Well this is different...

You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia.

You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them. Editing from $7 has been blocked (disabled) by $1 for the following reason(s): $2

This block has been set to expire: $6.

Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and email other editors and administrators.

No idea what it means but I can't edit... Possibly because I'm on Scotrail's free WiFi. I'll check again when I get home. Thought it was a joke at first with all the dollars floating around... but no: I can only edit my talk page... — Iadmctalk  19:51, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Yep. That's exactly what it was. Still don't get the $7, $2, etc though... — Iadmctalk  23:01, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you!!

Thank you for cleaning up all those ISBN errors. It really does mean alot, especially as we are short handed right now. Unfortunately, that isn't all of them. What's on the website is generated from most articles edited that day. #69 was also updated to check more errors. If you are willing to fix more, a list of them can be found here. Bgwhite (talk) 08:49, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey, No problem! I kept looking at them hoping they'd magic away... but realised everyone else was, too! Someone had to take the initiative... I'll check out the dump later today — Iadmctalk  08:55, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

  • Just fyi. It's not appropriate to change your comment in an ongoing discussion as you did in this AFD in AFD or elsewhere, for example, on talk pages, after other editors have continued the conversation. What you may do What you may do is to strike strike a comment out, leaving an explanation, apology or whatever.E.M.Gregory (talk) 23:50, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
Not sure what you are referring to. I added my sig to one otherwise stray comment by me after I noticed it, copy edited a few immediately after posting, and moved a few things around for visual reasons. But I never changed my comments, AFAIK. BTW, one of your comments on me at that AfD was extremely offensive and constituted personal attacks: here. Please avoid this in future — Iadmctalk  00:14, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

New Wikiproject!

Hello, Iadmc! I saw you recently edited a page related to the Green party and green politics. There is a new WikiProject that has been formed - WikiProject Green Politics and I thought this might be something you'd be interested in joining! So please head on over to the project page and take a look! Thanks for your time. Me-123567-Me (talk) 18:44, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Iadmc, thanks for your input at Talk:Sailing faster than the wind#Awkward title. Based on your input, I have a new suggestion for you to consider. Cheers, User:HopsonRoad 18:58, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

New Brunswick New Democratic Party leadership election, 2017

You've misunderstood the article. Cardy resigned January 1, 2017 and the leadership election date to choose his successor hasn't been set. Please move the article back.McArthur Parkette (talk) 14:53, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

  • @McArthur Parkette: Ah! Sorry about that. I misread the lead to say the election was to be held Jan 1 2017. Because you've moved it again it's going to be complicated moving it back. You might need an admin... Sorry again. I'll do what I can to help as it's my screw up just don't edit the page(s)! — Iadmctalk  15:07, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
It's okay. It's just that it was the second time someone moved the page within a week so I'm afraid I got a bit annoyed. Canadian leadership elections are a bit weird and the timeline varies in a way that it doesn't seem to in other countries - sometimes they happen within months after a vacancy, sometimes they don't happen for years, and often it takes months for the party to decide on a timetable which is why leadership election articles tend to start of being called "Next X party leadership election" and then get renamed once a timeline is announced. McArthur Parkette (talk) 01:17, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
@McArthur Parkette: OK. Hope you can get it sorted. I'll leave all Canadian election articles to you and other competent editors working on such things from now on :) — Iadmctalk  12:43, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

A kitten for you! =

Thank you for expanding the Mehrsa Baradaran article! It looks great!

Dhfemreb (talk) 03:23, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

  • @Dhfemreb: Thanks! Mehrsa herself contacted me after I reverted her edits. I restored some of what she did and expanded with better sourcing. BLPs are a particular concern, IMO, and women in particular get a raw deal on WP... — Iadmctalk  19:58, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Composer templates

Thank you for your efforts to clean the composer templates' categories. I believe that every template with just the composer's name is a composer template even if - at least at the moment - it contains only works. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:39, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt: OK, thanks. I'll review my edits and restore as required. I felt that we didn't need to categorise as both Composer and Works by if only works are mentioned but I may be wrong... they may be expanded thinking about it. Feel free to add them back in but notice that I added the Works template in many cases so reversion might not be the correct method — Iadmctalk  20:43, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
I won't, have other things to do right now, just don't want to loose more from the composer cats where I want to see them ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:48, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough I'll add them back in composer-name-only templates — Iadmctalk  20:50, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt checkY done — Iadmctalk  21:18, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Better be careful Iadmc. Gerda is one of the nicest people around here. If there were Wikipedia saints, she would be one. So, if you want to have "fun" with a composer article, do what I do. Edit as an IP and do some small damage, then do a good edit as yourself. She sees on her watchlist that the article was edited by someone she trusts (fooled her) and doesn't see the vandalism.  :)   Bgwhite (talk) 07:32, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Better be careful, Bgwhite, because Iadmc and I agree, easy and simple. I made a new composer template, DYK? (Only to find out that all his early operas were written by users who prefer this to this. Not only duplicated information, also aesthetically not pleasing - with unaligned header and footer - and not accessible without finding and clicking the "show"-button - which is a problem for some physically impaired readers, - one of them said so, and I won't forget). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:48, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Gerda, I also hate the "show" in the infobox. Yours is better. If Graham or RexxS are the ones who said it has accessibility problems, you've got a case. They are the gold standard. I've got a crush on Iadmc. He helped me big time on fixing hundreds of ISBNs. Bgwhite (talk) 10:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
That's not an infobox, the one with the "show", - that's a side nabox. It was Moxy who said that he has the problem, in 2013, but some still think "collapsed" is a solution. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:54, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

..The collapsed option is disabled in mobile view and the app (for accessibility reason). Thus the majority 2/3 (and growing) of viewers see the box expanded. Or software developers understand accessibility concerns.--Moxy (talk) 12:36, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, Bgwhite, Moxy Better be careful: WP:COMPOSERS don't like infoboxes! ;) Thanks all for the info! Most helpful — Iadmctalk  16:43, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Tell us news, not that 2010 stuff ;) - Look at the [adjective avoided] discussion on Max Reger, for a start, or at Beethoven, where an infobox was added by community consensus, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:50, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt I knew you knew...! the other two might not though... — Iadmctalk  16:56, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Moxy was on my side from 2013, see Robert Stoepel discussion. I thought the topic was settled then ;) - Bgwhite tries to stay neutral. Good luck for that ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:27, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I see that Iadmc is a relatively new editor has anyone shown them WP:ADVICEPAGE - our guideline that mentions just this fact?? Each case should be handled on a case by case. - Moxy (talk) 18:43, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Look a little further, Jubileeclipman was here before I was (2008 to 2010) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:59, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Moxy: WP:ADVICEPAGE didn't appear to mention WP:COMPOSERS so I added a little to it. Also added WP:ADVICEPAGE to WP:COMPOSERS infobox advice — Iadmctalk  19:30, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I think you missed the point WP:ADVICEPAGE mentions that an advice page is just that an advice page (not binding in anyway) ....... it does mention infoboxes and the problem of projects advice pages in this regard. The page reflects our policies WP:Local consensus, WP:INFOBOXUSE and the ArbCom outcome. Basically a project does not own articles under its scope...they may have a preference but as per both policies and the ArbCom decision ...all need to tlak things out page by page...a project cant override our policies on how we deal with this topic. What was added to the guideline was the exact opposite of our rules.-- Moxy (talk) 20:16, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Moxy I added the fact that the Composers Project prefers not to have them but recognizes WP:Consensus. I think that's fine? Anyway, thanks for the reminder about that Guideline — Iadmctalk  20:35, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

And yes. I am Jubileeclipman reborn — Iadmctalk  19:31, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
How I wish GFHandel would also be reborn, among many others, but he was the most obvious victim of ibox discussion (Bach 2013, archived), if we don't count Dreadstar who can't be reborn! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:14, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Just catching up on all this. I'll have a look... — Iadmctalk  20:35, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
How about calling me just Gerda and less ping? I am with you ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Will do, Gerda, TPS ;) — Iadmctalk  20:46, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Whose Knowledge? News - February 2017

Thanks for all of your support for Whose Knowledge? so far! Get ready, we're going to need lots of your help in 2017 :)

What's new in 2017:

1. Volunteers needed

As Whose Knowledge? grows, there are lots of things to do! Can you help?

  • Are you good with data entry, categories, mailing lists or social media? We especially need people to help with organizing knowledge for Dalit History Month, and building out our communications (including this monthly newsletter!) right now!
  • If you're interested in volunteering for these or any other projects, please signup here

2. Pilot projects

Building partnerships and testing our approach with marginalized communities.

  • Dalit History Month: We're working with Equality Labs to support Dalit communities in South Asia and the United States to map knowledge and create Wikipedia content. Dalit History Month edit-a-thons are coming in April!
  • Women's Human Rights Defenders: In partnership with Urgent Action Fund, we'll be supporting a group of women's human rights defenders around the world with more mapping and wiki content creation. Themes and geographies coming soon!
  • Kumeyaay Wikipedia Initiative: Following the 2016 Indigenous People's Day edit-a-thon, we're continuing to work with members of the Kumeyaay tribe in Southern California and Baja to map and contribute indigenous knowledge to Wikimedia projects. A discussion day with Kumeyaay community in San Diego is being planned for May.

3. Funding

We've got financial support for 2017!

  • WMF grant: 6-month funding (February-July 2017) was approved to pilot our approach to mapping knowledge and creating Wikipedia content with the Dalit community and global women's human rights defenders. Thanks for all your endorsements!
  • Shuttleworth Fellowship: Anasuya is a Shuttleworth Fellow! This means we'll be able to spend more time organizing, and have support for convenings, campaign infrastructure, etc.

4. Wikimedia Strategy

Find us at Wikimedia Conference.

  • Anasuya and Siko will be carrying the Whose Knowledge? vision of diversity, pluralism and representation of marginalized communities into movement strategy conversations in Berlin March 2017.
  • What's your vision for the Wikimedia movement? If you have a perspective that you'd like us to help represent in Berlin, please reach out and let us know!

In solidarity,

Siko (talk) 01:54, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

contemporary classical music

Thank you for your care of contemporary classical music, for articles such as 21st-century classical music and Senza sangue, for precise categories and cleanup in the field, for "Nice! I am still none the wiser, but your page is looking nicer", - Iain, carer and musician, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:20, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt Thank You! I'm trying to sort out Medieval music at the moment. (Starting at the beginning and going forward to check categorization on all composers... wish me luck!) Many articles were badly or over-categorized. I may have created a few too many year categories but I'll sort that as I go! I'm also guessing that many are not categorized at all or at least not as Medieval or something equally helpful. I'll have to find them... — Iadmctalk  16:37, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I wish you luck, - see the results on my watchlist ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:41, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks... ;) — Iadmctalk  16:46, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
A year ago, you were recipient no. 1575 of Precious, a prize of QAI! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm sort of back, now... — Iadmctalk  23:24, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Three years now! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:55, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Reger

Please read my reply (and perhaps the article histories, and talk page discussions). This was not a merge, as I understand a merge. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:12, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
