Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Divisibility rule into Draft:Divisibility tests beyond 30. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 14:55, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Uh what does that mean? Iexistlol (talk) 15:24, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- It means that other people originally contributed to the content that you copied to Draft:Divisibility tests beyond 30, and when you copy that content over to another page, you need to provide proper attribution as detailed above. DanCherek (talk) 16:06, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Divisibility rule
[edit]Hi Iexistlol! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Divisibility rule several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.
All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Divisibility rule, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. And please read the comment I pinged you to at User talk:MrOllie#Divisibility rule Meters (talk) 22:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC). Meters (talk) 22:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- I agree that the divisibility rules for numbers above 30 should be listed somewhere on Wikipedia. After all, Wikipedia is the go-to site for most people to get information. But perhaps it's time to create a specific page, perhaps named list of divisibility rules for all natural numbers or something similar, and unload the Divisibility rule page to a bare minimum of rules from 2 to 10. That should avoid this edit war. Dhrm77 (talk) 11:40, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oh yes! I did do one. Iexistlol (talk) 00:44, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
August 2023
[edit]Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Divisibility rule. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them, and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles, nor are such pages a forum. No, it's not OK. Don't link to drafts, and don't talk in the article. Meters (talk) 00:29, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- But how do I create page Iexistlol (talk) 00:44, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- What do you mean? There is a draft, and you have edited it. If you mean, how do you get it approved for article space, my advice is that is not even close to ready. Meters (talk) 00:55, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- I didn’t know how to create a page, so I did a draft. Iexistlol (talk) 01:00, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- If you move it to article space as is it will be moved back or even deleted. Again, it is not ready for article space. It's just a copy of a list that was removed from Divisibility rule. There's no context for the list, and no sources. Meters (talk) 08:06, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Please tell me how to create a page. Iexistlol (talk) 21:42, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Or can I link to YouTube? Iexistlol (talk) 21:43, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- No, I am not going to give you instructions on how to move that draft to article space. For the third time: it is not ready for article space.
- What do you mean, link to YouTube? That has nothing to do with creating an article. If you mean link to YouTube as reference, then yes it is possible to do so, but it is unlikely that a YouTube link would be an acceptable reliable source. See WP:RS and WP:YOUTUBE. Meters (talk) 22:23, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Can I put the thing on YouTube and put a link? Iexistlol (talk) 22:52, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Absolutely not. You cannot post something on social media and then cite it as a source. Did you read WP:RS? If you didn't, then do so now. If you did, then read WP:RSSELF and WP:USERGENERATED again. I suggest what you just stop. You appear to have no concept of what is required for sourcing. I think you are wasting your time. Meters (talk) 23:25, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Please stop. Iexistlol (talk) 01:39, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- You asked a question, and I answered it. Meters (talk) 06:21, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Please stop. Iexistlol (talk) 01:39, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
