If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cmprince (talk) 22:31, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ian, I just wanted to add a note to the boilerplate above. There's nothing wrong with what you're writing, but you you should continue to clean it up in your sandbox User:IanAndersen/sandbox until it's ready to be moved into the main article space. Cmprince (talk) 22:34, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Cmprince. I think I got it cleaned up. Can I leave it there without a logo until I can get it up? Or should I remove it until I can get the logo there? IanAndersen (talk) 22:44, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The page Selectica has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be blatant advertising which only promotes something, and which is unlikely to be suitable for an article (or at best would need a fundamental rewrite). Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion of anything, whether a company, product, group, service, person, religious or political belief, or anything else. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hi Ian, I'd echo NawlinWiki's comments that any new article on Selectica needs to be written in neutral language and rely on independent sources, and also his reminder about WP:COI. The Wikipedia administrators are pretty quick to delete pages they think might have been created as advertisements for a company; as you can imagine, they see quite a bit of that. In response to your question on NawlinWiki's talk page, you could try WP:Articles for creation. Alternatively you could give it another try within your user area. The policies against advertisements apply to user areas as well, but if you explained you were working on an article I expect they'd give you some leeway. My advice would be to start with the independent sources rather than what the company says about itself. From what I remember about the article before it was deleted, a look at the guideline on external links might also be warranted. I'm not an administrator and can't guarantee how they'd react once an article is moved to the main space, but I'd be happy to provide feedback on any drafts. Welcome to Wikipedia, and happy editing! Some preliminary advice: cultivate a neutral tone. Don't try to sell the reader anything; don't brag about all the cool features; don't advocate or promote. Don't use peacock words or meaningless junkfood blather like "solutions" when you mean "hardware/service/software packages". (If it isn't the answer to an equation, or a solute dissolved in a solvent, then don't call it a "solution"!) This should read like what it is, an encylopedia article, not like something a marketing department spewed forth. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:19, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
