33, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- As you can see from my previous progress ( https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User:Insertcleverphrasehere/NPR_invite_list&oldid=1089631542 ), quite a few people failed the checks. (about 1 in three at that level, but I suspect it could be worse lower down on the list). I personally wouldn't automate it, because I think that Kudpung would rip my head off. If we mass message-sendered the entire list, I also think we would inundate PERM/NPR as well, so it would have to be done in steps. If we were to message sender the list, we would need a much more generic message; e.g. "you have been identified as having an experience level that may indicate that you are suitable for NPP, please review the granting conditions and...". If we manually check then we can send a much more personalised message like the one that I was using previously (which I think is more likely to lead to editors actually taking the invitation). — Insertcleverphrasehere(or here)(or here)(or here) 23:24, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm now a mass message sender and after checking a bunch I agree with Insertcleverphrasehere. It's a lot of work to do the checks for many users and I would not expect some admin to do all this work for candidates who are likely not to make the cut; furthermore, they might not know what to look for. Novem Linguae you're welcome to help me work through the list; I'm listing the passed candidates at User:Buidhe/test
and at some point will message them allsent the message to the first 19 people. (t · c) buidhe 20:13, 27 May 2022 (UTC)- With the "MMS everyone -> candidates self-filter based on interest -> admins do background check" workflow, the overall # of people that need to be background screened goes way down, because only candidates that are interested and that apply end up getting background checked, instead of everyone. And I have full confidence in the WP:PERM/NPP admins to do thorough background checks. But no worries, was just an idea. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- You might have a point after all. I've invited 30 people and so far only one of them has taken me up on the offer. It does take a long time to check and it would be better to direct that effort only to cases where they are actually interested. I'll send out messages in batches and watchlist the NPR requests, trying to help admins there out by providing info. (t · c) buidhe 22:10, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Buidhe All I can say is that the effort is worth it. I can't remember how many people I invited (several hundred or so), I can only search those who archive their talk pages, so anyone who deleted my invite will not be on that list. Anyway, I got like 80 or so takers, which resulted in a complete turnaround of the situation at NPP. — Insertcleverphrasehere(or here)(or here)(or here) 04:04, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Dr vulpes interested in helping out
[edit]@Dr vulpes, @Buidhe, @MB: Dr vulpes is interested in helping out with NPP recruitment and invites. I gave him some instructions on how we've been doing it so hopefully he can hit the ground running. Feel free to reach out with questions. I have this talk page watchlisted. Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 01:50, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
