External links
[edit]Articles should almost never have external links, except in the "External links" section (and such links must comply with the external links guideline; see WP:MOS#External links). Rare exceptions are made, such as with the example RFC 2328. I have noticed the link additions by MessiFCB and yourself, but did not feel that action was required so long as the links were to media at Commons. However, the recent conversion of some of these to external links (see Open Shortest Path First) is not in accord with practice here. Videos are somewhat new and untested at Wikipedia, and it is not clear how they comply with policies such as no original research and verifiability. Have you discussed these links with anyone at Wikipedia (such as a WikiProject)? Approximately how many videos do you want to add, to how many articles? I will see any reply that you add here (see WP:TP for talk page information), and I will notify MessiFCB. Thanks. Johnuniq (talk) 08:00, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- In addition, such links are particularly problematic when running text refers to features of them, as these documents cannot be reproduced in hardcopy versions of WP articles. Some of these links have now been redirected to an external site the editor(s) appear to be affiliated with. This affords the appearance of promoting one's own website, which is a gross violation of WP policies. Kbrose (talk) 15:44, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Local area network. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 07:27, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Network switch. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 07:53, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits. The next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did to Sliding Window Protocol, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. jheiv talk contribs 19:47, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
